In fact when I burp, I can feel the hot yucky gas coming up from my stomach. A recent google showed that prevacid can cause a side effect of halitosis. Other comments insist it is the GERD but I am not entirely convinced. In my opinion, neither one is new to me, but the halitosis is. I suppose the only way to figure it out would be to go off the prevacid. What is the consensus out there?

There can be side-effects with the use of PPIs - no drug is without side-effects unfortunately. They can include changes to bone density - more ease of fracture - and anemic states due to loss of B12 uptake.
Changes in bowel habits and loose stools can be a result of the use of PPIs. If you cut down on acid, you cut down on the amount of food that's thoroughly digested and able to be absorbed. Those materials will cause changes in the output of the digestive system in a number of ways.
My wife in the 2nd week of her 6th chemo session of carboplatin, paclitaxel and avastin. Most of the side effects are predictable and have been increasing in severity over the sessions. For the last few days she has been subject to very painful occasions of bloating and severe intestinal gas pain. Don't find these in any of the listings of side effects other than "abdominal pain".
Anyone know if this is a common side effect and what can be done about it.
I have been on reflux meds for the past 5yrs and have had numerous side effects from hyperhydrosis, a tremor in my hand (which I was on propranolol for about 1yr 9mths for), and most recently a tic has developed in my eyelids. The hydrosis has finally went away (4.5yrs later) and the hand tremor is minimal but my eyelids are going nuts. I am assuming its the drugs for reflux (I am having surgery for that soon). Does anyone know of anything else that would be causing this?
By February, my stomach started seeming to bloat really bad after meals. I went to see an Urgent Care doctor and they prescribed me with Prevacid, as well as trying to order some xrays, a barium swallow, etc. But I followed up with my primary doctor and she told me that I should just take the Prevacid and not worry about the xrays and such. That acid reflux is "normal" and Prevacid will help it.
And it did. Or maybe I was thinking it was.
Until I ran out of it about 3 weeks ago.
t aware that laying on their right side can cause gas to build up in your colon and form a gas bubble. The way the colon is shaped and with the gas rising upward, when laying on the right side it gets trapped in the ascending and transverse sections of the colon and is not as easily expelled as it is when laying on the left side.
I recommend trying some OTC treatments like beano, gas X, prilosec, prevacid, Mylanta, mylox etc. for a few days.
It has many side effects, but I no longer have my pharmacy print-out of the side effects listed. My doctor told me Prevacid would not cause severe colitis, but it did. My GI doctor said it could, and I googled "Prevacid side effects" and found a Mayo Clinic article which stated that not only Prevacid, but Prilosec, and the other PPI drugs could in certain people cause severe colitis lasting for weeks.

as well - no energy or power ! it robbs you of normal energy or power
you had , no get up and go.. it got up and went with the benicar and other meds for b.p. its best to ask your Doctor to take you off it, asap
and switch to something that isnt so harsh on you !
She did blood work to test for bacteria. It was negative. She told me to take prevacid once a day no matter how I felt and to avoid OJ and tomatoes. So I did and it helped. I switched from prevacid to DGL and that helped as well. Then I started to feel a dull pain under my ribcage on the right side. It would come and go. Never sever, just annoying. Still have it on and off. Also have pain in my right flank area. I had an ultrasound done of my liver and it was fine.
My husband also used Prilosec for two weeks to help his esophagus heal. It worked well, but he didn't want to be on a proton pump inhibitor beyond what was absolutely necessary, so now he goes the natural route. If you haven't already read about ppi's, you may want to just so you can be well informed. I know many people take ppi's everyday, but if you see the possible side effects long term use can bring, they can be quite scary.
worsened IBS - bad abdominal cramps (caused by Nexium together with fever and Zantac)

I'd like to know if anybody has experienced intollerance to the various antireflux medicines similar to mine.

I suffer from acid reflux. I take Prevacid which works great. My only complaint is i burp loudly and continually through the night, waking me up. It doesn't burn it's like I just have a lot of air on my stomach and I can't stop burping. Could someone tell me what could be the cause of this and what can I do to stop it so I can get a full nights rest.
I have been prescribed Acebutolol for PVC's and I am literally exhausted since beginning this medication but I didn't see that as one of the side effects. Also, my vision is blurred. Is this normal?
my daughter was on prevacid for GERD...it caused her to vomit, and she was very fussy on it. Her doctor told me that side effects are vomitting, nausea, and headaches. I'm sorry you are going through this. Welcome to the community here. It helps to talk about things. It must be hard to see your son suffering so much.
And belching. For the next week, I tried Xantac and Gas-X (to no avail). Everything I ate caused more gas pressure/pain.
On Friday, I went to a nurse practioner who recommended Prevacid (30MG). I went for it and Saturday and Sunday felt SO much better (minus some dizziness and lower bowel pressure yesterday). This morning, I took my Prevacid (3rd day) and got SO dizzy and SO nauseous. 30 minutes later, I threw up a little bit but not much at all (more dry heaving and a bit of bile).
