Avatar m tn I've been taking prevacid 30 mg TWICE a day for 10 years. Once a day before that. Doc says should be no problem. I was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis in my spine (aver. -3.2) and osteopenia in my hip. I am very active, martial arts instructor. 5'11" and 185 lbs. I was told to cut back the Prevacid to once a day. My blood work shows no obvious problems. Has prevacid been linked to Osteoporosis?
Avatar f tn I am a 31 year old mother of 4 boys. I was in a car accident when I was 15. I received multiple fractures to my hip, which I didn't know about. In 2006, my back started to bother me really bad so I decided to go to a specialist. During the X-rays they found the old fractures of my hip. I have lived with the pain for 15 years and 8 months ago finally had enough of it. I got a hip replacement in Feb. I was told after the hip replacement I would feel immediate relief.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm 24, a former ballet dancer (stopped when I was 16) with a stress fracture in the second metatarsal of my right foot that has not healed after 3 years of treatment and a possible new stress fracture in my left foot from over compensating. Why is it that my feet aren't healing and keep fracturing? I don't do any strenuous exercising like running or jumping.

Avatar f tn I have significant pain in my Upper left buttock and left hip. I fell from a horse and landed on my left hip. Have bruise on left hip from point of impact but also had a long thin bruise below my buttock and along my inner thigh. I was given a girdle brace to wear but cannot wear it. It cause incredible pain in these areas within minutes. I also have numbness at the base of my spine along with the surrounding area being super sensitive.
Avatar f tn Initially due to extreme pain when it popped, and confirmed 1 week later due to CT showing two acetabular and one femoral fracture. Doctor wants to wait 6 weeks for fractures to heal and see if popping resolves. My question: I took a pic of my latest X-Ray and noticed the acetabular cup is projecting outward from my socket line at the top of my socket, and it is retracted into my socket on the lower line of equal distance.

Of course everything has come back showing nothing. The mri showed no bulging discs or anything like that. I'm get in so much pain now in the hips and buttocks I take hydrocodone twice a day. I'm currently in my 4th week of PT and all the stretches and exercises don't decrease the pain.
947976 tn?1245864691 t recognize it, and no doctor understands where does the phosphate go. Now I am 19 and have both hip fixators , and have had around 10 spontaneous fractures. They have done so much research about my symptoms but nothing fits with some particular disease ( they have considered Oncogenic hypophosphatemic osteomalacia, but the tumor is nowhere to be found ). We have consulted around the world, but noone knows whats the reason behind this. I am desperate for help , I want to be healthy again!
4041138 tn?1349580463 My left hip is slightly higher and rotated forward which is really painful and uncomfortable. It started about 2 years ago, I went to a chiropractor every 2 weeks for about a year to get it to stay in its right place. It finally worked. Stayed perfectly in its place for over a year till I did a stupid yoga move and messed it up again. Now I have a different chiropractor for about 3 months. I started 3 seasons a week for a few weeks. Then 2 seasons a week and now just once a week.
Avatar m tn Recently I was diagnoses with recondaric bursitis (bursitis of the hip) received a steroid injection in the hip and sent to physical therapy. The next day in PT the therapist noticed right away that my left leg was ove an inch longer than my right. This was the cause of the injury to the bursa but what caused the pelvis to tilt so much has not been determined, nor even considered for diagnosis.
Avatar n tn Two possible causes of hip pain are fractures and insufficient blood flow to the hip (aseptic necrosis). Hip fractures become more common as people age because falls are more likely and bones become less dense. People with osteoporosis can get a fracture from simple, everyday activities, not just a dramatic fall or injury. As there is no history of trauma, aseptic necrosis could be the cause of pain in hip.
Avatar n tn Hi my friend had an accident and she got 5 fractures below her hip. she is 76 year old. Doctors did the surgeries and put the rods in. After three weeks she got bed sores in her back. Bedsore was so bad doctors had debridement and it went to her bone and got sepsis. Now her infection went to bone and blood she also had lungs infection, vancomycin-resistant enterococci and ecoli infection. She also got bedsore on her heels. It smells really bad from her bedsore.
Avatar m tn The pain is severe in the mornings immidiately after I wake up and in the evenings. It generally goes away during the day and especially after I have exercised in the gym. When it increases in the evening, it also travels below to the entire leg almost. I actually also started having juice everyday (fruits or veggies like carrots/ beetroot/ ginger) and was wondering if that could be the cause, so have stopped juices for a week now. But there is no improvement. Please advise.

Avatar m tn Osteoporosis is usually painless until a fraction takes place, and osteoporosis is a major contributing factor to bone fracture, including hip fractures, which are more common as people age. There are almost 2 million hip fractures annually around the world. While in the U.S., osteoporosis affects an estimated 26 million Americans, and more than 20 million are women, it is vastly undiagnosed.
Avatar n tn Wow..I know I'm 2 years late with my comment but I've recently been diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knee. I'm 42 years old for god sake! I've been taking Prevacid for 5 years and my Doctor dismissed the "rumors" as well. I come from a family of fat and skinny but almost 100% healthy members. My Mom didn't start menopause until she was 50 so I know that can't be the problem. I keep thinking; "why are my bones doing this?
Avatar f tn Treatment Approach The main goal of treatment is prevention of fractures, particularly hip, vertebral and radial fractures. Treatment approach is population-specific, but calcium and vitamin D supplementation is pertinent to all people at risk of and with osteoporosis. Diet and lifestyle Diet supplementation with calcium and vitamin D (as ergocalciferol) is intended to prevent osteoporosis and reduce the incidence of fracture.
Avatar f tn I have what I can only describe as a twisting feeling in the muscle of my thigh when I walk, a deep pain along pubic bone, and pain all around hip when moving. really feel hip is not sitting right and the tight muscle feeling spreads further up my torso as the day wears on.
Avatar n tn Hi getting X-ray for bad hip/low back pain on left side. tingles down leg too and oc hot pain over buttock.Do have diverticular symptoms going on too-not sure if linked or this hip is due to a fall a year ago. anyone get similar symptoms.
Avatar m tn My doctor that worked on my back was always baffled as to why I had hip pain and suggested that I get a second opinion from a hip specialist. Since he recently retired it's kind of hard to build the same kind of trust I had with him in a totally new doctor unfamiliar with my situation. I was hoping someone on here has any clue as to what might be going on and/or if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can get this taken care of.
Avatar n tn My daughter also takes pentasa and WAS taking prevacid. The prevacid didn't seem to help her and our GI switched her to prilosec. My daughter has had no complaints with the prilosec. Both prevacid and prilosec have the same actions so they do the same things. The only interaction that I know of with prevacid and penicillin is with a type of penicillin called Ampicillin and it may inhibit the absorption of the prevacid.
Avatar f tn Hi thanks for your information it was very interesting, My specialist had mentioned i may need a bone grafts in time and maybe later on hip replacments (which i dont want) i was surprised by the % that it happens to, i have now started taking fish oil and glucosamine for pain instead of tramadol, codeine etc so will see how it goes before i see specialist at end of month, my endrocrine specialist is waiting blood test results (wher they spin and seperate red/white blood cells) as she think it ma
Avatar f tn Stress fractures themselves are not indicative of osteoporosis. Fragility fractures-- which include a fracture of the hip, pelvis, wrist, spine, or shoulder sustained during a fall from standing height-- are concerning for osteoporosis. It is probably worth a baseline screening with a DXA scan, along with a basic panel of labs evaluating for possible secondary causes of low bone density/recurrent stress fractures. If nothing else, this will provide reassurance.
