Prilosec and vitamin b12 deficiency

Common Questions and Answers about Prilosec and vitamin b12 deficiency

prilosec

Avatar n tn My doctor diagnosed me almost a year ago with "the worst case of acid reflux [she'd] ever seen." Literally, I would drink a glass of water and get reflux issues. I was put on Nexium for a long time, and I have since switched to Prilosec OTC because I ran out of health insurance. It's been about five days on Prilosec but I keep feeling nauseous in the morning after I take it, but it's nothing too bad and it goes away fairly quickly.
Avatar n tn Your neurologist needs to rule out other metabolic causes like diabetes mellitus, shingles or post herpetic neuralgia, vitamin B12 or folate deficiency, alcohol, antibiotics like metronidazole. Certain autoimmune diseases need to be looked into as a cause for peripheral neuropathy and hence the symptoms like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis or Guillain Barre syndrome. A morton’s neuroma is a growth arising in the nerve cells.
Avatar f tn Is it common for those with ms to have abnormally low levels of vitamin b12? I read that a vitamin b12 deficiency could mimic symptoms of ms but that doesn't explain remissions. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Before four years I was severe Vit. D and Vit. B12 deficiency. Just two months before I have done root canal. From that I have severe back pain, sometimes burning sensation on backside, headache, feeling weakness, dipressed mood, not concentrating on work, anxiety. I have done blood test. My vit. D is 60ng/ml, vit. B12 680pg/ml. My CBC, HB, LFT, KFT, cholesterol is normal. Orthopedic Dr prescribed 4 tab. of vit D suggest to take one table after three weeks. I have also consulted to Neurologist.
Avatar f tn Recent blood test shows vit. D 111 ng/ml and Vit B12 is 1074 pg/ml (ref. Range 211-911). May I have elevated vit. D and Vit B12. How to bring to normal level.
Avatar f tn Would love and value an opinion about this situation and I also need to know how much B12, in this form, I should be taking. Labs indicated B 12 was very low- 289 (193-986)ref range.
Avatar f tn I seriously think what happened was because of prilosec and long term history of B12 deficiency. Do you think my deficiency has something to do with my spiked EEG?
1932415 tn?1325918449 Out of these deficiency states vitamin B12 and magnesium are suspect. Vitamin B12 is needed to maintain the myelin sheath to protect the nerves and magnesium is needed for proper nerve transmission. Based on your symptoms, i would lean towards magnesium deficiency (stress is also a major cause of magnesium deficiency).
620877 tn?1282764097 I would think the low B12 and D3 would cause fatigue. The B12 deficiency could also cause the memory and concentration problems. The hip pain could be from the D3 deficiency. But everythng else points to somethng going wrong. I would go on at least 5,000 units a day of D3 for two weeks to try and boost the level. That is conservative since I am on the forum and am not a practitioner. I personally take 15,000 to 20,000 units a day to build up my level.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know what causes severe B12 deficiency and vitamin d deficiency? I am starting 50,000 IU tomorrow (twice a week) and I will start the B 12 shots (twice a week) for probably the rest of my life. I have been really sick and have some other symptoms that I have had a lot of trouble addressing. i have an unexplained fever and Blood Pressure that goes really high(180/120) and then drops really low (90/50).
Avatar f tn Vitamin B12 deficiency is almost always due to malabsorption issues. A common problem is not enough stomach acid (many conditions lower stomach acid from aging to hypothyroidism to taking acid blockers like nexium). Excerpt from B12 awareness: "What are the Causes of B12 Deficiency?
2026744 tn?1527706727 You have vitamin D and vitamin B12 deficiency. Your lab reference ranges are too low for both vitamin D and vitamin B12. TSH range too high. I posted info below on where you need to be for good health Vitamin B12 testing is either in ng/L (pg/mL) or pmol/L.
Avatar m tn You have a vitamin B12 deficiency, and your neurologist seriously needs continuing education courses in cobalamin deficiency. Elevated MMA and Hcy also indicate B12 deficiency. A serum B12 of 300 is in the low-normal range, but this is because the "normal" range for serum B12 is too low. You are symptomatic and need treatment. The book, "Could It Be B12? An Epidemic of Misdiagnoses," Quill Driver Books---will educate you and your doctor(s).
1891423 tn?1321127637 Bruising is definitely not a vitamin D deficiency symptom. Easy bruising is most commonly due to anaemia (iron, vitamin B12, folate). Deficiency wise, magnesium would be the number one cause of constipation. Calcium contracts the muscles and magnesium relaxes the muscles. Magnesium is also the most important co factor for vitamin D absorption. Lowering stomach acid will worsen any deficiency state as you need stomach acid to absorb nutrients.
Avatar n tn Then I went for a Vitamin B12 test and diagnosed with 59 points of Vitamin B12. Then started B12 injections and using them from last 2 months. Now when I retested them, everything is looking good (D3: - 43, B12: - >1400, Thyroid: - Normal range). Still I am facing same weakness and fatigue. Tingling sensation in hands and legs. I did a research and found that, persons who are using acid suppressing tablets from long time will obviously have B12 defficiency.
Avatar f tn well as far as I know your shots and B12 intake will stop the progres of degradation. Anemia and neuropathy in B12 deficiency dont come both everytime. Im glad you dont have anemia. And about the vit D and relation to neurpathy I can say much, sorry.
Avatar m tn Been a while, while would just like to know could hep c or the treatment of hep c cause the vitamin B12 deficiency. I have been on folate tabs and vitamin B12 injections for approximatly 12 months now with no explanation given apart from my body has stopped making Intrinsic factor. just a side line my treatment was put off in august, due to start this wedenesday.
Avatar f tn the other says that if my body is not absorbing B12, taking a vitamin will not help and I will require B12 injections. Is this a common deficiency for women?
Avatar m tn Hello~Yes, having a B12 deficiency can cause a lot of the symptoms you mentioned. I have had B12 shots, and the results were amazing, I felt full of energy, and my depression lifted as well. B12 is a very important vitamin, but, I would like to add that it should be taken in conjunction wit Folic acid and the other B vitamins, they all work synergistically, and it is best to have the entire "team" working together.
Avatar f tn There are some tests which can pick up Vitamin B12 deficieny before actually the anemia develops. Diagnosis of vitamin B12 deficiency is typically based on measurement of serum vitamin B12 levels; however, about 50 percent of patients with subclinical disease have normal B12 levels. A more sensitive method of screening for vitamin B12 deficiency is measurement of serum methylmalonic acid and homocysteine levels, which are increased early in vitamin B12 deficiency.
