168348 tn?1379357075 Thanks Cheryl! The baby is due in 2 months exactly from today! It's funny how I watch for the littlest signs that this one could have reflux as well. I remember with my younger daughter (she has severe reflux) she would hiccup a TON in the womb, round the clock, and would keep me up at night. This baby doesn't do that. She does it once in a while but not like my youngest daughter did. She started refluxing day 1 in the hospital, so I'll definitely be watching for reflux in this one!
1448936 tn?1363206346 Yes, this can all be due to GERD/acid reflux. Acid reflux can be surprisingly annoying and I hope you find something that works well for you soon.
Avatar m tn My 4-month old daughter has acid reflux. She was prescribed Prevacid three weeks ago as she was still irritable after 4-6 weeks of Zantac. After she started Prevacid she was less irritable but developed side-effects including giving up napping during the day and green, mucus-like foul smelling stool (started this week). Oh yeah, she also has a milk protein based sensitivity. My wife is still nursing but has given up all dairy and dairy-like foods.
Avatar f tn Hi. I take Prevacid, which is a little pricey, even with insurance. However, there is another one, Aciphex, which was about 30 dollars cheaper. I am back on the Prevacid as the Aciphex didn't work as well ( for me...I was on Prevacid for years and only switched because of the cost...65 dollars). You may want to ask about that. Also, I was told my pharmacist that otc prilosic works well too.
296025 tn?1233256719 Prevacid is a Protein Pump Inhibitor (PPI) like Aciphex, Nexium and Prilosec. It's indicated for GERD (chronic acid reflux) and as far as I know has nothing to do with treating Hep C, other than if you happen to have GERD. I believe Prilosec is a generic sold OTC but not 100% sure so speak to your doctor and pharmacist regarding switching off.

Avatar n tn ) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid. While we noticed an decrease in symptoms for the first 3 weeks, this past week they have comeback with avengeance, along with anxiety, tearfulness, and a general "mopy-ness". We are upping his Prevacid to 30 mg. If there is no improvement we go back to the GI Doc next week. Any advice? Anyone been through anything like this? Thanks.
1361044 tn?1277598308 Honestly, in my opinion, babies are so wrapped up in this new world, all the new things going in for them, that a little cold (virus) hardly slows them down. it could be your baby is behind because she doesn't feel well all the time, and THAT is holding her back. Maybe not, but in either case I would push for them to figure it out. Chalking it all down to a virus is a lazy, sorry excuse. My point is, YOU DO know your child more than anyone.
Avatar n tn hope it was decaffeinated as caffeine and chocolate are huge triggers for acid reflux! Have they tried any acid blockers vs. supressors which will help to heal any damage done by yrs of this acid ? Just a thought .. I am not a med person at all but my children have suffered from the classic type of severe GERD. Have they ever tried Carafate to coat/heal the esphogus and that may help with the swallowing?
547002 tn?1219797376 I quit prevacid on many occasions cold turkey. It caused massive lower stomach cramps and thick painful diarrhea. I recommend you get off it immediately, however, slowly ween yourself off. DO NOT quit cold turkey. Get on Zantac. PPI's truly messed me up. Made me 1000 times sicker than my GERD. Now I've been off them for 6 months and live a normal healthy life. Those are poison. Doctors will do anything they can to get your money, don't belive the ppi hype.
Avatar n tn her reflux. She also has allergies for which she takes Zyrtec and Nazonex for. Please tell me what is the next step in care?
Avatar f tn Originally, it was started for chronic nasal stuffiness, which the ENT at the time attributed to reflux. No change was noted in her stuffiness with the prevacid, but I did notice a difference in her reflux symptoms so I kept her on it. The stuffiness continues to be a frequent symptom especially at night (sounds as though she is breathing through a partially stuffy nose), but I don't get much of a reaction from her pediatrician.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever tried taking the Prevacid at night or in the middle of the night( 4 hrs prior to Synthroid) so that it is working when I do put food into my stomach? I just am fearful of interfering with the Synthroid.
Avatar f tn I am almost 11 weeks and I have really bad acid reflux. Has anyone else been prescribed zantac during pregnancy?
171768 tn?1324230099 I think any reflux is bad, not worse or better. It's nice your husband is aware of the meds & is cautious. I know there were a few times our pharmacists thought the doses were high, we went with the Dr. on it, but I always had the RPH check it out & made sure they were okay before we did the meds. We did limited tummy time, Cam would throw up, projectile usually if he was flat so it scared me to put him down anyway.
Avatar f tn he is on keppra and phenobarb, but has also been on prevacid 2x day for the reflux for the last 5 mo. he eats 2nd foods still basically because he has sensory issues. the reflux has defitnately taken its course. my son wont take in the calories that he is supposed to take in. i can try to make him but it normally will make him throw it back up. he only weighs 18 lbs, which is ok .he has never been over 18.5 lbs ever. the ped GI and the ped surgeon want to put a feeding tube in him.
Avatar n tn and in my 30s bile reflux started. There was no temporary relief for bile reflux - there is for acid reflux but not bile reflux. A couple of years ago, out of sheer desperation I tried ice cream. During a bile reflux attack (they're bloody awful) I ate ice cream ... and the last four times in a row it's worked. 1 to 2 cups of ice cream and 20 minutes later I'm completely ok. I don't lie down during an attack ... or after eating ice cream.
Avatar n tn Hi I have had GERD for a few years now. I've never had halitosis. Recently my reflux started acting up, so i doubled my prevacid. I'm not sure what is causing my very horrid halitosis. I have figured out it is not dental related. In fact when I burp, I can feel the hot yucky gas coming up from my stomach. A recent google showed that prevacid can cause a side effect of halitosis. Other comments insist it is the GERD but I am not entirely convinced.
290867 tn?1333569278 the doctor also suggested a small amount of cereal or oatmela depending on whether the baby is pooping ok or constipated because the thincker the forumla, the more ability they have to hold it down. you can look up GERD and acid reflux in infants and many of them talk about a very small amoutn of cereal.
Avatar m tn Hello, There are over the counter medicines BUT if you plan on just taking them a couple of times a month (as needed), then stick with H2 blockers an hour or two before eating something you think might set it off. H2 blockers include: • Axid AR • Pepcid AC • Tagament HB • Zantac PPI's such as Prilosec, Prevacid, Zegerid take days to start working (usually a week). So if you are in a hurry forget these.
Avatar f tn About 2 months ago I started taking Prilosec for reflux. I then began to have a huge increase in the number of PVC's. Sometimes lasting all day. I've been on an event monitor for the past 2 weeks. I didn't even think that to relate this increase in PVC's to the Prilosec until about a week ago. I stopped the Prilosec and lo and behold the PVC's are gone or at least back to the minimal occurance that they were before.
