Common Questions and Answers about Prevacid vs zantac for infants

prevacid

1448936 tn?1363206346 I've raised my head at night. I haven't tried prevacid or prilosec. My doc prescribed me zantac in august so I've continued using it. I may try one of those to see if I get any relief because the zantac really isn't working.

Avatar m tn She was prescribed Prevacid three weeks ago as she was still irritable after 4-6 weeks of Zantac. After she started Prevacid she was less irritable but developed side-effects including giving up napping during the day and green, mucus-like foul smelling stool (started this week). Oh yeah, she also has a milk protein based sensitivity. My wife is still nursing but has given up all dairy and dairy-like foods. Any help as to what this may mean or if this is serious?
1330108 tn?1333677304 t work for her so now she is on Prevacid. We have her in our room yet to sleep because I am afraid to put her in her room in case she spits up and has one of her "choking" episodes. I am not sure what you are using for her to sleep in but we just got a fishcer price rock and play which is amazing. It was recommended by her MD and we love it. She sleeps so good in it.
6822962 tn?1396329659 I'm 38 weeks now, and I have been taking previcid & zantac the entire pregnancy. I have GERD and other GI issues prepregnancy anyway. One thing I did find our early in in my pregnancy was that I have a gluten intolerance! This is pregnancy #6 (child #5) n it wasn't till about 9-10 weeks in that I realized I just can't have any gluten! I was really sick n it crazy tummy pain, vomiting n everything ...so I would maybe keep an eye in it for you too...who knows.
Avatar n tn Several options, some require you to talk with your provider before trying. Tablespoon of vinegar (gross, but works), glass of milk, tums/rolaids, Zantac/Prevacid.
Avatar f tn Is it okay to take Prilosec? They said Zantac was okay, but not to take Prevacid. I bought Prilosec and want your opinions on it.
290867 tn?1333569278 He is on Prevacid ( Zantac did not help him atall) 3x day and he seems to be feeling better on it. He is alos on Carafate 4x a day to coat his Esophagus because it was damaged badly! What are if any side effects of him taking these meds and could there be any long term problems???? Any one have any tricks that worked for you to help with the spitting up???
Avatar f tn Um o cant remember if this is fact bit i do believe it is not ok. But double check. They usually say just drink milk. I forced the acid up n out then drank milk....that usually helped.
Avatar f tn I can't get to the store :( I was gonna call my Dr in the morning but I took one just for tonight
547002 tn?1219797376 In July i was having some swallowing problems or thought i was and they did an EGD and found nothing but a VERY tiny hiatal hernia. My stomach lining was nice and pink. I had been taking prevacid for two weeks prior to the EGD due to the trouble swallowing NOW i want to stop taking the prevacid and every time i try i get really sick. I get weak, nauseaus and for a day or two i literally go to the bathroom constantly and have loose yellow stools with stomach cramps.
Avatar f tn Take 24 Prevacid for heartburn.
290867 tn?1333569278 s what I meant. I meant Prevacid. Mine was put on Zantac first and was then switched to Prevacid and that was better. The Zantac only helped for like a couple of weeks and then went right back. Well, if they have tried all of that, then maybe a GI specialist is the route to go. It sounds like your doc has tried everything. And maybe your doc is right. Maybe when Julian starts solids, it will help. I hope so.....for both your sake. I know it's hard....Just hang in there.
Avatar f tn She was at the time being evaluated for seizures and had come back with a normal EEG (24 hour video) at 3 weeks. Since that time, she has been treated with Prevacid and Zantac, we believe succesfully as her behavior has been positively impacted. However, her seizure like activity continues. I have read the articles mentioned in the other posts regarding Sandifers and it does not sound like her.
171768 tn?1324230099 I was hoping there was still a pediatric GERD forum... I have scanned posts and most seem to be adults. Anyone out there with a baby suffering? Your posts make me sooo sad for the babies who suffer with this. I can't even imagine what it must be like to go through that and not know what's wrong, why you hurt, etc... My daughter is 5 months old and has silent reflux. She has been on Zantac since 4 weeks old, but it just wasn't doing enough.
Avatar f tn I transitioned to Zantac from Prevacid because of concern that the Prevacid might be contributing to my arrythmias. I am off of the Zantac for a day or two to see if it makes a difference in my INR.
Avatar f tn Anyone know what is safe to take for heartburn? Its killing me and I don't know what's OK to take.
Avatar f tn I'm 33 weeks and have had heartburn since week 16. I take two 150mg Zantac daily. Along with tums for breakthrough. My physician told me it was completely fine. I also work with gasrtoenterologist and they recommend the same thing. Ask your doctor if it's ok for you to take that. It has been a life saver for me. Hope you get some relief soon!
Avatar n tn For many years, GER [Gastroesophageal reflux] during infancy and childhood was thought to be a consequence of absent or diminished LES tone [lower esophageal sphincter, which is sometimes also referred to as the Cardiac Sphincter due to its proximity to the heart]. However, studies have shown that baseline LES pressures are normal in pediatric patients, even in preterm infants.
Avatar f tn Oh dear god I hope someone can help me! I've been excessively burping now for about a year. When it starts, I burp for sometimes up to 10 hours or more a day. This has left me incapable of doing much! I've had upper, lower GI testing and all tests come back fine. I need help... I've been on tons of different meds trying to stop this and nothing is working. The only bit of relief I get is if I lay down on my right side.. and it takes a while before it slows down.
