Prevacid and reglan

Common Questions and Answers about Prevacid and reglan

prevacid

Avatar f tn However, I am aware of the dangerous side effects of reglan and am wondering if I continue to take the prevacid daily without reglan, could I still develop Barretts esophagus if the prevacid is stopping all the acid production in my stomach?
Avatar f tn Mtgoat, I really hesitate to say this but reglan is not a replacement for any PPI. It's a pro-motility drug and it needs to be taken in a specific manner and it cannot be continued for long periods of time. PLEASE fully discuss the correct use of this med with your doc. As the other poster mentioned, reglan can have some very, very serious drawbacks.
Avatar f tn I used ibuprofen pretty often each day for about two weeks for severe pain in my hand and finger joints. I began to have chronic nausea, got off the ibuprofen, started taking Prevacid and Pepcid Complete, then Reglan per doctor's prescription. Bad side effects from Reglan--irritability, dizziness, depression, sleepiness. Got off of it. After about 4 weeks, I still have some nausea and only want to eat starches and sugars. Had gallbladder removed 6 months ago.
Avatar f tn I was on 10mg of prozac up until the day of the test for one week only and I take prevacid everyday and reglan PRN. I took 5 mg of reglan 2.5 hours before the test. I feel awful dizzy, nauseous, no appetite etc. My ears feel all plugged up. I am waiting to get an appt with an endocrinologist. I had a brain MRI 4.5 years abo that was normal but said my pituitary was slightly prominant. I started to get hot flashed while on the prozac. Could all my medication have caused this?
900434 tn?1241971535 They had done an entire work upon me but they determined that she was allergic to my breastmilk and that was a relief to me. They sent her home on Reglan and Prevacid bur the vomiting never stopped. Since the first time she was hospitalized until now it has never stopped, it just got worse.I talked to the GI doctor and he said he is going to see what tests he can redo from the first time she was in the hospital since she is showing new symptoms.
223372 tn?1240920676 At 18.5 weeks my heartburn is not getting better---I've had it since four weeks! The heartburn is what makes me throw up almost nightly. I was put on the Rx Reglan and it made me "nutty." I was very restless and anxious and the warnings were to quit it immediately if I experienced those symptoms. So, my OB put me on Prilosec OTC this week----I have read pros and cons on line.....anyone else out there have an opinion?
Avatar n tn My doctor seems pretty sure that its just the acid reflux, and I have been taking Prevacid and Ranitadine. So far it doesn't seem to be helping much. I have heartburn less then I did, but the nausea isn't any better. I just had my son a few months ago, and the nausea was so bad with him, that I lost 30lbs throughout the pregnancy. I had to take Zofran to be able to stop vomiting. I was told it would go away after I gave birth, and it did ease off for a while.
Avatar f tn It depends on what medication he's on. My son who has Severe GER is on Reglan and Prevacid. They both cause constipation so if he's on those medications I would look them up and see if thats a side effect. As for the vommiting. Are you taking the precations for GER? Like sitting up during feedings, and 30 min after. Never lying him down. Burping every 1/2 an ounce and thickning formula? If so then I would definitly take him back to the G.I. doctor.
Avatar f tn I told him about my history and he suggested it was either Galbladder or Gastroperesis. He gave me an IV of Reglan and I got better and begin once again taking the Reglan. I was Ok till about the first of January and a week ago I had to go to the afterhours walk in clinic because I had another migraine/regurgitation spell. I switched my meds to Zegrid because I've noticed when I switch brands I seem to get some relief.
Avatar f tn IF you were my patient, I would offer you a couple of different options--I think that Zofran works really well for nausea during pregnancy. Sometimes Reglan can be helpful. Also, Prevacid or Prilosec can sometimes make a difference. Ginger--such as ginger pops, and vitamin B6 are also good possibilities. Hope something here is helpful! I would also consider checking your liver function enzymes too!
Avatar n tn one day he started vomiting and having the shakes and he went to a hospital and they said he has gastroparesis and put him on reglan but he still has times where he throws up and cant stop so we arnt sure what is wrong with him and the doctors just keep sending him home when he stops vomiting but then like a week later hes having problems again.
662972 tn?1270166301 Mr Lucky66 I am on 95mg methadone and it burns a lot and mornings it sick to throw up point and if I do feel fine all I throw up is acid like stuff.
Avatar f tn He has been given prescriptions to bind up the bile and to coat the stomach none seem to make a difference. He did undergo chemo and radiation back in October and November but due to his vomiting and nausea he has been unable to continue treatments. Fortunately his cancer count has been falling and there has been no sign of tumors or metastisizing since. Sorry for the spelling. Your direction would be deeply appreciated. There are days he just wants to give up and feels hopeless.
