I have never taken Prevacid before. Are these two the same thing? Can I use Prilosec to substitute the Prevacid in the pack? I'm scared of stopping Prilosec as my symptoms always get worse when I tried to wean myself off the drug in the past. I'm also horrified by the idea of combined antibiotics for extended time. I can barely tolerate a single antibiotic agent for 5d in the past. How much probiotics should I take to counteract the side effects of antibiotics? Thank you!

Do you think that if I was having some bacterial issues would they not have been present back when I began the Prevacid? or do you mean over an extended period of use? (Curious) I'm wondering why the sudden onset of bm issues or feelings that stay with me even though I go? Been going on now 2 1/2 weeks. At least the abdominal pain is subsided. I was reading that Probiotics could be the coulprit. My husband and I took them for a brief time 5 days?

I used ibuprofen pretty often each day for about two weeks for severe pain in my hand and finger joints. I began to have chronic nausea, got off the ibuprofen, started taking Prevacid and Pepcid Complete, then Reglan per doctor's prescription. Bad side effects from Reglan--irritability, dizziness, depression,sleepiness. Got off of it. After about 4 weeks, I still have some nausea and only want to eat starches and sugars. Had gallbladder removed 6 months ago.

Since November? Oh dear, this isn't good. And yes, your gums are irritated from the extended use. I would like to encourage you to stop the lozenge NOW!

With additional advice I decided to stay on the Proton Pump Inhibitor (Omeprazole). It seems that extended use is supposedly not harmful to the body. I take a 20mg tablet daily and I can function fully and eat and drink absolutely anything as long as I have had the capsule. I soon know about it if I forget to take it! That seldom happens I assure you. My question is: I have at least one bowel movement daily - usually after I get up in the morning.

Now there is just no room for my stomach, so he had me switch to prevacid, and I eat bland foods to keep it under control. I never recommend taking anything without asking, though. That way your doctor can explain the risks if there are any.

HELP Please... . Our 7 month old wakes up every 90 minutes due to his silent reflux. The Axid and Prevacid both made his stomach upset worse. So now he's only on Nutramagin formula, rice cereal and fruit. The pediatrician says to make his formula extra thick. His little voice is hoarse all the time. He doesn't have colic. Our lil one is sooo happy until he goes down for a nap or night time sleep. Is there anything else out there? His upper GI was normal.

The dr yesterday put me on nexium for 5 days then will start 30 mg of prevacid which has not helped in the past. I really appreciate any suggestions as I really do not care to have a 4th stay in the hospital this year. Thanks...

I've taken it daily for the past three years. I've read somewhere on the internet that you can't take it for that long at a time; it may cause fundic polyps of the stomach (which I recently had removed during an endoscopy). However my gastro doc claims that it's completely safe to use indefinitely. What is your experience with Prilosec, and do you think it's safe to use indefinitely for GERD?

My doc said that taking over the counter meds like prevacid are safe to use. Ive been taking omeprozole (generic prevacid) for almost 2 months now and I never get indigestion anymore.

I have read a lot and havent found anything to say that prolonged use can cause damage. If you are sore, it is probably just from the extended pressure. How far along are you?? If you are nervous, or feeling unusual pain, you need to see your doctor, just to be safe.

My daughter also takes pentasa and WAS taking prevacid. The prevacid didn't seem to help her and our GI switched her to prilosec. My daughter has had no complaints with the prilosec. Both prevacid and prilosec have the same actions so they do the same things. The only interaction that I know of with prevacid and penicillin is with a type of penicillin called Ampicillin and it may inhibit the absorption of the prevacid.

There is a recent warning put out by the FDA that says that long term use of prevacid can result in low magnesium levels which in turn can result in irregular heartbeats. PLEASE fully discuss the correct use of this med with your doc. As the other poster mentioned, reglan can have some very, very serious drawbacks.

I was diagnosed today with a stomach polyp and told it was most likely a result of long term use of a PPI (in this case Pariet). Does anyone know if benign stomach polyps develop into something nastier, grow bigger, can be reduced by diet, or changing PPI med?? Hi--I recently had an Upper GI for nausea and the test came back normal except for a "small amount" of reflux. I was surprised to hear this since I have never had heart burn in my life, even when I was pregnant. My GP does not want to put me on any medication since she said there are no symptoms to treat. She said to take 2 tums at night since it could do damage to my esophagus when I lay down but other than that I didn't need to take anything.

I get a sore throat from all the drip and can get hoarse too. Doc now has me on 30mg prevacid twice a day. I was having alot of GERD symptoms last week before she put me on the higher dose of prevacid. I feel alot better when it comes to GERD symptoms. but i dont gag, regurgitate or have food go up my nose. I can breathe normally. Have not had any aspiration of food or liquids. Hope its not something deadly.

By February, my stomach started seeming to bloat really bad after meals. I went to see an Urgent Care doctor and they prescribed me with Prevacid, as well as trying to order some xrays, a barium swallow, etc. But I followed up with my primary doctor and she told me that I should just take the Prevacid and not worry about the xrays and such. That acid reflux is "normal" and Prevacid will help it. And it did. Or maybe I was thinking it was. Until I ran out of it about 3 weeks ago.

Try the OTC prevacid that was just recently released. I used to be on prevacid when it was only available by prescription until my insurance company stopped covering it. I definitely am going to use the OTC version since the Prilosec my insurance co told me to use does absolutely nothing.
