Common Questions and Answers about Prevacid and pneumonia

prevacid

Avatar n tn Meanwhile, her ribs ache, she has no appetite due to stomach pain (taking prevacid for possible acid reflux), and irritation in her throat b/c of the barking, dry cough. The doctors recommended a psychological evaluation, which my daughter is totally against -- she can feel that the cough caused by something physical. Is it possible that the onset of puberty has anything to do with this -- physically or emotionally?
Avatar n tn My daughter also takes pentasa and WAS taking prevacid. The prevacid didn't seem to help her and our GI switched her to prilosec. My daughter has had no complaints with the prilosec. Both prevacid and prilosec have the same actions so they do the same things. The only interaction that I know of with prevacid and penicillin is with a type of penicillin called Ampicillin and it may inhibit the absorption of the prevacid.
1538185 tn?1292723992 I agree with the previous poster, can I also mention how important even though hard, it is to get up and move about as much as possible....laying in bed will worsen the fluid and mucous build up....and can lead to pneumonia if not careful. Also a green color can(does) indicate infection....very important to get this checked out asap.
1516809 tn?1345082764 She felt that the X-Ray will probably show nothing. I also asked about the correlation between GERD and COPD, and she stated that we could try giving my mother some Prevacid to see if it helps. The coughing for my 87 year old mother is exhausting, and with Alzheimer's, she does not always know to expel the mucus. In essence, the doctor thinks this issue is seasonal, and the sounds an coughing are typical of COPD. Opinions?
296025 tn?1233256719 Prevacid is a Protein Pump Inhibitor (PPI) like Aciphex, Nexium and Prilosec. It's indicated for GERD (chronic acid reflux) and as far as I know has nothing to do with treating Hep C, other than if you happen to have GERD. I believe Prilosec is a generic sold OTC but not 100% sure so speak to your doctor and pharmacist regarding switching off.
Avatar n tn i take prevacid for my gerd, can this cause atrial fibrillation This discussion is related to acid reflux.
547002 tn?1219797376 In July i was having some swallowing problems or thought i was and they did an EGD and found nothing but a VERY tiny hiatal hernia. My stomach lining was nice and pink. I had been taking prevacid for two weeks prior to the EGD due to the trouble swallowing NOW i want to stop taking the prevacid and every time i try i get really sick. I get weak, nauseaus and for a day or two i literally go to the bathroom constantly and have loose yellow stools with stomach cramps.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with a duodenal ulcer and have finished my course of antibiotics, however I'm still on Prevacid. I developed a rash on my forehead about two days into treatment, and it's still there. I thought at first it was the Amoxicillin, but I finished that about a week ago, and the rash is still there. Could the rash be from Prevacid?
Avatar n tn Is it safe to take 60mg of prevacid in the morning and 20 mg of prilosec in the evening?
Avatar n tn Saw GI MD 3 days ago who put me on prevacid 30mg 2x a day and pepcid 40mg at bed time for 6 weeks. Does this sound reasonable? I get concerned re the medications and side effects. Would there be any by taking both? I am also on aspirin, lipitor and synthroid.
Avatar f tn That is interesting because I was taking Prevacid and also noticed an increase in PAC's. Its still to early for me to tell if that was the culprit because my Palps have a mind of their own and can last as long as a week at times. For now though I have stopped the Prevacid to see if that helps. I also take fish oil which I've heard can help palps but I've also read that they can worsen them, who knows? Keep us posted!
Avatar m tn I had a Barium Swallow, and reflux was found, but no hiatal hernia was found. She prescribed Prevacid, which I have been taking for several months now, and said I should take a Pepcid AC before exercise. This method has been working much better than anything tried before. But I feel like I am completely dependent on the Pepcid for relief (as it gives me far more relief than my rescue inhaler). I'm not sure how much is too much of the Pepcid.
Avatar n tn Often children who have reflux tend to get ear infections and even bacterial pneumonia. There are other indicators, but it is a start. This site gives a pretty good description and how they can diagnose. I hope the doctors can help you. Being a good advocate for our children is often hard, but so important!!!
Avatar f tn HI, I am a 27 year old female who was diagnosed with gastroparesis and gerd in 2007. I have been on 30mg of Prevacid daily for almost 4 years now and just recently have been having terrible symptoms again with gerd. I saw my GI specialist and he recommended I start taking reglan again because the gastroparesis might be causing the reflux.
Avatar m tn Well I went to the doctor today and she said it was most likely my asthma acting up and prescribed an inhaler. Also, Prevacid for my gerd/indigestion problems. Hopefully there is no infection and it is just asthma. Do you know how long it takes for the inhaler to start working because it's been a few hours and i still can't really breathe any better. I have an appt with the g.i doctor in 2 weeks (that was the soonest appt!! -_-) to see about if h.
Avatar f tn I take Prevacid and my family doc says it quiets the vagus nerve. Avoid spicy foods, try to have regular bm's. Maybe a stool softener would help or anything that keeps things moving. Anything that affects my digestive system affects my heart and produces irregular beats.
Avatar f tn Last week I was diagnosed with a duodenal ulcer and am taking Amoxicillin, Biaxin and Prevacid. I am one week into treatment and feel only marginally better. My question is about stomach tenderness. Is a tender stomach normal with a peptic ulcer? My entire stomach area, from just below my breasts, down to my navel, is very tender to the touch. When touched it produces like a burning/stinging/bruised feeling. Depending on the day, or time of the day, the pain is greater or less.
Avatar f tn (i had two different doctor check up before having all the test) and when im dont on my 14 days drinking prevacid its never been severe and not everyday pain. so i decided not to go back.. after 3 weeks i have all the pain again... especially if i eat something like coffee or tea. and i try to drink prevacid to help the pain and it work out after 30 minutes. i would like to know what the best thing to do and what are the food i should be concious of eating..
Avatar f tn ve never tried Domperidone, but the only meds that helped me were Nexium or Kapidex taken twice daily. I tried prevacid and it was very brief because it just didn't work for me :( Also, I use to take one Kapidex/Nexium PLUS some Amitriplyn, but I knocked the amitriplyn out of my regimen. Either way, it offered more good days then bad.
Avatar n tn t a specific diagnosis of what caused the pneumonia. Most pneumonia is infectious, and is most times caused by strep bacteria, so they throw antibiotics at it, and see how the patient responds, there are more aggressive atypical bacterial pneumonia that may require more aggressive treatment, also a persons age, and strength of their immune system is a major factor as well. But there are also viral, fungal, or less commonly parasitic causes of pneumonia.
Avatar n tn Hi Head ache is one of the commonly reported side effect of PPIs. Rashes can also occur. Regarding the relief from symptoms, you need certain life style modifications in addition to taking PPI for complete relief. . Life style modifications - 1. Head elevation while sleeping 2. Small frequent meals 3. Going to bed 2- 3 hours after food 4. Avoiding bed time snacks 5. Avoiding smoking and alcohol 6. Avoiding tight fitting clothes 7.
Avatar f tn t a lot of room with everything pushing up. I take Prevacid 30 mg. in the morning and it seems to quiet things down. The last time I was having problems, I had gone off the Prevacid. I don't know if it's okay during pregnancy, but it might be worth discussing with your doctor. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Thank you very much Wuztoo for the information and reassurance. I am relieved! Visiting US at the moment so can rest easy. Thanks again!
1569985 tn?1328247482 I am going to try to get off this med because it has other side effects such as worsening osteoporis and making one susceptible to pneumonia. It boggles the mind to think my heart issues might be linked to this drug. If anyone has any input, I'd appreciate it.
