Common Questions and Answers about Prilosec and thyroid medication

prilosec

1026267 tn?1257591273 Just coincidentally with my Prilosec change, I switched to Armour thyroid, in order to get my FT3 levels up and eliminate my lingering hypo symptoms. In a day and a half my acid reflux was gone. After doing some reading about hypothyroidism and its effect on acid reflux, I was very curious to know whether the improvement was due to the added Prilosec, or the effect of the T3 on my hypo condition. So I went back to once a day for Prilosec, and still had no acid reflux problem.
519725 tn?1211997846 On that same day I switched to Armour thyroid (T4 and T3). Interestingly, the next day or so, the acid reflux problem was gone. I cut back on the Prilosec and the problem did not return. I have done some reading on this and found that acid reflux problems are a regular companion of hypo t.
Avatar f tn I suggested he try Prilosec, and all this went away, as did his prescription medication. Give it a try, it worked wonders for him. Google the medication you're on for side effects, or call your pharmacist to determine if this is having any affect on it.
Avatar n tn I have other symptoms that have lead me to consider and try a true gluten free diet. I am 4 days off Prilosec and day 4 of no grains and I'm feeling quite a bit better. Good luck to you as you continue to pursue your health.
2136621 tn?1355121987 Yes, a good positive attitude. Oh, and yes, losec is prilosec. I hope it works well and she feels SO much better!!
Avatar n tn You need an ultrasound of your thyroid and a thyroid blood panel. That will detect any abnormalities. I'm afraid there's no way to know for sure by your symptoms. The sensation in your throat is commonly reported by thyroid patients, but I'm not sure about your stomach upset. Especially with your history of thyroid irregularities, your doctor should run these basic tests.
Avatar n tn t see any cause for concern in terms of thyroid cancer or any other type of growth on the thyroid. He suspected the problem was acid reflux and told me to take Prilosec for 14 days, but also referred me for a TSH test because I'd gained some weight recently (although it was explainable due to a lifestyle change from a job where I walked to work to driving every day) and my grandmother had been treated for an underactive thyroid.
1295419 tn?1276822872 Hi! I was diagnosed with GERD about a month ago as evidenced by an Upper GI. I have never had any symptoms of GERD, such as hearburn, etc. My doctor said there is no need to put me on medication because there are no symptoms to treat for me and prolonged use of PPI's may have consequences. She said just to take 2 Tums before bed time since the acid can erode my esophagus and rises more when you are lying down. I am nervous that it is going to do damage?
Avatar n tn If she has a goiter, she should be on thyroid medication, a goiter is an inflammation of the thyroid, and I have Hashimoto's and have stomach issues, bloating or too much air, it is not abnormal for the stomach to make a little noise, however the excess air can create pain, I have been going through it for two years now, and don't ask me what it is about Hashi's that cause it, because I don't have the answer, I have been through 2 Endoscopy's 1 Endoscopal Ultrasound, 1 Abdomi
1605619 tn?1301631851 I take prilosec every day and my doctor says its fine. I would get off the zyrtec D and start the 24 hour zyrtec liquigels. You only take it once a day. You don't need the decongestant in the zyrtec D. You may be stuffy for a few days until you ween yourself off the decongestant but you will be okay. If you have that much diarrhea try taking some iron pills. I take 324 mg b/c of low iron. It makes you go a couple of times a day and regulates you and your stool.
9584608 tn?1413678892 Does anybody know if you can take any heartburn medication, besides tums, while pregnant. I think what I'm thinking of is called prilosec or something.
222011 tn?1265472048 t you post your thyroid test results and reference ranges and let members evaluate and respond. You could still be hypo, in spite of taking the 100 mg. ofThyroxine.
Avatar f tn I have heartburn I am constantly burping and I feel like my stomach is burning and it makes really strange sounds. Has this ever happened to anyone??? I'm just woried it might be stomach cancer or something!!! Please help. Thanks.
