prevacid how long to work

My question is how long until the Zegerid they switched me to will stop working too? I have also been taking Zantac the entire time as well. I have already been tried on all the others and they just don't work, so unless something new comes out and my trend continues, my fear is that I'll be sunk with chronic issues that just won't heal.

I am getting tired already tho and having back/ hip pain so hoping I can last that long at work. Work as long as I your body will let you.

I have gone on and off PPI's (Prilosec and Prevacid a long time ago). When you cut back you get acid rebound. It's better to do it slowly if you can. I think Prevacid comes in 15mg but you need to ask your doctor as I'm not sure if the over the counter version is exactly the same as the prescription. You can also ask your doctor what else you can take to help with the acid rebound. Avoiding acidic foods also helps. Good luck!

I recently switched to acidphex due to the high cost of the Prevacid. It seems to work the same. I do not know any holistic remedys as I have never try. When mine acts up, I get nauseaus bad... and feel sick to my stomach all the time.

I had been taking prevacid for two weeks prior to the EGD due to the trouble swallowing NOW i want to stop taking the prevacid and every time i try i get really sick. I get weak, nauseaus and for a day or two i literally go to the bathroom constantly and have loose yellow stools with stomach cramps. I went to the doctor and she thought it might be IBS but it doesnt happen unless i quit taking the prevacid for a couple of days!! Has anyone experienced this? If so, what did you do to stop it???

Daughter is already on Neocate and Prevacid twice daily. Doctors at hospital and GI doc said they've never seen anything like it. She has mild reflux at best. She's had endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, ph monitoring, MRI, ECHO, Biopsies of colon and esophagus, and numerous blood tests and urine tests. They can find nothing wrong with her. Now they want to put in a G-tube in a week or so. Right now she's feeding through an NG tube. I'm so upset I don't know what to do.

I have been prescribed Nexium by my doctor for the past 9 months and it is wonderful in preventing heartburn but after a while I started noticing that my stomach was slower as it would take up to 12 hours to empty my stomach. I recently changed to Prevacid as it recently came out as an OTC and it is my 10th day on it and already feeling the difference.

I, too, have had an irritable heart when I've tried to cut back on the PPI. I am going to see my internist next week and my cardiologist next month. I think when you stop the PPI you get a rebound effect with more acid. I am not sure how long that would last. I'm thinking maybe a lower dose -- I take 30 mg. of Prevacid -- and/or trying the meds like famatadine or rimitadine (sp?) might be an answer.

s what I meant. I meant Prevacid. Mine was put on Zantac first and was then switched to Prevacid and that was better. The Zantac only helped for like a couple of weeks and then went right back. Well, if they have tried all of that, then maybe a GI specialist is the route to go. It sounds like your doc has tried everything. And maybe your doc is right. Maybe when Julian starts solids, it will help. I hope so.....for both your sake. I know it's hard....Just hang in there.

Hi I am a 29 years old male, been healthy all my life. I don't drink but I do smoke, like 7-8 cigarettes per day, sometimes less. About 2 months ago I started having stomach cramping and chest pain. When it started it hurts so bad I couldn't even eat. After a few days I went to the doctor and he prescribe me a H2 blocker (forgot name sorry).

s of which this med is one...tend to work slowly...4 days is not enuff time to see improvement.U may need 4 weeks depending on how bad ur acid was prior to staring the meds.

Hi, I know your post is old, but today when I asked my endocrinologist about having to space out my Prevacid and Synthroid, he said you absolutely CAN take them together,,, AND..he told me that it doesn't matter what time of day. Also said that Synthroid does not have to be on an empty stomach. He said there is WAY too much myth about Synthroid and what interrupts its effectiveness. He said the ONLY thing that interferes with Synthroid is calcium and iron.

Started Prevacid and also Strattera for ADD. We were able to wean off of the Prevacid and just stick to Strattera, as our peds thinks the Strattera helps him with the anxiety related to the GERD, and therefore he had no complaints of symptoms of GERD. In March we went off of the Strattera, and within 4 weeks the symptoms of GERD re-appeared ( Not eating, coughing, feeling like something is caught in his throat.) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid.

Started on Monday and still no better. How long would it take for these Meds to be working if they were going to?

Oh my gosh, how frightening! I am new to hypothyroidism so I don't know the answer to your question, but since you have lupus, have you run this situation by your rheumie? Are the two docs exchanging info to best get all of this under control? I hope you begin to feel better soon. Good luck!

I should have said how long will it for the symtoms to begin to go away?

I am wondering how long it takes Fludrocortisone to work. I have been taking 1/2 of a .1 mg tablet twice a day for a couple of weeks. My BP has not gone up at all and I don't feel any better. I have already gained a few pounds quickly and am trying to decide whether to go up on it. My dr. said I could.

Is prevacid an otc item in the US? i work in a pharmacy in canada and its prescription. 15 mg and 30 mg.
