Try the OTC prevacid that was just recently released. I used to be on prevacid when it was only available by prescription until my insurance company stopped covering it. I definitely am going to use the OTC version since the Prilosec my insurance co told me to use does absolutely nothing.

I have been taking Prilosec OTC and my Doctor prescribed Nexium. It seems to me that they are the same, with one being extremely cheaper. I am Beginning my fifth month of pregnancy and I would like to know if it is safe to continue taking prilosec otc.

I'm sorry you're having such tummy troubles. I, too, have quite a lot of gastric issues - always have since I was a little kid. It sounds like you're having a pretty severe case of gastric reflux. It can definitely bring on the symptoms you've described.

You can try one of these substitutes and determine whether one or two tablets takes care of your acid problem. All of these medications were one time prescription medicines, so the OTC strength may not be as strong as Prilosec. I keep both of the substitutes handy in case of an emergency.

I am taking tagamet otc- Walmart generic brand and for me it is better than the rx ones- But that's just me....

I was very restless and anxious and the warnings were to quit it immediately if I experienced those symptoms. So, my OB put me on Prilosec OTC this week----I have read pros and cons on line.....anyone else out there have an opinion?

Yeah I have pretty much tried them all! Nothing seems to work. Today for example I took two prevacid, yet at 8:45 I am sitting here with acid in the back of my throat. I have tried all OTC stuff, prevacid, prilosec, and aciphex. I may give nexium a shot because that seems to work the best for some people.

As the title said, I am a 50 year old healthy female(with normal BMR). I used to have bad heartburn years ago, but was able to treat it with change in diet and prevacid. I actually haven't taken this medication for a few years. Then about a month ago, I started getting heartburn, along with nausea and vomiting. Soon, I also had bitter taste in my mouth. Do not take double the over the counter dose (perscription dose) of any of these medications without first consulting your doctor. I have found that OTC Prevacid or Prilosec work well.

I have actually been on some form of reflux med for a bit longer than 5yrs and started with Prilosec OTC, then prescription Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and briefly Prevacid. These days I tend to take whatever I have in my medicine cabinet (Aciphex or Prevacid) twice a day, max dosage, and occasionally a tagamet to help out. I have a hiatial hernia that is going to be fixed soon so I am hoping to get off the meds and that the side effects will eventually go away...I hope.

You just have to want a clean life more than the drug and its high.Also have some otc replacements because you will need something for pain,sleep and RLS.Opiates cause tolerance and as you take more that causes rebound pain which makes you take more and the viscous circle starts.You will definitely have rebound withdrawal pain that is often stronger than the original pain,but it will subside and probably otc pain meds in recommended doses will help.

Yes this is fairly common during tx, check with you doctor about giving you either nexium, prevacid, or prilosec. All are safe to take, nexium and prevacid worked best for me. Congrats on being over halfway done. Wishing you the best.

I have acid reflux and ulcers so tums never helped. They said that prevacid is safe to take. Plus it is otc so no prescription needed.

Right now, I am taking Prevacid 30mg. My voice at times is hoarse, so I went to an ENT dr. and he sent me for a test to look into my throat, and I was told that I have swollen vocal cords, and the acid is still backing up. I took Prilosec OTC but it did not agree with me. I have rashes on my knees, elbows, back and my neck and back and head hurt, Is the Prevacid enough and could it be causing all these symptoms?

So why did they take Prevacid Packets off the shelf I ask .. grrrrrrrrrrr .. my co pay was $35/mo! It is helpful to have a quick melt or packet to mix for kids who aren't able to swallow a pill .. and the taste for an older child is awful if compounded (tastes like salt even with flavor bcz of the saccharine like products in it).