Avatar n tn My daughter also takes pentasa and WAS taking prevacid. The prevacid didn't seem to help her and our GI switched her to prilosec. My daughter has had no complaints with the prilosec. Both prevacid and prilosec have the same actions so they do the same things. The only interaction that I know of with prevacid and penicillin is with a type of penicillin called Ampicillin and it may inhibit the absorption of the prevacid.
Avatar n tn I took Reglan for many years, and although it did help with the reflux, it is NOT a cure. And yes, it does have many side-effects. I had to stop taking it because it was causing severe muscle spams and twitching.
5787844 tn?1376078984 I've had horrible heartburn with all 3 of my pregnancies and all of my babiea were extremely hairy. Currently I'm taking prevacid in the morning and then zantac 150 2x a day and still eat the smoothie tums and alka seltzer. My ob said next appt if no better she will prescribe me something. I go back the 26th and am seriously counting down the days so I feel ya. I wake up with it when I haven't ate or drank all night. Good luck.
Avatar m tn i have a history of gerd and barrett's esophagus and 4 years ago degenerative disc disease in the lumbar spine.i would also like to quit smoking.before i turn 50 in january.i am 6'4" and weigh 250 lbs so the county hospital doctor where i recieve my care wants me to lose 30 something lbs and so far i have gained weight. sooo..... i would like to go on a juice fast. 30 years or so in the past i used to do these with excellent results but back then i wasnt taking prevacid.
Avatar n tn She also was experiencing right lower and and right back back pain. She had her gallbladder and appendix out when she was 12 (the gallbladder had over 100 stones in it). She was released from the hopital three days ago with the diagnoses of yeast and bacterial vaginosis,a bladder infection due to an overgrowth of lactobacillis and GASTRITUS. she was put on pepsid (taken off the prevacid she has been on for 10 years due to a slight case of stomach gastritis) and they started her on carafate.
Avatar n tn ) After my initial post I had additional symptoms (vomiting bile and vomiting blood). My family doc put me on 60 mg of prevacid and prescribed reglan - which I haven't yet tried because I'm not that convinced of her expertise or the "guess" that it was a motility problem. She did help me in the most important way, however, by referring me to a specialist. I have an endoscopy scheduled for next week.
Avatar m tn diazepam, amitriptyline, nortriptylene, baclofen, and reglan. antibiotics, probiotics, nothing has seemed to help. I am fairly convinced these are esophageal spasms wonder why we haven’t tried Muscle-relaxing drugs including nitrate medications, such as isosorbide (Isordil), nifedipine (Procardia), diltiazem (Cardizem, Tiazac, others) or dicyclomine (Bentyl). I also wonder about Hyoscyamine Sulfate and what about this Heller Myotomy surgery (I’m desperate).
Avatar n tn My sister was on reglan for six months and started to develop depression and anxiety. She has struggled with this for almost a year now. She is on antidepressants and medication for anxiety. Has anyone found any medications or treatments that have helped. It seems to be uncharted territory and some of the journals I have read have indicated that what works on "traditional" depression and anxiety may not work on the reglan-induced problems.
Avatar f tn High doses or long-term use of metoclopramide may cause tremors or other uncontrollable muscle movements, especially in older women. Stop using Reglan and call your doctor at once if you have tremors or uncontrolled muscle movements, fever, stiff muscles, confusion, sweating, fast or uneven heartbeats, rapid breathing, depressed mood, thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself, hallucinations, anxiety, agitation, seizure, or jaundice (yellowing of your skin or eyes).
Avatar n tn Our 16 year old daughter has been experiencing heart burn/GERD now for almost a year ... she has had endoscopy, upper GI, stomach emptying test. She is on Reglan and Prevacid twice a day. She still gets heart burn when running (she runs cross country) and that is running on an empty stomach. It seems as if we're overlooking something simple - she eats small, frequent meals, avoids the usual fatty, spicy foods, no caffeine, limited chocolate.
Avatar f tn I have found it easy to cope with by using medications (I am on reglan, but will soon switch to domperidone, and I also take prevacid) and changing my diet. The things to do to help it are to 1) eat a diet that is low in fiber and low in fat, 2) eat smaller more frequent meals, 3) try a medicine like reglan or domperidone or others, 4) try medicines that help reflux, and 5) if all else fails the a stomach pacemaker can be implanted.
296025 tn?1233256719 Prevacid is a Protein Pump Inhibitor (PPI) like Aciphex, Nexium and Prilosec. It's indicated for GERD (chronic acid reflux) and as far as I know has nothing to do with treating Hep C, other than if you happen to have GERD. I believe Prilosec is a generic sold OTC but not 100% sure so speak to your doctor and pharmacist regarding switching off.
Avatar n tn i take prevacid for my gerd, can this cause atrial fibrillation This discussion is related to acid reflux.
