296025 tn?1233256719 Prevacid is a Protein Pump Inhibitor (PPI) like Aciphex, Nexium and Prilosec. It's indicated for GERD (chronic acid reflux) and as far as I know has nothing to do with treating Hep C, other than if you happen to have GERD. I believe Prilosec is a generic sold OTC but not 100% sure so speak to your doctor and pharmacist regarding switching off.
Avatar n tn Have you been tested for H. pylori? If you haven't, do so as the presence of the bacteria is suggested to contribute to bad breath.
Avatar n tn He had such a bad day yesterday that I stopped the Prevacid dosage last night just to see what would happen. I gave him some infant tylenol this morning (no Prevacid) and he drank 4ozs, which is more than half of what he had yesterday the entire day. Any help or suggestions would be great. This has been the hardest thing I have ever gone through. My son is in extreme pain and discomfort. He screams and cries during every feeding all day long.
Avatar n tn i take prevacid for my gerd, can this cause atrial fibrillation This discussion is related to acid reflux.
Avatar n tn My cardiologist tells me that my heart arrhythmias are triggered by the fact that I have GERD and a large hiatal hernia. My G.P. now wants me to see a surgeon about a procedure to repair the hernia and wrap part of the stomach thus preventing reflux. I have heard conflicting reports about the success of this type of surgery. I am 83 and have none of the classic GERD symptoms, just the arrhythmia.
Avatar m tn I had a Barium Swallow, and reflux was found, but no hiatal hernia was found. She prescribed Prevacid, which I have been taking for several months now, and said I should take a Pepcid AC before exercise. This method has been working much better than anything tried before. But I feel like I am completely dependent on the Pepcid for relief (as it gives me far more relief than my rescue inhaler). I'm not sure how much is too much of the Pepcid.
Avatar f tn My daughter is still playing catch up with weight and height because her doctor did not manage her GERD and associated difficulties as best they could when she was an infant. Hang in there, I personally know how rough it can be to have a GERDling.
Avatar f tn HI, I am a 27 year old female who was diagnosed with gastroparesis and gerd in 2007. I have been on 30mg of Prevacid daily for almost 4 years now and just recently have been having terrible symptoms again with gerd. I saw my GI specialist and he recommended I start taking reglan again because the gastroparesis might be causing the reflux.
Avatar m tn I eat lots of carrots (betacarotene), but I did that before the lansaprozole (prevacid). The color definitely changed after the med change. I have gerd and as a result the esophogial ulcer which was biopsied and non-malignant. I have the cough and lately my throat has become very constricted. often feeling like a pill is stuck in there which really *****. Appreciate your relating you're experience.
Avatar m tn The Prevacid seemed to make the GERD much much worse, and now the Prevacid seems to be doing nothing at all. I have terrible GERD. It affects me every day, all the time. What happens is, normally, my breath will be labored (being overweight doesn't exactly help the situation) my chest will feel very full, my heart will race for no reason at all during different times of the day. It flares up terrible after meals, even if they aren't heavy.
Avatar n tn I am a 55yo female and have had gerd for many years, Had an endoscopy last year with sl esophagitis at lower end near stomach. I continue to have symptoms especially at night. Have been on multiple ppi's.Have been on prevacid 30mg daily recently without effect on night time acid. Saw GI MD 3 days ago who put me on prevacid 30mg 2x a day and pepcid 40mg at bed time for 6 weeks. Does this sound reasonable? I get concerned re the medications and side effects. Would there be any by taking both?
Avatar n tn Started Prevacid and also Strattera for ADD. We were able to wean off of the Prevacid and just stick to Strattera, as our peds thinks the Strattera helps him with the anxiety related to the GERD, and therefore he had no complaints of symptoms of GERD. In March we went off of the Strattera, and within 4 weeks the symptoms of GERD re-appeared ( Not eating, coughing, feeling like something is caught in his throat.) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid.
Avatar m tn Protonix and Nexium did NOTHING for me, nor did Aciphex. Prevacid works OK, and my doc suggested Kapidex and I took it for a month. I did about as well on it as the Prevacid if not a tad better. I think Prevacid and/or Kapidex blow away Nexium; although what may be right for me will not be guaranteed for you. My doc gave me a 3 week free-sample of Kapidex, and you take it once a day. I'm always open to trying something new.
