While u r having the flare up do try to avoid the spicy foods, and greasy foodsm carbonated bevs and caffeine....like coffee to aid the meds, BTW Prilosec can take a few weeks to see results not a few days, and u do have to modify ur diet in order for the meds to be the most effective.
Stress can also trigger these flare ups so if u worry about a friend or what something may be or not be that can add to how u feel...
Ibuprofen and such tends to give me stomach pain and I've been On ibuprofen for years. Heat helps but just for the 30 sex or so the heat is applied. Other than that nothing.
put me on prilosec for gastritis and possible ulcers. I also get very bad cramps, that feel like labor Ugh!. I would normally take naproxen for the cramps but since my stomach is.not well... They are very harsh on the stomach lining and was told not to take them. I called the pharmacist and he told me to take tylenol. I had to take quite a lot for 2 days. I would try the prilosec or something over the counter and see if it helps. Prilosec, zantac, pepcid.
I have had 2 black stools. I have also had abdominal pain. For about 3-4 days I took Ibuprofen for pain relief after temporary crowns were put on 2 teeth. I am Epileptic & take Lamictal & Keppra.
Also, I have been very "gassy" feeling & constipated. Once I have a bowel movement the feeling goes away. Should I see a doctor? How soon & what type? I don't have a primary care physician per se.
I am leaving town tomorrow.
HII or histimine inhibitors do not stop acid from being produced only slows it down.....I was on prilosec on and off for yrs and it stopped working for me...so I am on a HII pepcid...which is available OTC...mine is rx strenght....but I am sure u can try it.
The other important issues r that u change ur diet and lifestyle along with the meds....meds alone can not help u feel better if u continue to eat foods that cause excess acid to be produced.
s very little chance of recieving a persciption for the better medications ( I feel that the Nexium worked better than Prilosec, and that Aciphex worked better than both). the greasy, acidic, and overall bad for you foods must be cut out. these foods with irritate existing conditions and/or create new ones if it's GERD or gastritis.

re dealing with I know its been years but if you didnt get help yet pleeeze get off the acid blocking meds do some research on the side effects also in a lot of forums the side effects last for months once you are off but theres hope Im suffering from extreme aniety which i never had in my life till dr put me on omeprazole to protect my stomach from ibuprofen i got gastritis anyhow and now even 36 days off of omeprazole im still suffering from the aniety i believe in God and i believe He will h
I have had a tooth abscess twice..same problem each time and have only used ibuprofen for pain relief and it works as well as any opiate.Just take prilosec to help the stomach and don't go over 2400mg/24 hrs.
I mean to go to the dentist but each time after 3 or 4 days the abscess breaks and everything gets better.
I know I have to go sometime.
Ok... I am 41 and have had this stabbing pain under my left rib cage accompanied by burping, mostly at night for about 11 years now. The first time it happened it woke me out of a dead sleep and I thought I was having a heart attack. I went to the emergancy room and they said I had pleurisy. So months would go by and then I'd have another attack and this went on for years until I after taking some ibuprofen I got really bad heartburn.
I agree with the ibuprofen/Advil. But that can also bother your stomach. Taking over-the-counter Prilosec can help with that while you're taking the meds sort of constantly. Also, eating will help a little. Taking oxycodone or other meds can make you feel sick initially but can sometimes go away but taking it with food can make a big difference. Feel better.
I've had occassional PVC's for 20 plus years. I also have Mitral Valve Prolaps. About 2 months ago I started taking Prilosec for reflux. I then began to have a huge increase in the number of PVC's. Sometimes lasting all day. I've been on an event monitor for the past 2 weeks. I didn't even think that to relate this increase in PVC's to the Prilosec until about a week ago.
ve had 3 docs prescribe prevacid and prilosec and one who said its bad to have any. I miscarried when I wasnt on anything and the babies I've had are all fine despite the prilosec. Some docs are more cautious. My doc now is a high risk ob/gyn with experience in fetal development issues and he says its fine. Talk to your doc or a different one...its not good to be so miserable you can't eat...for you or baby.
I have been having some GI issues for almost 2 months now and was first diagnosed with Gastritis. For the Gastritis I was given 15 days worth of Prilosec. While on the Prilosec (and before) I had diarrhea and loose stools every day. Being as I was having that before, I never attributed it to the Prilosec but now I'm questioning whether or not the Prilosec contributed to the loose bowel movements as I am now back on Prilosec and am having loose stools once again.
Ibuprofen tore my stomach up pretty bad and now I take prescription Prilosec for it. I've got chronic pain and find the ibuprofen works better than Tylenol for the pain and inflammation. But it is really hard on your stomach. It took me a long time to feel better, even with tapering. Hope this is just a bad day and you feel better tomorrow. (I think menopause wreaks havoc on your body, too.

if you are past 12 weeks you can take sparingly of the following,
For nasal congestion: Sudafed, Chlortimentron, Tavist, Benadryl. Also try saline nasal spray or clariton otc.
For headache & or fever: Tylenol, Tylenol extra strength- NO ASPRIN OR IBUPROFEN
Go in for a fever over 101.
My doctor diagnosed me almost a year ago with "the worst case of acid reflux [she'd] ever seen." Literally, I would drink a glass of water and get reflux issues. I was put on Nexium for a long time, and I have since switched to Prilosec OTC because I ran out of health insurance. It's been about five days on Prilosec but I keep feeling nauseous in the morning after I take it, but it's nothing too bad and it goes away fairly quickly.
