prevacid

Avatar m tn Hi I am a 29 years old male, been healthy all my life. I don't drink but I do smoke, like 7-8 cigarettes per day, sometimes less. About 2 months ago I started having stomach cramping and chest pain. When it started it hurts so bad I couldn't even eat. After a few days I went to the doctor and he prescribe me a H2 blocker (forgot name sorry).
Avatar f tn It sounds like you need a different controller med, a stronger dose or to layer a PPI with an H2 blocker. I am don't know what the ingredients of Prevacid are, but you may want to look into different options with your controller. Also, do you eat chocolate or have caffeine? Caffeine in any form is a trigger. With the holidays it could be easy to indulge. Alcohol and peppermint are big triggers as well. What about garlic and onions? Two last thoughts.
711902 tn?1229431139 Any number of PPIs such as Prevacid and Aciphex. If these are also problematic, talk to your doctor about surgical options, like fundiplication and the Plicator procedure.
Avatar m tn He said that eventually I will need Nissen Funoplication. However, he began by adjusting my meds, suggesting that I switch from the H2 blocker to a Prevacid OTC 2x a day. He also prescribed Sucralfate 1gm 3x/day saying I should dissolve the tablet in a small amount of water so it could coat my esophagus on the way down to help alleviate my symptoms. It's been ten days and the change in meds doesn't seem to be helping. The worst attacks come when I exercise.
Avatar m tn I was going to switch to an H2 blocker and if absolutely need be Prilosec as I have not had that side effect with this drug. Anyone know if I can just stop or should I be opening the capsule and removing some granules and such?
Avatar m tn You could trial him out on the over the counter Zantac, which is an H2 blocker, and will help with allergic reactions as well as indigestion. Or his own production of gastric acids are in excess and with the added acids in those foods, it leads to sweats, like when people eat hot chilli or hot wings. If that's the case then a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) will help reduce the acid by not allowing so much to be produced.
1387175 tn?1326400997 Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Prilosec does not increase your risk of getting esophageal cancer. The thing that is causing you to need prilosec causes the increase in risk of esophageal cancer. So whether or not you take prilosec for your problem, doesn't change you risk of developing esophageal cancer. Have you tried dietary changes to see if that helps your GERD enough so that you don't need prilosec. Have you tried H2 blockers?
424634 tn?1277857528 The TMD pain is in the inner ear, head, jaw, face, neck, and can radiate as low as the chest at times. You may wan to try something like Zantac (an H2 blocker) or Prilosec OTC (a Proton Pump Inhibitor) to see whether that helps symptoms. Of course, consult with your doc about this. FYI, my first symptoms of GERD were about the same as yours. I also had a lump feeling and clicking in my throat which has been virtually eliminated since I started medications about 6 weeks ago.
Avatar m tn Some people get relief by increasing their stomach acid by drinking a tablespoon of vinegar, others by taking an H2 blocker like Prevacid...Have your blood calcium levels checked to be sure this isn't the problem, because, if elevated, it can cause a myriad of problems like kidney stones, gut problems, ulcers, headaches, etc, etc...
Avatar n tn Consider Switching to a H2 blocker. H2 blocker safer than PPI's aka proton pump inhibitor. Ask the pharmacist at local drug store.
547002 tn?1219797376 As for your symptoms on discontinuation of the Prevacid, it might be worth switching to an H2 blocker such as Pepcid or Zantac for a week or two to lessen the acid suppression but maintain a little.
Avatar m tn "Basically you should avoid everything that's good." so true, haha.
Avatar f tn It is possible you over produce histamines and that a H2 blocker will help ease your symptoms.....I too had similar symptoms as you, and PPI's did not help with my symptoms....but once y Dr changed me to the H2 blocker which blocks histamines I began to feel better....diet is important too. There are some foods that can cause you to over produce Histamines. Worth looking into.....good luck.
Avatar m tn It can be very serious. Talk to your specialist about layering a proton pump inhibitor with your H2 blocker. Also, have you had a scopd of your digestive track done. That can help determine the cause of your issues. For example, do you have a hiatel hernia? Bottom line, talk with your specialist about treatment options no matter what the Ph test results say. It is a big deal.
Avatar m tn Hello, There are over the counter medicines BUT if you plan on just taking them a couple of times a month (as needed), then stick with H2 blockers an hour or two before eating something you think might set it off. H2 blockers include: • Axid AR • Pepcid AC • Tagament HB • Zantac PPI's such as Prilosec, Prevacid, Zegerid take days to start working (usually a week). So if you are in a hurry forget these.
Avatar m tn I was on a PPI and they stopped working for me.....after a talk with my Dr I was switched to a H2 blocker.....so do look into other options as there are a few.
Avatar n tn Thank you very much!
Avatar f tn Lose the caffeine, manage stress, get enough sleep. You might want to ask your doctor about a beta blocker, they are relatively benign. good luck.
Avatar m tn I would recommend you try different PPI's or try an H2 blocker to see if they help your GERD symptoms, and also help your other symptoms.
Avatar f tn I have taken antihistamin(first, second generation H1 blocker, also H2 blocker), mast cell cell stabilizer(monokast) which are not responding to the hives . I have started taking glucocorticoid(prednisolone, deflacort) which are doing good. I have not found any trigger for this hives, which appear everyday and go away after taking steroid.
Avatar m tn t work, as I start having the reflux symptoms. Even within the week I may have once-in-a-while reflux, and then I take an H2 blocker. Thanks.
Avatar m tn I have been prescribed Nexium by my doctor for the past 9 months and it is wonderful in preventing heartburn but after a while I started noticing that my stomach was slower as it would take up to 12 hours to empty my stomach. I recently changed to Prevacid as it recently came out as an OTC and it is my 10th day on it and already feeling the difference.
Avatar f tn That is interesting because I was taking Prevacid and also noticed an increase in PAC's. Its still to early for me to tell if that was the culprit because my Palps have a mind of their own and can last as long as a week at times. For now though I have stopped the Prevacid to see if that helps. I also take fish oil which I've heard can help palps but I've also read that they can worsen them, who knows? Keep us posted!
Avatar m tn One is definitely more effect than the other. the better one in this case would be the proton-pump inhibitor. The other is an H2 blocker. I'd have to look them up to comment on which are which, but for example Pepcid - H2 Prevacid - proton pump Send Craig my regards. I know he doesn't want a sleep study.