Avatar m tn Does anyone else get epigastric pain with exercise, and shortness of breath due to GERD? My physician and I have exhausted all other options, so it seems my exercise intolerance is due to my GERD. I have had a PH study which came back pretty nasty, and the GI doc recommended a Nissen, and now my personal doc is as well. However, I want to be completely sure GERD is causing these problems before I go down this road. Any advice?
Avatar f tn U will also have to modify ur diet and lifestyle and exercise....meds alone can not help this condition and if u have stress u will have to try to do things to relax. In lifestyle tips, it is suggested u elevate the head of ur bed to have gravity help keep the acids down where they belong and out of ur mouth and throat. See the health pages for foods that are safe and which ones to avoid- http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/list?
Avatar m tn I also have gerd and take prevacid. I find it took some time to work and that staying away from the foods to be avoided makes a huge difference. It's incredible how uncomfortable the gerd can be untreated. http://gerd.emedtv.com/gerd/gerd-foods-to-avoid.html "If you have GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disorder), you may be put on a special diet.
1295419 tn?1276822872 Hi--I recently had an Upper GI for nausea and the test came back normal except for a "small amount" of reflux. I was surprised to hear this since I have never had heart burn in my life, even when I was pregnant. My GP does not want to put me on any medication since she said there are no symptoms to treat. She said to take 2 tums at night since it could do damage to my esophagus when I lay down but other than that I didn't need to take anything.
547002 tn?1219797376 In July i was having some swallowing problems or thought i was and they did an EGD and found nothing but a VERY tiny hiatal hernia. My stomach lining was nice and pink. I had been taking prevacid for two weeks prior to the EGD due to the trouble swallowing NOW i want to stop taking the prevacid and every time i try i get really sick. I get weak, nauseaus and for a day or two i literally go to the bathroom constantly and have loose yellow stools with stomach cramps.
Avatar m tn I just started taking 30 mg of Lansoprazole a day for gerd. Does anyone know if the Prevacid (lansoprozole) prevents absorption of the the drugs. I asked my GI doctor and he said he didn't think there were issues of that sort, but he wasn't sure. appreciate any advice!
Avatar f tn The Prevacid may not be working as good as you believe. Here's my suspicion: You may already have low acid levels, w/o taking Prevacid. The main cause of the GERD, Erosive Esophagitis or related condition is mainly LOW acid levels, which cause intra-abdominal pressure increase, pushing the lower esophageal sphincter to open and allow gastric acid to enter the esophagus.
Avatar m tn My Dr prescribed prevacid and that has successfully treated the symptoms. Ive been taking about 1 pill a day and symptoms return promptly if I forget to take a dose. Recently I ran out of prevacid on a vacation and I used acid reducer tablets which did not do as good of a job treating the symptoms. I went about 5 days without prevacid. The next week (after being back on prevacid for a day) I started experiencing a tightness in my chest right below my sternum when I exercised.
Avatar m tn I have never had any issues whatsoever with glutten intolerance so I was skeptical but thought what the heck and gave it a try. After 6 months I now have zero GERD issues too - no heartburn, sore throat, indigestion, etc. I can eat foods that were a sure trigger like tomatoe based sauces with zero symptoms (use spaghetti squash instead of pasta)! Plus, I lost 8 lbs in 2 weeks without even trying.
Avatar n tn i had blood work done and now my cholesterol is 160 without any changes except for the Prevacid. Can Prevacid lower cholesterol ? I was worried because I have read that an unexplained drop in cholesterol could mean cancer someplace.
175861 tn?1428182413 I have GERD and have had it done 2 times. I was on Prevacid and have been for years. I recently switched to acidphex due to the high cost of the Prevacid. It seems to work the same. I do not know any holistic remedys as I have never try. When mine acts up, I get nauseaus bad... and feel sick to my stomach all the time.
Avatar m tn After discovering what my food sensitivities are through an elimination diet, I no longer take medication for my GERD, and I have GERD pretty bad. It turned out that the reflux was definitely caused by food sensitivities in my case and is probably the case for many other people, too. Improving the diet helped with the IBS, too. I can relate, because I have no doubt that I had IBS my whole life even though I wasn't diagnosed 'til I was a young woman.
