What are the dangers of long term, continuous use of acid reflux control medications such as Prevacid and Prilosec OTC?

I was told to cut back the Prevacid to once a day. My blood work shows no obvious problems. Has prevacid been linked to Osteoporosis? This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/236579'>Prevacid and Osteoporosis</a>.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF PREVACID USE WITH HEP C? SINCE ITS EXPENSIVE IS THERE A GENERIC FORM?

I am on Warfarin and apparently, according to the pharmacist (not the Coumadin Clinic) there can be an interaction. There was also no warning on the box. I transitioned to Zantac from Prevacid because of concern that the Prevacid might be contributing to my arrythmias. I am off of the Zantac for a day or two to see if it makes a difference in my INR.

I used ibuprofen pretty often each day for about two weeks for severe pain in my hand and finger joints. I began to have chronic nausea, got off the ibuprofen, started taking Prevacid and Pepcid Complete, then Reglan per doctor's prescription. Bad side effects from Reglan--irritability, dizziness, depression,sleepiness. Got off of it. After about 4 weeks, I still have some nausea and only want to eat starches and sugars. Had gallbladder removed 6 months ago.

So I had my 1st prenatal apt w/ my beloved ob/gyn's office. Everything went well even though I still feel horrible physically. I'm highrisk so my dr wanted to see me again in a week. I get all the lil pamphlets & prescriptions & blood work. When I get to the front desk to schedule my nxt visit,the receptionist is on the phone. But she's usually very good at multi tasking so I didn't complain.

Now there is just no room for my stomach, so he had me switch to prevacid, and I eat bland foods to keep it under control. I never recommend taking anything without asking, though. That way your doctor can explain the risks if there are any.

The dr yesterday put me on nexium for 5 days then will start 30 mg of prevacid which has not helped in the past. I really appreciate any suggestions as I really do not care to have a 4th stay in the hospital this year. Thanks...

Hi all. I need to start a good multi-vitamin and wanted to know if anyone can recommend a product? I keep seeing multi's that have iodine in them and I'm not sure if I should avoid iodine in supplements because of my hypothyroidism/hashi's? On a side note I've been getting very down about my diagnosis. I think I was in denial and when I started medication I was still in denial in a way.

is there anything that will boost my energy. i am going crazy just sitting or laying around. i use to be active until i used methadone. the methadone helped my habit i had but i also feel it drained me of my energy. please help if you know anything. i'm eating all the protein i can really don't have much of an appitiate anymore. thanks.

My doc said that taking over the counter meds like prevacid are safe to use. Ive been taking omeprozole (generic prevacid) for almost 2 months now and I never get indigestion anymore.

Hi Selma I have a wedge pillow that I use to elevate me instead of the whole bed. Some poeple call it a reflux pillow. I do try to avoid certian foods. I have eliminated sodas and most of my coffee which is huge for me. I was wondering how long before my symptoms would greatly improve I have been on double my normal dose of acidphex for over a month now and still have th symtoms a lot during the day whether I eat or not. It gets really frustrating.

Can prevacid work better than nexium with treating idiopathic gastroparesis? Is there ever been a comparison done?

My daughter also takes pentasa and WAS taking prevacid. The prevacid didn't seem to help her and our GI switched her to prilosec. My daughter has had no complaints with the prilosec. Both prevacid and prilosec have the same actions so they do the same things. The only interaction that I know of with prevacid and penicillin is with a type of penicillin called Ampicillin and it may inhibit the absorption of the prevacid.

on dec19,i got some pain medicine for abdomen pain,today dec 30th i got another pain medicine because the pain was alot stronger and more sever than before,can i use my insurance card to get the 12 tablets i got from the ER.

There is a recent warning put out by the FDA that says that long term use of prevacid can result in low magnesium levels which in turn can result in irregular heartbeats. I'd make a color Xerox of the original card, and then file the original card away with important papers (where you keep you insurance papers or bank statements or your birth certificate). Then you can laminate the copy all you like, and carry it around.

PLEASE fully discuss the correct use of this med with your doc. As the other poster mentioned, reglan can have some very, very serious drawbacks.

I was crushing my pill with my credit card and he borrowed it for a second to either crush his pill or scrape pill residue off of another card (maybe he was making lines out of the powder for IV use too). I some times would run my finger over the edge of the card to get the pill residue on my finger and then lick my finger (in know gross, but I have a problem that I am trying to get help for so please do not make fun of me or judge me).
