Last week I was diagnosed with a duodenal ulcer and am taking Amoxicillin, Biaxin and Prevacid. I am one week into treatment and feel only marginally better.
My question is about stomach tenderness. Is a tender stomach normal with a peptic ulcer? My entire stomach area, from just below my breasts, down to my navel, is very tender to the touch. When touched it produces like a burning/stinging/bruised feeling. Depending on the day, or time of the day, the pain is greater or less.
I was diagnosed with a duodenal ulcer and have finished my course of antibiotics, however I'm still on Prevacid. I developed a rash on my forehead about two days into treatment, and it's still there. I thought at first it was the Amoxicillin, but I finished that about a week ago, and the rash is still there. Could the rash be from Prevacid?
Yes, a hiatal hernia can mimic a heart attack and give you chest pain. That is why your stress test, echo and EKG are fine...and also, why you have been prescribed Prevacid, which is a drug that reduces stomach acid.

I started taking prevacid a few weeks ago for an esophogial ulcer (non-malignant), I had stomach aches for on about day four or five that went away. My heart burn and pain in my sides is gone. My stools went from normal to yellow and remain that way. I contacted my doctor who acted like I was worrying too much and said this is normal because my food is going through me quicker then pre-previc acid.
The doctor told me I had to quit smoking because nicotine, a drug, activates the acid pumps in my stomach lining and would irritate my ulcer.
It appears that maybe the lack of nicotine has caused some change in your stomach.
Ten years ago, I developed a second ulcer, and I have taken one OTC Prilosec a day for 10 years with no problem. Why not try an experiment and take one Prilosec or Prevacid a day for 4 days to learn whether your heartburn has stopped?
Hi I am a 29 years old male, been healthy all my life.
I don't drink but I do smoke, like 7-8 cigarettes per day, sometimes less.
About 2 months ago I started having stomach cramping and chest pain. When it started it hurts so bad I couldn't even eat. After a few days I went to the doctor and he prescribe me a H2 blocker (forgot name sorry).
I strongly suspect an ulcer or severe gastritis ( I already had some gastritis which was asymptomatic, but had been revealed on endoscope a couple years back)
I am down to rice and oatmeal and some beans. Most other foods make me intense feel queasy and like throwing up - until it passes which takes about 3 hrs.
Have I become allergic to everything, or when my ulcers heal is this likely to go away?
Is this something that commonly happens when a person developes nsaid induced ulcers?
Does the pain get worse after you eat? It sounds like you have some of the symptoms of a duodenal ulcer. Try over the counter Prevacid or Prilosec, then also, make an appointment with a Gastroenterologist. I had some of the same symptoms and went to a Gastroenterologist and had an EGD (endoscopy) where a scope was used to look at my stomach to see what was going on and it was as I expected...an ulcer. You may need to have the same test...don't worry you'll be sedated.
I am currently on rabeprazole for a duodenial ulcer. Not working. I used to be on Prevacid for excess stomach acid, but stopped using it when I went on the rabeprazole. I have an appt. on Monday with Dr. and hope he can find a solution.
In the meantime I am unable to eat and see no relief in site. Any suggestions? I am losing my mind !!
My daughter also takes pentasa and WAS taking prevacid. The prevacid didn't seem to help her and our GI switched her to prilosec. My daughter has had no complaints with the prilosec. Both prevacid and prilosec have the same actions so they do the same things. The only interaction that I know of with prevacid and penicillin is with a type of penicillin called Ampicillin and it may inhibit the absorption of the prevacid.
I finally went to my primary care physician in June of this year and he ordered an upper gi,an ultrasound of my gall bladder and prescribed prevacid 30 mg and told me to start taking 2 a day. Results: duodenal ulcer, 1cm, acid reflux, and a blood test showed that I was positive for H-pylori, he sent me to a gastroenterologist.
Figuring it to be exhaustion I put up with it for a week. When the symptoms persisted I called the doc. His review was a peptic ulcer and prescribed 30mg of Prevacid along with 1g of Amoxil and Biaxin (not sure of amount). Since then, I have nausea in the morning upon waking even after eating and taking the pills. In the afternoon I start to cough and get a taste of mucus or bile.
I am too young to have these problems. Please help or advise anyway you can.
My daughter had similar symptoms, and thought it was an ulcer. An endoscopy during an "attack" showed no evidence of an ulcer. Turned out to be gluten intolerance. Do you also have bloating and extreme pain in the stomach area? She has cut out all gluten: not just from wheat, but barley, beer, soy sauce, oats, rye--of course all breads, pizza, pastries, etc. Gluten is also sometimes a hidden ingredient in processed foods.
Last night i developed a sore throat that continued today, i also am sick to my stomach although i can eat and drink, i have attacks where i feel like throwing up. Ive been taking Prevacid for about two weeks for what may be an ulcer, ulcerative colitis, or ceoliac spore. I don't feel weak like i usually do when I'm sick, I believe it may be a side effect of the medicine. Should i seek medical help or stop taking the medicine? or should i continue doing what ive been doing?
t do it cause I have a 9 month old consists of 2 antibiotics either amoxicillin and erythromycin or tetracycline and flagyl .. and a proton pump inhibitor prilosec . I took it for 4 days and had horrible vomiting and diarrhea and stopped the treatment . now I am on prilosec which doesn't make it worse it blocks the acid in your stomach which h pylori thrives in acidic environments ..
For several years now I have had very severe hunger pains. They come and go but lately they have been more severe and stay longer. Sometimes more than two weeks. Food intake usually stops the pain for a while, but I cannot continue to eat six or more times a day. Weight gain is a real issue. Sometimes food makes it worse. Not often. This morning it awoke me from a dead sleep at 2:00 am, even though I had eaten prior to going to sleep at 11.
