502526 tn?1248887426 I had to take antibiotics just a couple of weeks ago for BV. My midwife told me to take a pro-biotic while taking the anti-biotics because you want to replenish your body with the good bacteria that should be there. I am now going through a very very slight yeast infection (my first ever) It will be fine to take a pro-biotic, it's just like eating yogurt, only you don't have to eat the yogurt. Of course, you should always mention it to your doc.

1168718 tn?1464983535 I usually get a yeast infection after a round of antibiotics because antibiotics tend to kill good bacteria as well as bad. That can be one culprit. Other culprits can be hormones, diabetes, the use of prednisone, the over use of douches..just to name a few. Excessive dryness down in the nether regions can cause problems as well. Avatar f tn Each time that I have been treated with antibiotics, I have ended up with yeast infections of the penis/glans/foreskin, bowel and oral trush. Yeast can be very difficult to get under control. In a case of yeast in the genitals, over the counter products like Monistat and canesten work well and you will begin to notice a difference after about one week. For the bowel, you need to eat a lot of yhogurt, as well as acidohilis. You might even need to get prescription from a doctor.

Eating plain yogurt (no fruity types) will help prevent yeast infections.

351724 tn?1267537018 Hi, I have had numerous occasions where I had to use antibiotics due to kidney infections. The antibiotics caused yeast infections. It is sort of like a circle. Treat the infections then deal with the yeast infections. It is best to use Canesten or Monistat at the same time while using antibiotics to treat infections.
