Avatar f tn I am taking tagamet otc- Walmart generic brand and for me it is better than the rx ones- But that's just me....
Avatar f tn s what I started taking 4 wks ago because tums would no longer help. The medication your on is the generic form of a name brand OTC meds (I can't remember which one right now). I asked me doctor if that was ok, since my husband takes it too. My doc said it was ok. I would still check, I'm 38wks, and it may be different for different stages of pregnancy and I don't know your dosage. Maybe call your OB and ask. Good luck!! And heartburn is a B!!
Avatar n tn t resolved with over the counter remedies, such as a liquid anti-acid (GI doctor office claims this is better than chewable anti-acids because it coats), OTC strength acid reducing medication, or peptobismol (or generic), as well as giving your stomach a break from aggravating foods (used to be prescribed a 48-72 hour clear liquid diet when I had gastritis if I recall correctly), it's time to take a trip to the doctor.
Avatar n tn Heartburn is common while on tx. OTC drugs like Prilosec and prevacid are ok to take.......... Plus it doesn't matter when you take them, not the same with anti-acid pills...........
Avatar n tn There is much to learn on the internet on - GERD and Arrhythmia - Have you tried Priolsec OTC (generic) or Prevacid?
Avatar n tn I have been taking Prilosec OTC and my Doctor prescribed Nexium. It seems to me that they are the same, with one being extremely cheaper. I am Beginning my fifth month of pregnancy and I would like to know if it is safe to continue taking prilosec otc.
Avatar f tn My cholesterol is still high and she wants to start me on the generic version of Zocor. The concern is that my bp and cholesterol are both high and I am on med for that and they think I could have a heart attack or artery disease . I also have to start on Nexium for GERD and now I Need a scope to go down my throat with a camera to look for ulcers? Any advice on these meds? The irritating part about all of this is that don't eat at Mcdonalds or fast food.
Avatar m tn I figured why waste $125 to have the doc tell me what I knew already - Acid Reflux, take my h2 blocker, watch what I eat and lose weight. I did try switching from my 2x a day generic Pepcid ac to 1 a day Prilosec OTC for 21 days, but didn't get any help from that, even combining Prilosec with Pepcid. Over the next couple of months the pain grew in intensity and duration. I finally made an appointment and saw the doc last week.
Avatar m tn I get bad nausea from some of them .. so may be worth trying another brand and see if it goes away. Just my two cents as a patient ... I take Prevacid w/o a problem that is very pricy vs generic for Prilosec. I'd ask your Dr and see what he/she thinks, too ?
9700808 tn?1405488881 My doc said that taking over the counter meds like prevacid are safe to use. Ive been taking omeprozole (generic prevacid) for almost 2 months now and I never get indigestion anymore.
Avatar m tn Is prevacid an otc item in the US? i work in a pharmacy in canada and its prescription. 15 mg and 30 mg.
Avatar f tn I am aware of Protonix generic Pantoprazole. I have now been advised by a Pharmacist that Prevacid will help me. Will it?? Is this a Beta Blocker only or more? Are there ANY Proton pump Inhibitors out there other than Protonix and generic?. Is there a hospital injection of medicine that can be given? I will anxiously await any and all replys. I am living on Pepcid now with little relief. My Pharmacy puts Protonix at $737. for 180 40mg.tabs of Protonix and $570 for Pantoprazole.
Avatar f tn When I ate carefully and finally stopped Nexium completely (using the OTC antacid only when needed and in small amounts) the PVCs went away completely. I've been free of them for almost two years now.
Avatar f tn m taking the right thing to fight it. Do mastic gum, DGL licorice, slippery elm, and OTC products like Prilosec or Prevacid, etc. cause loose stools? I'm prone to loose stools and don't want the problem to get worse. Thanks for any help and suggestions!
223372 tn?1240920676 I was very restless and anxious and the warnings were to quit it immediately if I experienced those symptoms. So, my OB put me on Prilosec OTC this week----I have read pros and cons on line.....anyone else out there have an opinion?
Avatar n tn Try the OTC prevacid that was just recently released. I used to be on prevacid when it was only available by prescription until my insurance company stopped covering it. I definitely am going to use the OTC version since the Prilosec my insurance co told me to use does absolutely nothing.
Avatar m tn Yeah I have pretty much tried them all! Nothing seems to work. Today for example I took two prevacid, yet at 8:45 I am sitting here with acid in the back of my throat. I have tried all OTC stuff, prevacid, prilosec, and aciphex. I may give nexium a shot because that seems to work the best for some people.
Avatar f tn As the title said, I am a 50 year old healthy female(with normal BMR). I used to have bad heartburn years ago, but was able to treat it with change in diet and prevacid. I actually haven't taken this medication for a few years. Then about a month ago, I started getting heartburn, along with nausea and vomiting. Soon, I also had bitter taste in my mouth. I got prescription for prevacid again from my doc, and I also tried OTC meds(tums, etc), but none of them worked.
Avatar m tn ve seen comments with all kinds of opinions comparing the effectiveness of different forms of Prilosec (generic name omeprazole). But that are usually prescription brand-vs-generic, or OTC (non-prescription) brand-vs-generic. What I am looking for is real-life experiences from people who have moved from PRILOSEC OTC to GENERIC RX OMEPRAZOLE, or vice versa. I've been taking PRILOSEC OTC (non-prescription) for quite awhile, after years on the original prescription brand Prilosec.
Avatar m tn Do not take double the over the counter dose (perscription dose) of any of these medications without first consulting your doctor. I have found that OTC Prevacid or Prilosec work well.
Avatar f tn I started my pregnancy with acid reflux.
Avatar f tn Is anyone out there taking Teva's version of Nexium? I'm to the point now where I can't get the brand. I was astonished to see that this generic version's co-pay through my insurance is so high! $80 for 90 days. I could understand this price for the brand, but for generic? Anyway, I had tried this version as I had to with my last insurance, it and I didn't do as well on it. I tried it for a week. I an wondering if it was just my imagination.
Avatar f tn actually medicaid will pay for protonix or a generic version of it...I had gotten it filled three X just recently.
Avatar f tn Until two days ago, I had been taking Prilosec OTC, 40 mgs. daily. I'm now taking the generic Omeprazole capsules, prescription. I switched to the generic version because it's covered by my insurance and it's a lot cheaper. I was told both meds were the same. However, after taking the generic Omep. capsules, I got bad side effects. I've never had any side effects from the Prilosec OTC. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a significant difference in the two.
