There can be side-effects with the use of PPIs - no drug is without side-effects unfortunately. They can include changes to bone density - more ease of fracture - and anemic states due to loss of B12 uptake.
Changes in bowel habits and loose stools can be a result of the use of PPIs. If you cut down on acid, you cut down on the amount of food that's thoroughly digested and able to be absorbed. Those materials will cause changes in the output of the digestive system in a number of ways.
I have been on reflux meds for the past 5yrs and have had numerous side effects from hyperhydrosis, a tremor in my hand (which I was on propranolol for about 1yr 9mths for), and most recently a tic has developed in my eyelids. The hydrosis has finally went away (4.5yrs later) and the hand tremor is minimal but my eyelids are going nuts. I am assuming its the drugs for reflux (I am having surgery for that soon). Does anyone know of anything else that would be causing this?
My bone density plummeted from 15% above normal to 25% below normal in 6 years (post menopause). Could Prevacid excellerate bone loss. I don't have many risk factors for osteoporosis, no family history.
I take Synthroid, Verapamil, Prevacid. I eat lots of dairy, greens, almonds. I exercise daily.
I eat a fairly low carb diet, minimal alcohol, caffeine, and cola.

Femara treatment can indeed be taken for another 5 years after the initial 5 years of Tamoxifen and has proved to add additional survival benefit. However, one side effect concerns the effect of femara on bone metabolism. There is significant risk of decreasing bone mineral density and therefore cause some bone brittleness when taking this drug. I suggest you have yourself worked up for bone mineral density or osteoporosis.
It has many side effects, but I no longer have my pharmacy print-out of the side effects listed. My doctor told me Prevacid would not cause severe colitis, but it did. My GI doctor said it could, and I googled "Prevacid side effects" and found a Mayo Clinic article which stated that not only Prevacid, but Prilosec, and the other PPI drugs could in certain people cause severe colitis lasting for weeks.
Nearly 10 years on Prevacid and it may have caused the bone problems....just great. What it came down to was choosing for me. Given my family history of cancer, esophogeal cancer is probably higher on the list of risks for me than a broken hip, so I will continue to take the Prevacid and not the Actonel. I understand what you are saying. You are noticing behavior similar to what I have noticed in my husband. It is difficult to explain to anyone else, but you know what is normal for him. It can be difficult at times when you relied on him to take care of certain things and now you aren't sure whether you can.

my daughter was on prevacid for GERD...it caused her to vomit, and she was very fussy on it. Her doctor told me that side effects are vomitting, nausea, and headaches. I'm sorry you are going through this. Welcome to the community here. It helps to talk about things. It must be hard to see your son suffering so much.
i also had cryolobulinemia and the diabetes, side effects but mine turned to myelodysplastic syndrome. did you have bone marrow problems, did you develope serious skeletal bone pain along with your other side effects. m kidney's are shutting down.
