Common Questions and Answers about Prevacid vs zantac for infant reflux

prevacid

1448936 tn?1363206346 I've raised my head at night. I haven't tried prevacid or prilosec. My doc prescribed me zantac in august so I've continued using it. I may try one of those to see if I get any relief because the zantac really isn't working.
171768 tn?1324230099 I was hoping there was still a pediatric GERD forum... I have scanned posts and most seem to be adults. Anyone out there with a baby suffering? Your posts make me sooo sad for the babies who suffer with this. I can't even imagine what it must be like to go through that and not know what's wrong, why you hurt, etc... My daughter is 5 months old and has silent reflux. She has been on Zantac since 4 weeks old, but it just wasn't doing enough.
Avatar f tn BUT I have seen many many thru the years post that they have issues that disappear with the right med. There are other meds out there (not sure if they are all FDA approved for infant usage, though so you must discuss with your Dr but when the risks outweight the benefits they will oftentimes use the med) .. Zantac and other supressors are a thought .. they can be given up to 3X a day with Mylanta inbetween if your Dr. agrees .. A Pedi GI may be the way to go at this point ..
Avatar n tn and in my 30s bile reflux started. There was no temporary relief for bile reflux - there is for acid reflux but not bile reflux. A couple of years ago, out of sheer desperation I tried ice cream. During a bile reflux attack (they're bloody awful) I ate ice cream ... and the last four times in a row it's worked. 1 to 2 cups of ice cream and 20 minutes later I'm completely ok. I don't lie down during an attack ... or after eating ice cream.
Avatar f tn I am 28w4d today and have really bad acid reflux weekday do you ladies do to help with it?
Avatar f tn I am way too young to have this problem. I have had acid reflux for years now and i have been taking meds for it. My doctor told me I need to try to ween myself off of the medicine (zegerid, because nexium and a million other meds dont woork). I tried doing that and I still keep getting heartburn no matter what. I have gotten the endoscopy several times and the doctors just say that the bottom of my esophagus is not tight, which gives me G.E.R.D. I can't deal with this anymore.
168348 tn?1379357075 Thanks for all the great info ... I am sure we will be referring back to it over and over again. And, it clears up a ? I've had for quite some time trying to understand why so many formulations for the same med! Funny, the big co's won't reveal the reasons .. I called my pharmacy and the Solutabs are actually less $ per mo. than the packets!
Avatar m tn My 4-month old daughter has acid reflux. She was prescribed Prevacid three weeks ago as she was still irritable after 4-6 weeks of Zantac. After she started Prevacid she was less irritable but developed side-effects including giving up napping during the day and green, mucus-like foul smelling stool (started this week). Oh yeah, she also has a milk protein based sensitivity. My wife is still nursing but has given up all dairy and dairy-like foods.
Avatar f tn I had acid reflux even before pregnancy. My doctor recommended zantac during my first two trimesters. It worked pretty well. Now there is just no room for my stomach, so he had me switch to prevacid, and I eat bland foods to keep it under control. I never recommend taking anything without asking, though. That way your doctor can explain the risks if there are any.
568875 tn?1424397205 he tries so hard formula comes out his nose and mouth (he still spits up now) the doc said he had reflux. so they put him on zantac. that seemed to work for a week maybe. and it went back to the screaming. so they doc changed his formula to enfamil gentle ease that made him worse (he was on that for 4 days) so she put him on nutramigen and changed the zantac to prevacid. hes been on the formula for 4 days and the prec for 2 days.
6822962 tn?1396329659 I have been taking prevacid my entire pregnancy. I have ulcers and really bad acid reflux. I called my drs office to make sure it was ok and the nurse saidit was safe. It works wonders for me. I don't get heartburn unless I miss a day. Which I never do because it's so bad. I'm 8 weeks +4 and everything is going fine with baby.
Avatar f tn Zantac is the only thing that works for me. Dinner time is when I get it the worst. So I take it while my husband cooks.
Avatar f tn Try zantac, 1% milk, tums, ice, and a walk before bed and don't lay down for an hour after eating.
Avatar f tn Intense heat can get to anyone, just like you and I may not feel well after being in the heat. It may be that the heat is upsetting her stomach. If you notice that she is spitting up a lot more when in the heat than when in the air, I would keep her inside. Bummer for you but better for her.
290867 tn?1333569278 s what I meant. I meant Prevacid. Mine was put on Zantac first and was then switched to Prevacid and that was better. The Zantac only helped for like a couple of weeks and then went right back. Well, if they have tried all of that, then maybe a GI specialist is the route to go. It sounds like your doc has tried everything. And maybe your doc is right. Maybe when Julian starts solids, it will help. I hope so.....for both your sake. I know it's hard....Just hang in there.
Avatar n tn s been on everything you can name- pepsid, rice cereal, prevacid, nexium, reglan, mylanta, zantac but nothing seems to work. He is breast fed pumped breast milk (he has always choked on my breast) and I use a premie nipple on the bottle. At around 4 months he started to refuse the bottle (breast milk only) at around this time I also tried introducing him to formula (Isomil soy) but he got so sick that I put him back on breast milk.
Avatar f tn Definitely sounds worth it to me too! It would be really nice if this baby has hair, my first was bald.
Avatar n tn Several options, some require you to talk with your provider before trying. Tablespoon of vinegar (gross, but works), glass of milk, tums/rolaids, Zantac/Prevacid.
Avatar f tn I take a generic prevacid for my heartburn but then when I hit 30 weeks it got worse so I added a magnesium supplement and that helps me a lot. No more heartburn for me!
Avatar f tn Take 24 Prevacid for heartburn.
1391312 tn?1421086993 Thank you all for your advise the Dexilant a newer PPI and Zantac 150mg 2 X a day seem to be helping (for now anyway). The Dexilant sure gives me a nasty headache, I'm hoping this will pass. I have had 2 doctors tell me to start on the current meds available, I am goig to meet with a 3rd on Thursday to see what he says. One gave a thumbs down to the mention of Telaprevir the other One is saying that he believes that since I have a low viral load and stage 1.
Avatar n tn Prevacid, Nexium, Protonix, Aciphex, Zantac, and Pepcid are all used to treat reflux. You can ask you doctor who will know best which one is least likely to cause you dizzyness.