2107861 tn?1346470646 If anyone has ever used these patches please reply with your pros and cons and any other info you may have. Also I have a 8 year old daughter and and a 2 year old chihuahua I worry about it falling off and them touching it!!!!
1744042 tn?1311261168 Yes, GERD and thyroid disorders are related. Many of us who have thyroid issues have or had GERD or acid reflux. I was on Aciphex, which is one of the stronger acid reducers and at times, that didn't even touch the reflux; my insurance quit paying for Aciphex and I was forced to go to omerprozole; I'd have to take 3-4 times the recommended dosage before it made any difference at all.
Avatar f tn This may be contributing to your increased breathing problems at night. Zantac and Prilosec might take a little time to work, and if the Symbicort is causing an increase in your stomach acid, it could be harder to control the GERD at night. If you feel this is the case, talk to your doctor.
Avatar f tn He has run a complete workup on me everytime I go and all of my numbers are within normal range. And he's a thyroid specialist at the Diabetes and Thyroid Institute of Fort Worth. He's been on TV! And he's been great.....until now. I always make a point of asking him about my Free T3 and Free T4 and everytime I look at the labs they are normal.
Avatar f tn No, zantac 75 is the only heartburn medication on my safe list...that and tums!
Avatar n tn Prilosec is a good product for Acid Reflux, but don't take Nexium with it, just one or the other, also there are many foods that cause AR, deep fried foods, Coffee and or Drinks that contain Caffein. So no one has even bothered to check your thyroid?
822804 tn?1298226302 Just to clarify, she stated if its OK to take synthetic thyroid and a PPI at 7 AM, the same time. What you do works, because it is not at the same time. You take thyroid first several hours before the PPI, like you said is most likely enough time between. A PPI at the same time as swallowed thyroid med will result in inadequate absorbing of the thyroid med. This is also mentioned on the info sheet under 'acid reducers'.
Avatar f tn t eat sometimes. The doctor had mentioned Prilosec and another medication as being ok to take, but I forget the other one. Anyways, I went to the store to get the Prilosec and the only thing they have for Prilosec is a 14 day treatment which may not work for 1-4 days. I want something with immediate relief and wondered if the anyone took the other ones like Zantac or whatever else is out there. Tums does NOT work for me. Any input as to what your doctor said was ok, please let me know.
Avatar f tn I have become very concerned about the amount of excederine, prilosec, nasal spray, aleve, and other antacid medicines that she takes. She has a history of bleeding ulcers, she smokes about 2 packs of cigarettes a week, high blood pressure, and other ailments of old age. I didn't realize that she was taking so much of this medicine. Especially the excedrine and prilosec. I have not been able to accurately assess how much excedrine she takes because I think she buys it on the sly.
Avatar f tn Hello, Chronic sinusitis or chronic allergic rhinitis can lead to the saliva changes making them sticky and thick and hence dry mouth and tongue. A CTscan of the sinuses may help with the diagnosis. If chronic sinusitis is diagnosed, a course of oral antibiotics or steroids can be considered. Are you taking some medicines like diuretics, antihistamines, antidepressants and muscle relaxants? They can also cause dry throat and mouth.
Avatar f tn Based on the first test results you posted, your TSH was 2.3, FT4 was .91, and FT3 ws 2.76. I assume you were not tested for thyroid antibodies with that TSH, so the doctor started you on thyroid med, apparently because of the symptoms you were having, and at a dose that apparently did very little for you. Your current lab results were a TSH of 1.23, Free T4 of .97, and FT3 of 3.
Avatar m tn I was first diagnosed with hyperthyroidism back in May 2004. I had a couple small nodules on one lobe of my thyroid. I was started on PTU (can't spell the full name LOL!) and responded very well to it. After a few months, the nodules had disappeared and my thyroid levels stabilized. In July of 2008 I was started on Amiodarone for my atrial fibrillation. Amiodarone has an iodine content to it and seems to have caused my thyroid levels to go up again.
