s gym. Nexium...I have been on this for 6 years now and the only side effect I have is diarrhea. My gastroenterologist does not seem to be concerned because the Nexium is working for me. Nexium is not suppose to effect the joints. Have your sister talk to her doctor. He may want to do some tests on her knee. It could be other issues.
He was put back on Prevacid and went a week without vomiting until today. The diarrhea is awful. Then 4 days ago my husband come down with some virus thing with vomiting and diarrhea so we wondered if they were related? Who knows...just sent a stool sample to the lab today and the dr wants to start him on flagyl to see if it treats the diarrhea. We can't see a specialist until October and I'm at a loss for answers.
I have uncontrollable Diarrhea. I can go maybe two days with medication such as Imodium and lomotil, and then by the third day I have chronic diarrhea, it will usually last most of the night and day. It is very runny diarrhea, I have to wear depends underwear all the time and sometimes that doesn't even help. The odor of the diarrhea is very bad, and almost like the smell of acid are something. It has become a handicap to me.
My 4-month old daughter has acid reflux. She was prescribed Prevacid three weeks ago as she was still irritable after 4-6 weeks of Zantac. After she started Prevacid she was less irritable but developed side-effects including giving up napping during the day and green, mucus-like foul smelling stool (started this week). Oh yeah, she also has a milk protein based sensitivity. My wife is still nursing but has given up all dairy and dairy-like foods.
Hi, I took the double dose of prevacid and I was fine last night, but woke up this am with bad watery diarrhea and some nausea. I know Prevacid can cause diarrhea, but this is a bad case of it. Think it could be related? Im definitly calling my dr today to set up an appt to discuss,,,,thinking I should stop the double dose until I talk with him.
I was on prevacid for years, my body should be used to it!
By February, my stomach started seeming to bloat really bad after meals. I went to see an Urgent Care doctor and they prescribed me with Prevacid, as well as trying to order some xrays, a barium swallow, etc. But I followed up with my primary doctor and she told me that I should just take the Prevacid and not worry about the xrays and such. That acid reflux is "normal" and Prevacid will help it.
And it did. Or maybe I was thinking it was.
Until I ran out of it about 3 weeks ago.
I have a colicky feeling in my stomach that usually dosnt produce flatus almost always (wheither or not the burping episodes are going on) but other than that, there is no abdominal pain associated except for the vomiting. No diarrhea associated with it. I suppose I should say for the record that I havnt been eating eggs or anything containing eggs or sulfur. My doctor reccomended calcium antacids, which neither prevent or stop it from happening.
this is followed up by Sulfur burps (eggy burps). after about 12 hours comes the extreme pain and cramping and then the diarrhea. and the worse flatulence i have ever heard come out of a human. lately about the last month it has been every other day i have been on prevacid and nausea meds but nothing works all food seems to set it off. i dont know what is going on and it bothers me alot.
I tried to post this a few days ago, and it didn't take, obviously. As of last Monday, I reverted to normal B.M.s. I switched from Prevacid ( a new medicine for my Gerd) back to my generic Prilosec as a last ditch effort to help myself. I immediately got better on Sunday, and by Monday was back to only one diarrahea episode. By Tuesday, I was back to solid BMs. I have GERD really bad, and all the PPIs disagree with my spastic colon and irritate that issuel....
My 13 year old son has been having pretty strong upper abd pain for 6 weeks now with interminent bouts of diarrhea fevers ranging 99-103.6 he has had 2 rashes on his trunk today for the first time vomiting he has been to the dr 4 times and the ER x2 the only test ordered was an ultrasound which was negative bloodwork was done with neutrophils elevated they put him on prevacid and pepcid any ideas?
In fact lately I have diarrhea. But a lot of times even when you have diarrhea only a small part of what is in your intestines is coming out, Your stomach can't empty properly because the intestines are full, and it has nowhere to send the food that it (the stomach) has in it, even after it has been digested by the enzymes and bile. He says Reglan will help the intestinal muscles move the way they need to to empty out the intestines. Hope he is right.
I am however very concerned with my latest side affects of severe abdominal pain especially after eating, vomiting and diarrhea. I have had this for a month and know I am dehydrated as well. I am afraid to eat knowing what will happen, I eat light meals but still have the pain eating at all.

I am a 24 year old female who since I was in high school, I burp every day almost continually. I can suppress to an extent but it makes me uncomfortable, and I cannot stop burping. It only relieves me a tiny bit to burp - it feels like I am never getting the gas out. Luckily, I don't vomit from this but once in a while. I often have diarrhea and almost never am regular or don't feel bloated. . . Mostly the burping drives me crazy. . .
My daughter (age 27) has been on prevacid for quiet some time for indigestion. She had lunch a few days ago and about an hour later began to have diarrhea and vomiting every 10 to 15 minutes for about 6 to 7 hrs accompanied with severe pain on her right side, under her ribs. She spent several hours in an ER and after blood test, ultrasound, iv and medications she was told that everything was fine but to follow up with her doctor the next day.
My daughter also takes pentasa and WAS taking prevacid. The prevacid didn't seem to help her and our GI switched her to prilosec. My daughter has had no complaints with the prilosec. Both prevacid and prilosec have the same actions so they do the same things. The only interaction that I know of with prevacid and penicillin is with a type of penicillin called Ampicillin and it may inhibit the absorption of the prevacid.
By the way, he was diagnosed for the vomiting with Acid Reflux???? Doesn't sound quite right to me, as he still continues to vomit ( with belching & gas) , in the mornings and thus was put on Prevacid. Not sure if it is working yet - its only been 4 days. Also, as far as the diarreah is concerned, gastro told us it was a viral infection and put him on Probiotics twice a day. THAT hasn't worked either!

I can really relate to what you're saying! I too have had GERD for years. That's controlled really well with Prilosec. I had an endoscopy 2/05 that showed an esophageal stricture, dr. stretched it. That really helped the lump in throat feeling but not the terrible upper abdomin pain. It feels like contractions or something. I'd rate it a 12 on 1-10 scale! I can't sit still, have to walk the floor when it hurts. Went to ER with same symptoms 8/07 and ended up removing my GB 9/07.
I am having a problem with taking my Prevacid 4 hrs. after Synthroid. Right now my routine is to take Synthroid when I first get up and 6 AM. an hour later eat something void of fiber (usually egg sub.) The 4 hrs. later I take the Prevacid and have another small meal (cereal usually). The problem is something is causing a bad taste to come back in to my mouth sometime after all this and I am thinking it is because the Prevacid really is not being taken prior to eating.
Hi. 55 yr old female. 3 weeks ago, diarrhea started, about 8 times/day. Finally went to gastro dr. He prescribed flagyl, thinking it was c diff. He ordered lab tests for it. After being very sick for another week while on med, his nurse then admitted she ordered the wrong tests. None for c diff. I was told to go off the flagyl for 3 days, then repeat the lab tests, 3 more times. The first 2 have come back neg., don't know about the 3rd one.
