Prilosec active ingredient

Common Questions and Answers about Prilosec active ingredient

prilosec

Avatar m tn My main question is Is their an Ingredient difference between Prilosec, and omeprozal.
Avatar f tn Is it okay to take Prilosec? They said Zantac was okay, but not to take Prevacid. I bought Prilosec and want your opinions on it.
Avatar f tn Yes there are daily acid reducers you can take that will help. I take one daily, sometimes twice when needed. My doctor told me what active ingredient was ok to take and I got the generic version because those pills can be costy.
593603 tn?1229378162 the only i could find online, says to let your dr know you have/are taking it....the key ingredient, ranitidine, can be passed through breastmilk..... most dr's give you a list of "approved OTC meds", and most of them show what can be taken at different stages of pregnancy.....idk if prilosec has been "ok'd", HOWEVER i do know that for normal people, it can cause huge stomach issues, so def stay away from that!!!!!
Avatar f tn There isn't a pedi GI but there is an adult one you can try to ask. Laryngospasms are very important I've been told in case of emergency if the esophogus is smaler in size than avg. ones. This is what the medic alert people told me when my daughter had her medic bracelet made for her bee sting allergy. By the way, she is 15 and not had another episode since the reflux is gone!
572651 tn?1530999357 Lu - A quote from the same article you cite here: "But they also pointed out that Fumaderm, as well as a compounded product known as Psorinovo -- involved in one of the NEJM reports -- contained other active ingredients, and the patients had additional "significant confounding factors" as well" "One patient in the Netherlands and another in Germany developed PML after several years of treatment with European formulations of the drug, long available as psoriasis treatme
6712392 tn?1393708678 it depends on what the active ingredient is. Anything from the retinoid (its a type of active ingredient) family is a huge no-no!
Avatar n tn Besides the cost, is their truly a difference between Nexim and Prilosec. The active components in Nexium are esomprazole magnesium and in Prilosec are Omeprazole Magnesium. Also, Nexium comes in 20 mg and 40 mg capsules and Prilosec is sold over the counter in 20 mg tablets. My GI switched me to Nexium because Aciphex gave me terrible side effects and Protonix made my water brash symptoms ever worse. I have tried Prilosec in the past and it didn't have much of an effect for me.
Avatar f tn OTC throat lozenges that do NOT have menthol as an ingredient. Also try guaragling salt water. Headaches: tylenol, hot or cold compress. Occasional caffeine also helps with migraines. Sinus Infection: Must go into your office to be treated Flu: increase liquids, more rest. tylenol for aches, fever, and headaches. If flu lasts longer than 2 days call your dr office, if fever is above 101 degrees go in to be treated. Diarrhea: Imodium anti-diarrheal medication after first trimester.
Avatar f tn With my first TUMS worked during the first trimester however by the 3rd trimester if I ate past 5pm I would either cough so bad it would make me throw up or I would wake up chocking on stomach acid I spit up and inhaled...only thing that worked was Prilosec but they said I could only take it for 2 weeks...this pregnancy I've been on Prilosec since the beginning and NO heartburn unless I forget to take the medicine for a few days...it has been awesome!
Avatar n tn Imodium WILL get rid of the withdrawal symptoms. Its active ingredient Loperamide is an opiate derivitive of Meperidine(Demerol) that binds to opiate receptors in your intestines, but will not cross the Blood Brain Barrier and get you high. If u include another med about a half hour before ur lope dose, in theory it should allow more lope to cross the BBB (it already does in high doses, but crosses more readily with certain meds, and substances).
Avatar f tn This is very strange and maybe just a fluke but tonight I took a Prilosec otc and within about an hour my IC symptoms had subsided and are still gone now 4 hrs later......could there really be a connection????
Avatar n tn There are products being sold that often contain a fraction of the active ingredient or they use a lot of filler in place of the active ingredient, which has no medicinal value at all.
Avatar f tn Scary stuff to be putting in your body.Mothballs are nearly 100% active ingredient, and the active ingredient may be either naphthalene or paradichlorobenzene. Naphthalene is an aromatic hydrocarbon found in coal car or crude oil. Most products containing naphthalene in the U.S. are used to control clothes moths in airtight containers. Paradichlorobenzene is a chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbon. It is a fumigant insecticide and repellent.
1026926 tn?1292113815 You can actually take any over the counter med that has that as the ONLY active ingredient. They say musinex (plain one) has this in pill form too. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Until two days ago, I had been taking Prilosec OTC, 40 mgs. daily. I'm now taking the generic Omeprazole capsules, prescription. I switched to the generic version because it's covered by my insurance and it's a lot cheaper. I was told both meds were the same. However, after taking the generic Omep. capsules, I got bad side effects. I've never had any side effects from the Prilosec OTC. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a significant difference in the two.
177337 tn?1310059899 I thought I remembered reading something about 80+% of the active ingredient being eliminated by the body within 24 hours. If you've been taking it awhile, I would imagine it would take 2-3 days for it to completely clear your system.
Avatar f tn it says the active ingredient is Guiafensen 400mg
877337 tn?1249844450 I was told by a nurse when I was in the hospital that Baking Soda is the same ingredient as the expensive pill prilosec. I did check it out on the Internet and found much info to support her claims. The Baking Soda box actually has the instructions on how to use for such conditions. Check it out!
Avatar f tn Also to add, with the pills, each is a different active ingredient. I started with Zantac, went to Prilosec, and finally ended up with Prevacid. I gave Prevacid a good 3 weeks to kick in so I didnt have to go to a GI doc and the symptoms finally started to subside enough that they werent interfering with my life. They all treat the same disorder, but do so differently so it may be a matter of finding which one works well with your body.
212161 tn?1599427282 hey thank you for your time. i take prilosec everyday cant go with out it i have reflux really bad is the a bad thing for my stomack will it cause problems down the road been on it for at least 2-3 years do come off of it now and than take zanta for a week but it not as good.
Avatar f tn I have been having some GI issues for almost 2 months now and was first diagnosed with Gastritis. For the Gastritis I was given 15 days worth of Prilosec. While on the Prilosec (and before) I had diarrhea and loose stools every day. Being as I was having that before, I never attributed it to the Prilosec but now I'm questioning whether or not the Prilosec contributed to the loose bowel movements as I am now back on Prilosec and am having loose stools once again.
Avatar f tn They do not list it as an active ingredient, but they do contain aluminum as per the Glaxo smith Klein web page. Also, ingesting heavy metals is a lot different than wearing them topically. Just look at gluten allergies. Most with celiacs can wear lotions and such with gluten as long as it doesn't come into contact with their lips. I am looking for a non drug remedy.
Avatar m tn I thought it was over active stomach acid because the prilosec seems to diminish most of the symptoms most of the time. But I want to know what else I should be looking at or for. Is this occuring in people as well? Has anyone else had this issue? I have to go on walks sometimes at 2 am to relieve my self with burping and movement. Its the only thing that helps it seems. I take metamucile now and extra fiber type things. I drink enough water.
