Common Questions and Answers about Prevacid and grapefruit

prevacid

Along with a well balanced meal, i drink 1/2 to 1 quart of grapefruit juice a day and have for 2 years. I have heard of the dangers of drinking grapefruit with medications and am careful not to drink GF juice within a couple of hours of taking my meds. For about 1 month I have been slow to urinate. I drink plenty of water daily. My question is, does the amount of grapefruit juice that one intakes have any effect on their kidney function?
I agree with , you should be looking at additional/complementary measures, not just take the prevacid and continue your lifestyle as before. I was put on prevacid too, but only after making some adjustments to my diet, exercising more, losing some weight, and taking up a few more of the usual recommendations on heartburn relief. My doctor actually insisted on this before considering putting me on prevacid - he is a regular MD but always prefers "natural remedies" over medications.
If it's really bad and none of those help you can see if your doctor is ok with something like prevacid or prilosec.
I had the same problem with licorice, and grapefruit. I eat many vegetables, and fruits. Last night and today I realized I am having the same problems with carrots, peppers, apples. Is this normal? Please help!!!
are the same, so our bodies see pineapples and grapefruit as different for example, and respond differently. Also, according to recent research, the reduction of acid levels in the stomach can interfere with the body's absorption of calcium -- a certain level of acidity is required for the calcium to be accessible. Women who are menopausal or perimenopausal should take note since this can increase the risk of osteoporosis.
, anxiety (which can affect the muscles around the throat, neck, head , shoulders, chest pain ( I have that too) ive stopped taking prevacid, and drink organic apple juice/cider, take 2 tsp. of organic apple cider vinegar before a meal, and if my stomach hurts which has caused chest pain, take a tbsp of lemon juice to check if you need acid or have too much...if the lemon juice takes the pain away you need more acid like grapefruit and such if not you have too much acid which is ok.
I'm just about 32 weeks and have had the worst acid reflux this pregnancy and have tried every natural thing out there. For a while, just drinking grapefruit juice got rid of it, but now it does nothing. Tums have even stopped working. I am not one to take medicines or pop a pill unless I absolutely have to, and that's pregnant or not pregnant. I don't like the idea of having to take zantac, but it is seriously the only thing that is working now and lets me sleep through the night.
This interaction is poorly documented and is considered minor in severity. grapefruit juice may interact with ESTRADIOL (in Activella) grapefruit juice may block the breakdown of estradiol by the liver. If this happens, blood levels of estradiol could be increased and this could cause an increase in side effects. Side effects that can potentially occur with the use of estradiol include headache, weight gain, and stomach irritation.
from my stomach up into my throat and it can get incredibly bad when lying down! I am on prevacid for it now but if I miss a pill do I ever suffer. you have to watch what you are eating and drinking and it might give you a clue as to what it is...and when it happens when you lie down, try taking a Rolaid or another OTC heartburn relief tablet or liquid and see if it will help.
Personally I have never taken either drug for any long period of time because neither of them helped me.I take prevacid and Valium but I have seen the affects of going cold turkey of Effexor and they are not good. It took a month for my friend to start feeling better and she had taken the drug for about 10 years. As far as only taking drugs like Nexuim for only 6 months, I don't believe in most cases as I will be taking prevacid for the rest of my life.
Lately, I have been suffering from loss of sleep, chronic fatigue, lots of gas, sometimes hard to concentrate or focus, and well general anxiety associated with this. When I try to work out my breathing becomes erratic and I need to stop before I pass out. My doctor has been running me through the gamut for heart related problems of which all tests are coming back negative. So it does not appear to be my heart.

