I have been taking it for almost two months and starting to think that all the symptoms I am experiencing are from the Prilosec. After all GI test have come back normal and all the test from my regular physician have come back normal, I want to quit Prilosec. The first month I was taking one 20mg pill in the morning and one 20mg at night. Now I am only taking one 20mg pill a day. Do I quit cold turkey?
I take one Prilosec, 20-mg, a day with no pain. Prilosec OTC, is 10-mg, is a good start. Take two if you later think you need it.. If I take two Prilosec, 20-mg, I get dry-mouth, so I only need one for 24 hours. Judge whether a capsule or tablet suits you, then decide whether you think you do not need to see a doctor. If you later decide you do need a doctor's care, a procedure namesed Upper GI Series can be performed by a Gastroenterologist.
Hello, I'm 30 male. for the past 3 months i have been experiencing intermittent right sided chest pain. Sometimes I feel it in my right arm, sometimes it radiates in my back. I'm a registered nurse and I know a little about different conditions and symptoms, but this one confuses me. Respiratory wise I don't have any cough, SOB, fever, my lung sounds clear and I walk 5 miles 5-6 days a week. I don't have nausea, stools are normal.
While on prilosec i started getting some of the rare side effects such as kidney and testicular pain. So i stopped using prilosec. Then I started noticing I had some abdominal pain I would say my intestine area. A mild burning that would come and go. I also had some burning in my stomach aswell.
Well one night it felt like my stomach exploded so i went to the ER. Then took xrays and blood test and found nothing and told me to see my doctor in 3 days if i still had some pain. So i did.
pylori and now developed GERD and Acid Reflux because of the long term use of prilosec.. I cannot stop taking the prilosec because the acid and chest pain come back times a million, and i cant eat really anything anymore.. I did not have any problems with acid or chest pains or not being able to eat until i started taking the prilosec.. I really think that if i wasnt having any symptoms then why give someone some for symptoms there not having, just to make them worse in the end..
Doctor reccomended Prilosec OTC. She was still leaning toward gallbladder. Day after started taking Prilosec, pain was the worst it had been at that point. Note, to mitigate the pain, i was taking Ibruprofen. Realizing that if it was an ulcer, I stopped taking the Ibruprofen. Prilosec seemed to help after that.
Felt as if improving. Had HIDA done. Normal results. Day I got the results (before I got them, just to rule out my brain turning against me), started feeling worse.
I am a 50 year old woman with pain/pressure in the upper stomach (at the very top of the stomach area) and also pain/pressure between my shoulder blades. My Dr started me on a type of prilosec saying it was most likely acid reflux. I've been on this for a few weeks with no relief. I also get no relief from rolaids, tums etc... The pain/pressure is worse after I eat (it doesn't matter what I eat or how little I eat, always the same).
The Pepsid was prescribed as 40 mg once a day and so is the Prilosec. It is day 2 and he is still having a lot of pain but now it is going into his back. He took 1 prilosec yesterday afternoon, 1 this morning and 1 just before bed tonight (it said you could take up to 2 if you had to). I did some research on Prilosec and it said that it could take up to a month to start feeling benefits from it. I was thinking that maybe his esophagus is burned from the acid so it may take a while to heal.
now they say I go next Tuesday afternoon. Notice the Prilosec does take the edge off the upper back pain. But still have the pain under the ribs and stabbing shoulder blades, Nausea with pain and lots of dizziness. Gallbladder Ejection came back 74%..had two ultrasounds (one showed vague hypochoeic head of pancreas and Ct ab/pel with and without contrast only thing showed was large pancreas. Hoping Gastro dr. tests for Celiac while he is in there.
Aleve works great for back pain and many types of pain. But, be careful it is horrible on the stomach. If you have any ulcers or have problems getting uclers easy - be sure to talk to a doctor first. When my sciatica was so bad my doctor gave me prescription strength naproxin (which is Aleve) and because of how hard it is on the stomach gave me Aciphex with it (similar to Prilosec). Good luck!
I have experienced severe back pain that begins in my middle back and wraps around my rib cage and into my chest. I feel it first coming on in my middle back and then wrap forward along my ribs into the middle of my chest. I become nauseated and feel dizzy and short of breath. Laying down seems to make it worse but I feel too dizzy to stand and when I stand I become more nauseated. I do not vomit but feel as though I will. I become hot and sweaty and my head feels like it is spinning.
They sent me home with prescriptions for nausea and pain and told me to stay on 40 mgs of Prilosec. I am nauseous all the time and if I try to eat it's even worse. I eat a very healthy diet. No meat, dairy, bread products, fatty foods. I had a banana with a little plain rice last night and about a half hour later I was sick and in pain.I'm eliminating more and more foods because I can't really eat and it's not helping.
When I would forget to take it, the pain would come back later that same day. Now, that pain has come back, even while taking Prilosec. No heartburn. Just a sharp pain that sometimes will wake me up in the middle of the night and last for what seems a very long time. If you have any idea what I have, if it is Acid Reflux, or any advice on what I could do please let me know. This is an uncomfortable pain that I'm nervous could get worse.
Hope hepatitis has been ruled out, this can cause pain. Prilosec is unlikely to cause the pain. A HIDA scan can help to study the functioning of the gallbladder. The other causes for the pain could be infections of the bowel, prolapsed intervertebral disc or inflammatory diseases of the colon. Discuss these options with your doctor when you happen to meet him next time.

I was diagnosed with H Pylori back in 2003. I took the antibiotics and the pain cleared up. After that, my doctor put me on Nexium. Unfortunately, insurance wouldn't cover it so I switched to Prilosec. It seemed to do the trick so my doctor just told me to continue with it. Last year, he sent me for an upper endo to check to see if all was ok. Everything checked out good.
Seemingly unrelated, back in 2006, I had my first panic attack. I couldn't pinpoint what caused it.
I have had moderate to severe acid reflux and burning stomach pain for about two years now and have been on a steady regimen of morning Prilosec for about a year and a half. A couple of times, I have tried to stop taking the Prilosec, but both times, the problem quickly worsened, and I had to start again.
I (and a friend) got food poisoning over a week ago and I had a night of fairly violent vomiting (5-6 times). I noticed the next day that my stomach wasn't burning like usual.
Please read my response and try the temp relief procedure I gave "worrywart63" Prilosec OTC, and Gasx, if you have H-Pylori bacteria, this will cause pain at the top of the stomach and chest, this pain is worse when bending over due to excessive acid flowing up into the esophagus and burning tissue, the prilosec will supress the bacteria, although it may show up negative on tests performed to see if it is present, so it is your call, but I had the same thing, and the prilosec after th
Is it okay to take Prilosec? They said Zantac was okay, but not to take Prevacid. I bought Prilosec and want your opinions on it.
