Avatar f tn UTIs and kidney stones share many of the same symptoms.MSK is suspected in patients with repeated UTIs or kidney stones. An x ray called an intravenous pyelogram can help confirm the diagnosis. No treatment can get rid of cysts in the affected kidneys. In a person who has MSK, treatment mainly focuses on curing existing infection, removing any stones if present and preventing future urine infection and stone formation. Dietary changes and adequate intake of fluids may be helpful.

Avatar n tn the only thing you can really do to help with preventing seeing me again for more kidney stones is to keep drinking lots of water. Even then, if you're prone to get them you will, but hopefully with the amount of water you're drinking and the Flomax helping too, you'll pass more of the stones you form and pass them more easily too".
Avatar f tn I'm 11 weeks today. My OB has been informed every step of the way as far as how they were treating my pain. I've had several ultrasounds over the last few weeks (due to the kidney stones not the pregnancy) and they have checked the baby. I'm measuring accurate and there is a heart beat. They don't seem to have concerns at this point.
Avatar f tn So I have been in and out of the hospital since Christmas with kidney stones on both sides, I am 31w+1d. First my option was to monitor it and hopefully they pass on their own, no luck so far an now my white blood count is high so they want to do surgery to put in to stents the drain the kidneys preventing inflammation an pain . The only thing is I will have to have them until the baby is born an then they will deal with the stones.
Avatar f tn i am used to the pain and can deal with it, what scares me is the kidney pain. normally i dont get kidney pain with the stones. i had to have only one stone removed surgically, it was stuck in the lining of my urethra, total pain on that episode before and after! Does anyone have any knowledge on preventing calcium oxalate stones that i havent tried already? i cant take diuretics because of a sulfa allergy, the potassium citrate does nothing, and i have slowed down on tea and cheese.
Avatar n tn These agents aren't known to cause kidney stones. Most kidney stones in the US are caused by our diet which is rich in meat protein. Calcium supplementation does increase the risk of kidney stones. As far as the blood pressure goes, he should probably have his dose of the lisinopril reduced. Alternatively, there are other agents such as calcium channel blockers, beta blockers or Angiotensine receptor blockers that can also be tried. I would probably avoid diuretics at this point.
Avatar f tn I don't have gallstones but I do have kidney stones lol. One in each kidney and the bigger I get the more they hurt!!!!

Try increasing dietary fiber, and include 10,000 units of vitamin A, 300 milligrams of magnesium citrate, and 100 milligrams of vitamin B6 every day.
Avatar f tn How many here have dealt with kidney stones during pregnancy? I am 18 wks 5 days and have a stone that needs to pass. Hurts excessively. I had a stone with my last pregnancy at 34 wks. That time required surgery to remove. If this is not gone by Monday I may be headed that way again.

Avatar f tn Also, do not take calcium carbonate mineral pills since it could contribute to kidney stones because kidney stones are actually pellets of calcium carbonate !! Only drink water which already has dissolved calcium carbonate in it.
1661837 tn?1302713820 Hello, in your case the nephrolithiasis ( stones in kidney) are responsible for causing the pain, blood in urine and difficulty in urine. I’ll suggest consulting a urologist for the same and seeking treatment depending on the size of the stone. If the size of the stone is small, it’s usually treated with ESWL in which shock waves are given from outside and stone breaks into small pieces. On the other hand, if the stone is quite big, then the surgical removal of the stone is a better option.
1736524 tn?1310745311 After a CAT scan, they said I had a 5mm stone and it was stuck in the ureter (the tube that goes between the kidney and the bladder) at the junction of the bladder wall. This is the narrowest part of the ureter, as I was advised. After 6 hours of IV heavy duty anti-inflammatory drugs, the stone must have passed into my bladder and the pain subsided greatly. I must have urinated a gallon at that point.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had kidney stones during your pregnancy and what did the pain feel like. I went to the hospital earlier and was sent home and told I was just experiencing round lig pain but I'm a bit skeptical of that verdict because it lasted for hours and the pain was so intense. I didn't test positive for a uti either but idk what to think. I dont have bloody urine but i swear i peed out something resembling a small pebble earlier too.