I went back to see my surgeon yesterday, and he told me that during the operation I had a lot of bleeding and have internal stitchen, so I will be sore for a while. More pain killers, more time?
I went to see a homeopathic doctor the other day and told her all my symptoms. She gave me a bottle of grapefruit Seed Extract ($6) and TruFlora probiotic cleansing formula ($40). Sounds expensive but it's a 4 month supply. My symptoms went away within 1 DAY! I never thought it would work in a million years after dealing with this daily for so long. I've never posted on a board like this, only researched what I've had but if I can help just one person end their suffering I I'd be so excited.
I was taking it with the prevacid combo and recently stopped the prevacid and still no cough.. It has been over a month now! HOWEVER.... We have also moved. I SWEAR we had mold issues in the old house so part of me wonders if I was just highly sensitive to mold? Anyone else have "potential or possible" mold issues? I would ask for Xyzal for a try at least to see if it helps you!
I have had chronic bacterial infections in my sinuses, tonsels and throat for the past two months and have been on many rounds of antibiotics, my infections are gone but I was left with a strong deep cough and now phlegm and swelling in my throat. No doctors have been able to tell me what it could be, my ear nose throat specialist said it was most likely acid reflux disease, but I don't buy that.
I asked him about my GB and he looked at me like I was crazy and he didnt know what one was. He has since put me on prevacid 30mg a day and I have been on it a week- i noticed blood in my stool! Is this the meds? the bloodwork the gast.
I went with my wife and got checked, he said I had a cold, checked my lymph's and found NOTHING wrong. I went on vacation and swam in the ocean and pool every day and the pains subsided. When I returned home the pain returned with a new symptom. I had a burning sensation that ran from my left underarm to my left nipple. It felt like the area just under my skin was in flames. My nipple showed no sign of discharge or dimpling or discoloration or inversion, it was sensitive to the touch though.
Well when they opened me up they found a grapefruit sized cyst on my ovary that had ruptured and I apparently was a mess inside and they decided that rather than having the possibility of having appendicitis in the future, they took that out at the same time! I think you should get this checked out though...not something to fool with when we know how illness and MS don't get along...an infection is the last thing you need right now honey!
Gave me a perscription for some acid reflux medication, which my insurance would not cover, so I was told to take prevacid. I did, for several months, and it seemed to help a little. However I was still having terrible coughing fits, red watery eyes, bladder accidents and vomit from coughing so hard. Managable if I was at home, but usually I was out, and everyone asking if you are ok, while you are trying to hold back, just didn't work.
In order to get around this problem, I resorted to elimination of fats from my diet, although I still had a few problems with diarrhea and GI indigestion. My doctor also prescribed Colestid and Metamucil, and this seemed to also help, but the problem did not go away if I ate very fatty foods. I have had an MRI and an ERCP (where they were specifically looking for a choledochal cyst).
anyhow long story short the method is simple enough, fast for a day or so and then drink a bunch of oil and grapefruit juice. The next morning you'll expel (thru your ***) a half a cup of emerald green stones. I've done it a half dozen times now over the course of three years and just about every time I get around a half a cup or so of pure emerald cholesterol stones out of my liver and gallbladder(these stones won't show up in an x-ray or soniscan).
Esophagitis/Erythema, Gastritis/Congested Mucosa, and Duodenitis/Erythema. I am taking prevacid to try and lower my stomach acid level. Anyway, that's my suggestion. Good luck!
This seems to be out of the ordinary and the Doctors don't have a clue. I even asked a pharmacist and he said he had never heard of people having problems with little pills only big pills.. Help.. if you have a similar problem and found someone that could help you I would appreciate the details..
while I absolutely love my job and what I am doing in these kids' lives, I am noticing a decrease in pain on the weekends..... I also have GERD and take prevacid but someone told me that the stomach acid can also cause intestinal issues. Unfortunately, quitting my job or taking time off is not an issue right now, but I will be taking a few days off in June as my first grand child ( a girl....Yeah) is due on the 12th. My students are taking off the last 2 weeks of June. Thanks again.
I think I/we can guess or prognose just as well or better than they can at times particularly if we know something about health and or ourselves and our own health. Never be afraid to speak up because I feel strongly that digestive tract problems are real and translate into other real nasty symptoms like this. Fortunately we can prevent much of this & need to prevent it from happening.
I never had a fruit problem with such fruits as peaches and pears and berries except strawberries and grapefruit. I have to stay away form them. I love cinnnamin so I bought cinnamin toothpaste and mouth wash and removed the mint form the shower. The final inidciation of mint problems is my sun tan lotion contains salicitate the main ingredient that the mint family is in.
) When I was about 26 I began having symptoms of GERD as well as a painful reaction to beer in particular, and after a couple years was prescribed prevacid. That cleared up my general GERD issues, and I was very hopeful that it would also clear up my issue with beer but it has not. If I drink only a small amount of beer (1/4 cup), I have an immediate stomach pain similar to GERD but even worse. It feels like I just drank a cup of bleach and it's eating my insides.
I took some prevacid for a while and it went away but has recently returned over the past 4 months. This time I have had another ultrasound, bloodwork, urinalysis, chest xray, and a HIDA Scan with ejection fracture, all of which have returned with no answers, showing absolutely nothing! I have an endoscopy scheduled next. I am at a loss as to what is going on and I feel that everyone around me is beginning to think that I am just making this all up!
Mine kind of come out like BBLLATTT and as you all know, woe to anyone standing around me, right? So I come home, grab 2 gas-ex pills and my generic prevacid, and crawl into bed almost crying in that wait-it-out phase. Around 2 am, I got up feeling like I was going to mess the bed, puke, or both (which I've done before, happy day) and when I go to the bathroom, totally the opposite of constipation. I mean like water, pouring. It always happens that way. Same thing this morning when I got up.
