Prevacid rebound

Common Questions and Answers about Prevacid rebound

prevacid

Avatar m tn I have gone on and off PPI's (Prilosec and Prevacid a long time ago). When you cut back you get acid rebound. It's better to do it slowly if you can. I think Prevacid comes in 15mg but you need to ask your doctor as I'm not sure if the over the counter version is exactly the same as the prescription. You can also ask your doctor what else you can take to help with the acid rebound. Avoiding acidic foods also helps. Good luck!
547002 tn?1219797376 In July i was having some swallowing problems or thought i was and they did an EGD and found nothing but a VERY tiny hiatal hernia. My stomach lining was nice and pink. I had been taking prevacid for two weeks prior to the EGD due to the trouble swallowing NOW i want to stop taking the prevacid and every time i try i get really sick. I get weak, nauseaus and for a day or two i literally go to the bathroom constantly and have loose yellow stools with stomach cramps.
Avatar m tn After taking Prevacid, I gain my appetite back. The problem is, I have develope new symptoms after taking prevacid for 1 week. I am having very loose bowel movements, blood on the toliet paper when I wipe, indigestion, lower abdominal pain. Most importantly is I am having more frequent heartburn and chest pain, which I don't have when I am on the H2 blocker.
1806721 tn?1554333407 I have never taken Prevacid before. Are these two the same thing? Can I use Prilosec to substitute the Prevacid in the pack? I'm scared of stopping Prilosec as my symptoms always get worse when I tried to wean myself off the drug in the past. I'm also horrified by the idea of combined antibiotics for extended time. I can barely tolerate a single antibiotic agent for 5d in the past. How much probiotics should I take to counteract the side effects of antibiotics? Thank you!
Avatar f tn That is interesting because I was taking Prevacid and also noticed an increase in PAC's. Its still to early for me to tell if that was the culprit because my Palps have a mind of their own and can last as long as a week at times. For now though I have stopped the Prevacid to see if that helps. I also take fish oil which I've heard can help palps but I've also read that they can worsen them, who knows? Keep us posted!
Avatar f tn just called and said its Diverticulia(sp) and also said Bacteria in my stomach and thats what is causing the bloating and stay on Prevacid for a month. Can you tell me how you felt symptoms and how long will it take for my stomach to go down to normal. He also said to eat alot of fiber, veggies and fruit. Then if it does help to take Benefiber does this really work? I'm hoping someone can explain the Dx's alittle more because you know how fast the Drs.
Avatar m tn After months of treatment, my doc informed me it's now time to get off my heartburn medication (Nexium). I tried to go completely off of it, but within days my GERD symptims fire up again: sore throat, hard to eliminate mucus in throat, hoarse voice, pain in my tongue/mouth, and--rarely--pain in my back and upper stomach. I tried to go on once-every-two-days, as per his second recommendation, and while the symptoms are better, the aforemention symptoms are still there.
Avatar m tn If so are H2 meds like Pepcid and Zantac ok, or are PPI meds like Prilosec and Prevacid better? Thanks and have a great day!
Avatar n tn She saw the doctor today and he told her to stop the iron supplement and gave her prevacid to see if it is due a stomach problem. Today she took prevacid and ate again. Tonight, she is again after eating having the same problems. We checked her blood pressure right now, it came out very low 80/60. Is this good because the drug is working ? or bad and should the drug dosage be reduced ? or is this a sign of her actually getting better and be able to be off the drug ?

Avatar n tn My daughter also takes pentasa and WAS taking prevacid. The prevacid didn't seem to help her and our GI switched her to prilosec. My daughter has had no complaints with the prilosec. Both prevacid and prilosec have the same actions so they do the same things. The only interaction that I know of with prevacid and penicillin is with a type of penicillin called Ampicillin and it may inhibit the absorption of the prevacid.
171768 tn?1324230099 I was hoping there was still a pediatric GERD forum... I have scanned posts and most seem to be adults. Anyone out there with a baby suffering? Your posts make me sooo sad for the babies who suffer with this. I can't even imagine what it must be like to go through that and not know what's wrong, why you hurt, etc... My daughter is 5 months old and has silent reflux. She has been on Zantac since 4 weeks old, but it just wasn't doing enough.
1569985 tn?1328247482 I just got my Prevacid Rx (taken for reflux) refilled. I have been taking this for roughly 10 years, just about the same number of years I've been having Afib. On the cautions, it reads, "Low Blood Magnesium levels have been reported rarely in patients taking PPIs for at least 3 months. In most cases, this effect was seen after a year of treatment. If you will be taking this med for a long time or if you take certain other meds (eg.
Avatar f tn My GI thinks I have reflux but we haven't done an endoscopy. He said my stomach pain coupled with "burning" are signs of the reflux. I was on a Prevacid for a while and things got better and stayed better for a long time, so he took my off it as a trial. Now its back and I tried the Prevacid again, but its not working. We're thinking about trying Prilosec (sorry if its spelled wrong) OTC. Right now I'm just taking Tums until we decide. Does the prilosec work well?
Avatar f tn I am having a problem with taking my Prevacid 4 hrs. after Synthroid. Right now my routine is to take Synthroid when I first get up and 6 AM. an hour later eat something void of fiber (usually egg sub.) The 4 hrs. later I take the Prevacid and have another small meal (cereal usually). The problem is something is causing a bad taste to come back in to my mouth sometime after all this and I am thinking it is because the Prevacid really is not being taken prior to eating.
Avatar m tn I was told to cut back the Prevacid to once a day. My blood work shows no obvious problems. Has prevacid been linked to Osteoporosis? This discussion is related to Prevacid and Osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn I just went to the doctor to get blood tests and make sure that my drinking has not already damaged my body beyond repair. Avatar n tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Did you just start taking prevacid? Have you eaten anything red recently? Are you constipated? Do you have hemmorhoids?
Avatar f tn Now off hydro 5 days, taking prevacid again. I will deal with acid reflux and take my prevacid..Stress does make it flare up really bad...so just maybe I can get it back under control soon...
Avatar f tn I was recently told that even a single dose of OTC or pain killers can cause a rebound headache. I also have chronic daily headaches as well as a few migraines each week. Can the ER cocktail of Benadryl, Toradol, Zofran, Reglan, ativan ,and decadron potentially cause a rebound effect. There's some weeks, I'm in the ER 2-3 times per week . Some months, I don't go at all. At home, Ido not take anything except amlodapine and valium twice a day.
341042 tn?1244776427 also talked to me about rebound headaches, so I have tapered down my use of triptans and painkiller (I usually take Fiorinal). I was told if you don't use one type more than 3 or 4 times a week, you can usually avoid rebound headaches. I do my best to endure the "not as severe" headaches, and only take medication when necessary. I'm still taking either a triptan or an analgesic 3-4 days a week (one of each).
Avatar m tn I am an 18 year old whose migraines usually rebound with Imitrex therapy. Which of the following is recommended?
2048234 tn?1330814100 Hey scaredmommy - I don't remember how many days you have. I had rebound pain of some sort headaches included well beyond 30 days clean. I had a two week period where I really pondered living the rest of my life in pain and if I could but it did pass. I still have pain but not anywhere along the lines of those two weeks and it is manageable.
