H2 blockers (ex. Zantec or Pepcid) are another type of medication used to treat GERD. PPI's (ex. Prilosec, Prevacid, Dexilant, Nexium, Protonix) are another class of medications used to treat GERD. H2 blockers are generally thought to be safer with less adverse reactions than PPI's.

I've had sinus problems for a very long time, it's been recently brought to my attention by an ENT (I can no longer see) that it's likely being caused by silent reflux. I never feel heartburn. I got Prevacid OTC and I have been taking it for two days. It's causing me some serious pain and lethargy I am unsure if I should just keep going or if it gets better. From what I'm reading online these are some serious and possibly dangerous medicines.

You could trial him out on the over the counter Zantac, which is an H2 blocker, and will help with allergic reactions as well as indigestion. Or his own production of gastric acids are in excess and with the added acids in those foods, it leads to sweats, like when people eat hot chilli or hot wings. If that's the case then a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) will help reduce the acid by not allowing so much to be produced.

My daughter also takes pentasa and WAS taking prevacid. The prevacid didn't seem to help her and our GI switched her to prilosec. My daughter has had no complaints with the prilosec. Both prevacid and prilosec have the same actions so they do the same things. The only interaction that I know of with prevacid and penicillin is with a type of penicillin called Ampicillin and it may inhibit the absorption of the prevacid.

I do have a small hiatal hernia and take Prevacid. Prevacid could interfere with Synthroid so have begun taking that after supper in the evenings so that there is a lot of time between the two meds. My question is has anyone experienced stomach problems after being on Synthroid for a few months? If anyone is taking Synthroid and Prevacid, how do you schedule it?

I am having a problem with taking my Prevacid 4 hrs. after Synthroid. Right now my routine is to take Synthroid when I first get up and 6 AM. an hour later eat something void of fiber (usually egg sub.) The 4 hrs. later I take the Prevacid and have another small meal (cereal usually). The problem is something is causing a bad taste to come back in to my mouth sometime after all this and I am thinking it is because the Prevacid really is not being taken prior to eating.

I am guessing that this is all allergy-induced/related since they found no lung or heart damage. I am also on Prevacid for acid since I have a history of gastrointestinal problems (had acid reflux several years ago, and it seemed to go away with Prevpack), but for the past couple of months, I've had stomach burning, and at base of rib cage and between breast bone, for which I've been taking the Prevacid for almost a month now and watching out for caffeine, tomato sauce, etc.

I just went to the doctor to get blood tests and make sure that my drinking has not already damaged my body beyond repair. My doctor gave me Prevacid for some stomach issues I have been Having. Does anyone know if it is safe to take it when I have been drinking? I am really trying to stop but I am having problems with the withdrawls so I am trying to wean myself off. Any one have any opinions? I would hate to do more damage when I ma trying to correct already done damage.

Now off hydro 5 days, taking prevacid again. I will deal with acid reflux and take my prevacid..Stress does make it flare up really bad...so just maybe I can get it back under control soon...

After taking Prevacid, I gain my appetite back. The problem is, I have develope new symptoms after taking prevacid for 1 week. I am having very loose bowel movements, blood on the toliet paper when I wipe, indigestion, lower abdominal pain. Most importantly is I am having more frequent heartburn and chest pain, which I don't have when I am on the H2 blocker.

i had blood work done and now my cholesterol is 160 without any changes except for the Prevacid. Can Prevacid lower cholesterol ? I was worried because I have read that an unexplained drop in cholesterol could mean cancer someplace.

I quit prevacid on many occasions cold turkey. It caused massive lower stomach cramps and thick painful diarrhea. I recommend you get off it immediately, however, slowly ween yourself off. DO NOT quit cold turkey. Get on Zantac. PPI's truly messed me up. Made me 1000 times sicker than my GERD. Now I've been off them for 6 months and live a normal healthy life. Those are poison. Doctors will do anything they can to get your money, don't belive the ppi hype.

Started Prevacid and also Strattera for ADD. We were able to wean off of the Prevacid and just stick to Strattera, as our peds thinks the Strattera helps him with the anxiety related to the GERD, and therefore he had no complaints of symptoms of GERD. In March we went off of the Strattera, and within 4 weeks the symptoms of GERD re-appeared ( Not eating, coughing, feeling like something is caught in his throat.) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid.

I Was prescribed nexium an then prevacid but both i felt side effects so im currently taking zantac 150mg so far 4 days

what are the reactions to eating wheat and having dairy products when having autism.

Now that I'm taking Rebif I'm noticing injection site reactions. I know it will happen, but is there anything I can do or something others have done for it. Please help!!!!!!

Hi I have had GERD for a few years now. I've never had halitosis. Recently my reflux started acting up, so i doubled my prevacid. I'm not sure what is causing my very horrid halitosis. I have figured out it is not dental related. In fact when I burp, I can feel the hot yucky gas coming up from my stomach. A recent google showed that prevacid can cause a side effect of halitosis. Other comments insist it is the GERD but I am not entirely convinced.
