The Prevacid seemed to make the GERD much much worse, and now the Prevacid seems to be doing nothing at all. I have terrible GERD. It affects me every day, all the time. What happens is, normally, my breath will be labored (being overweight doesn't exactly help the situation) my chest will feel very full, my heart will race for no reason at all during different times of the day. It flares up terrible after meals, even if they aren't heavy.

Started Prevacid and also Strattera for ADD. We were able to wean off of the Prevacid and just stick to Strattera, as our peds thinks the Strattera helps him with the anxiety related to the GERD, and therefore he had no complaints of symptoms of GERD. In March we went off of the Strattera, and within 4 weeks the symptoms of GERD re-appeared ( Not eating, coughing, feeling like something is caught in his throat.) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid.

Have you been tested for H. pylori? If you haven't, do so as the presence of the bacteria is suggested to contribute to bad breath.

I have taken GERD medication for about 20 years. I was on Prevacid for many years. My GERD is severe, and nothing else worked as well. Protonix and Nexium did NOTHING for me, nor did Aciphex. Prevacid works OK, and my doc suggested Kapidex and I took it for a month. I did about as well on it as the Prevacid if not a tad better. I think Prevacid and/or Kapidex blow away Nexium; although what may be right for me will not be guaranteed for you.

Does anyone else get epigastric pain with exercise, and shortness of breath due to GERD? My physician and I have exhausted all other options, so it seems my exercise intolerance is due to my GERD. I have had a PH study which came back pretty nasty, and the GI doc recommended a Nissen, and now my personal doc is as well. However, I want to be completely sure GERD is causing these problems before I go down this road. Any advice?

Hello, I have an issue with acid being pushed up and down my esophagus into the back of my mouth. I think I have GERD, I have been having these symptoms everyday, all the time for approximately 2 years now, getting worse over time. I have tried Prevacid and a generic of the same kind of medicine and they have done absolutely nothing for me. I am getting irritated by the constant feeling of having to push up the acid and tasting food that I have ate during the day.

Hi--I recently had an Upper GI for nausea and the test came back normal except for a "small amount" of reflux. I was surprised to hear this since I have never had heart burn in my life, even when I was pregnant. My GP does not want to put me on any medication since she said there are no symptoms to treat. She said to take 2 tums at night since it could do damage to my esophagus when I lay down but other than that I didn't need to take anything.

I just started taking 30 mg of Lansoprazole a day for gerd. Does anyone know if the Prevacid (lansoprozole) prevents absorption of the the drugs. I asked my GI doctor and he said he didn't think there were issues of that sort, but he wasn't sure. appreciate any advice!

I have never taken Prevacid before. Are these two the same thing? Can I use Prilosec to substitute the Prevacid in the pack? I'm scared of stopping Prilosec as my symptoms always get worse when I tried to wean myself off the drug in the past. I'm also horrified by the idea of combined antibiotics for extended time. I can barely tolerate a single antibiotic agent for 5d in the past. How much probiotics should I take to counteract the side effects of antibiotics? Thank you!

i had blood work done and now my cholesterol is 160 without any changes except for the Prevacid. Can Prevacid lower cholesterol ? I was worried because I have read that an unexplained drop in cholesterol could mean cancer someplace.

I supposedly have GERD and have been on Prevacid for 2 years. Thing is I'm not sure what's causing it; my doc is assuming it's a weak LES, and if it is, I can't see ever getting off the meds. If it isn't, I'd think it'd be much easier. Has anyone done anything that helped their GERD without Rx meds?

My 6month old was prescribed .25mg of Prevacid because of GERD symptoms. The pharmacy wouldn't fill it until speaking with the doctor. I'm just wondering if anyone has an infant/child that was given the same thing? He's not losing weight but he has trouble sleeping at night and he spits up way too much and I've alread changed his formula 3 times. He sleeps better when propped up but putting the pillow under the mattress isnt enough.

After discovering what my food sensitivities are through an elimination diet, I no longer take medication for my GERD, and I have GERD pretty bad. It turned out that the reflux was definitely caused by food sensitivities in my case and is probably the case for many other people, too. Improving the diet helped with the IBS, too. I can relate, because I have no doubt that I had IBS my whole life even though I wasn't diagnosed 'til I was a young woman.

Have you tried any of the PPI drugs like Prevacid or Prilosec? They keep my GERD under control and the vagus nerve quieted down, which reduces arrythmias. I can tell a real difference when I don't take the medicine. I would certainly ask for the meds instead of surgery. They are available over the counter in lower doeses and Prevacid 30 mg. is generic. I would think it would be worth a try. I too, would prefer to try the most conservative approach. Surgery has its risks.

I was having alot of GERD symptoms last week before she put me on the higher dose of prevacid. I feel alot better when it comes to GERD symptoms. but i dont gag, regurgitate or have food go up my nose. I can breathe normally. Have not had any aspiration of food or liquids. Hope its not something deadly.

I have been prescribed Nexium by my doctor for the past 9 months and it is wonderful in preventing heartburn but after a while I started noticing that my stomach was slower as it would take up to 12 hours to empty my stomach. I recently changed to Prevacid as it recently came out as an OTC and it is my 10th day on it and already feeling the difference.

Does anyone know best medication for GERD? I am using prevacid but does not last all day. My doc told me to take it before bedtime but I have to take before dinner. Otherwis I get pain in chest and the feeling that there is alot of air or gas in middle of chest. I have to stretch and force myelf to burb to try to let it out. It is extremely uncomfortable. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am 31 and just started having problem this year MAN it SUCKS !!!

I take 30 milligrams of Prevacid every single day and have taken it for nearly 9 years to control the GERD symptoms. I have always had the tenderness in the center of my chest as well. No doctor has ever been able to connect it with the GERD but it does seem to be more present during a particulary bad episode. I often wonder when my chest is tender like that if it is more tender becasue I'm "testing" its tenderness by pressing it which in turn makes it more tneder and sore.

I had a Barium Swallow, and reflux was found, but no hiatal hernia was found. She prescribed Prevacid, which I have been taking for several months now, and said I should take a Pepcid AC before exercise. This method has been working much better than anything tried before. But I feel like I am completely dependent on the Pepcid for relief (as it gives me far more relief than my rescue inhaler). I'm not sure how much is too much of the Pepcid.

HI, I am a 27 year old female who was diagnosed with gastroparesis and gerd in 2007. I have been on 30mg of Prevacid daily for almost 4 years now and just recently have been having terrible symptoms again with gerd. I saw my GI specialist and he recommended I start taking reglan again because the gastroparesis might be causing the reflux.

I was prescribed drugs to get rid of the infection and Prevacid for the GERD. I took the Prevacide for about a year and do not take it any more. I seem to have a sore throat or kinda of raw feeling and also it gets very dry In my throat most days I do not feel heartburn. I also at times have a hard time swallowing hard food such as dry bread.

I eat lots of carrots (betacarotene), but I did that before the lansaprozole (prevacid). The color definitely changed after the med change. I have gerd and as a result the esophogial ulcer which was biopsied and non-malignant. I have the cough and lately my throat has become very constricted. often feeling like a pill is stuck in there which really *****. Appreciate your relating you're experience.
