Avatar f tn Do fractures in bones containing Bone Mets increase the spread of the cancer cells?
Avatar n tn My bone density plummeted from 15% above normal to 25% below normal in 6 years (post menopause). Could Prevacid excellerate bone loss. I don't have many risk factors for osteoporosis, no family history. I take Synthroid, Verapamil, Prevacid. I eat lots of dairy, greens, almonds. I exercise daily. I eat a fairly low carb diet, minimal alcohol, caffeine, and cola. This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn "Stress fractures" are an injury to the bone caused by repetitive strain on the weight bearing bones. They are common in the tibia, tarsals, and metatarsals of the feet. They are one of the most common athletic injuries. They are not related to MS, but could be related to D3, calcium, and/or phosphorus metabolism issues.
Avatar f tn I have personally evaluated patients for osteoporosis with prior overuse pelvic fractures who ultimately had normal bone density on their DXA scan. Stress fractures themselves are not indicative of osteoporosis. Fragility fractures-- which include a fracture of the hip, pelvis, wrist, spine, or shoulder sustained during a fall from standing height-- are concerning for osteoporosis.
1200310 tn?1265322110 Some times a fracture, hairline or not will not be apparent on an x-ray. However as the bone begins to heal itself calcium is deposited along the fracture line and they are more easily seen. Hope this has been helpful.
Avatar f tn Fractures are not a common thing to happen with vaginal births. If a women fractures her ribs it would more likely be caused a big increase in pressure or maybe she has some kind of bone problem. The only other kind of fractures that occur are pelvic or tailbone fractures & that is from the baby being large in size or the women is of small stature.
Avatar f tn My 20 year son has severe chronic bone pain, osteoporosis and has had multiple fractures. We have also had bone biopsy with showed a mineralization defect(focal osteomalacia) and high turn bone turnover but these do not lend themselves to a diagnosis. His blood levels of calcium and vit D are normal. He received a Pamidronate infusion in October 2004 and that is when the pain began. He was completely debilitated at that time as he is now.
Avatar f tn hello doc, i got a fracture of cuboid bone on 28 July. I went to the hospital and they applied a back slab and a POP.. I wants to know approximately in how many months my foot will be alright as it was before?? and in how many months wil i be able to wear my heel shoes??
Avatar f tn My 8 year old son hurt his ankle three weeks ago in a soccer game, after two sets of xrays showing no fractures or obvious growth plate concerns, his orthopedic doctor ordered an MRI. He was diagnosed with a mild bone contusion or bruise. The mri showed no issue with ligaments or tendons and confirmed no fractures or growth plate concerns. He has been in an immobilizing walking brace for two weeks now, going on three.....How long does something like this typically take to heal up in a child?
Avatar n tn Finally, 6 months after the injury, with no signs of "Bridging Bone" my Doctor has recommended surgery. As I was expecting, he is recommending the plate and screws surgery that seems to be the most common. My question now is where to get the bone for the bone graft that will be required. The options the doc gave me are either bone material from a "bone bank" or a bone graft from my own hip. Any thoughts on this? Does anyone know how painful the hip graft would be?
Avatar m tn One begins at the orbital rim around the lefort II line and ends behind the last upper tooth and the other is about 15 mm beside that on the rim. The bone between the fractures is sunken and has been misaligned and is partly behind the nasal bone. The orbital floor is also sunken and the eye is about 3 mm down and 2-3 mm enophthalmos. I have latent strabismus inward on the eye and occational double vision, more when tired.
Avatar f tn Basically, in normal bone bone formation and bone resorption are closely coupled. When the rate of resorption exceeds the rate of formation there is a decrease in bone mass. The amount of bone necessary to mechanically support the skeleton eventually falls below the fracture threshold. There are many degrees of osteoporosis and treatments available. I am not qualified to suggest a specific treatment.
639543 tn?1297027634 I am not a doctor, but when I was watching extreme make over home edition one time there was a little boy who had a rare bone disorder. I think they called it glass bone disease, or brittle bone disease. Brittle bone disease (osteogenesis imperfecta)-What is osteogenesis imperfecta? Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is the most common disease causing fractures in childhood. It also causes fractures in adults.
614689 tn?1225748884 In 2001 I was in a MVA and had compression fractures from C-6 to T-3, but did not choose surgery to treat these. After healing, I still have chronic pain in this area. Also, in Feb. 2006 I had a laminectomy to resect an AVM located within my spinal cord at about the T-12 area. I became disabled after this surgery and lost sensation in my right leg, though I can walk.
Avatar m tn I was told to cut back the Prevacid to once a day. My blood work shows no obvious problems. Has prevacid been linked to Osteoporosis? This discussion is related to Prevacid and Osteoporosis.
Avatar m tn Hi. So, are you talking about 'bent' bones and not fractures? A complete fracture is when a bone breaks all the way through and the other is when it doesn't so the bones 'bend' or look bent. How old are you, if you don't mind me asking and how long has this been an issue that you've noticed? There is a rare disease called 'bent bone dysplasia syndrome' But am guessing you don't have this as it has a host of features and is very serious.
Avatar m tn I sustained four fractures and a dislocated elbow on 7/11/10. Had surgery on 7/15/10 during which a plate, many screws and other assorted pieces of metal were inserted to piece the fractures and dislocated elbow back together. My latest x-ray last Monday seemed to indicate the fractures have healed. The surgeon says "you shouldn't be having pain" but I have pain. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn With stress fractures is the pain usually severe? I am able to walk on the foot, and there's no visible swelling.
Avatar f tn from the xrays i could c dat there were 2 fractures in the distal phalanx. 1 was right beneath the fingernail n somewhere near my DIP. there was a bone fragment near the DIP n i was told that it was due to a nerve being damaged. my 2nd metacarpal was fractured n twisted. on 2/01/11 had my surgery.doctor put a hook near the DIP n wires for the metacarpal. hand was heavily bandaged in a pointing position.
Avatar f tn Heel bone fractures are not so common and usually take place during more serious accidents like car accidents, falls from higher levels to hard surfaces, a significant ankle twisting injury during sports etc. It sounds more like an injury to soft tissues of the surrounding muscles, tendons and/or connective tissues. A heel bone fracture would be accompanied by almost intolerable pain and even taking a brief walk would be unthinkable.
1586950 tn?1296881289 I had basically same injury and after 5 months my fibula had not healed so I had a bone graft done.-This is where they take some bone from your hip to put in fibula with some more hardware. I have heard so many takes on fibula fractures-leave them,& even have it removed all together! My take on it is to be put back together as close as new as one can. Good luck to you!
