Avatar m tn when i could not find oxycontin i would take opana er 40mg. opana(oxymorphone) is about twice as potent as oxycodone. they are rather new i believe they came out in 2002?
Avatar f tn and as for the addictive part, I was doing about 60mg a day of oxycontin and hydrocodone.
1445110 tn?1388209711 I recently was prescribed Opana ER was on methadone for two months and Norco for breakthrough pain. I had trouble tolerating the methadone. It made me feel horrible, couldnt function and didnt really help my back and hip pain. I am chicken to take the Opana. I need to get started on it and try it but I am so afraid of stronger pain meds. Anyone familiar with it and did it help with the pain without sedating you too much?
Avatar f tn Since my post here in Oct 2011, I have been switched to Opana ER...30 mg twice a day and has been a wonder drug for my chronic pain. After being prescribed Opana ER 2 months ago, I researched it more and Hootie is right. The bioavailability of oxymorphone is lower than that of Morphine...10% is correct. I still am prescribed Percocet for breakthrough pain and most days I only need one dose instead of two but there are days that two doses are definitely needed.
1855076 tn?1337115303 I've been on pain meds for the last five years. Long story, many surgeries. I took myself off a boatload of meds and was in and out of withdrawals most of that time. I transferred my care over to my primary care who gave me a script for up to 5 10 mg. oxycodone a day. For a long time I took nothing and just dealt with the pain. With the changing weather, I started using my script here and there and a few weeks ago was back to every day.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had issues with withdrawal symptoms coming on suddenly? I know the Opana ER doesn't last 12 hours (even my doc warned me this was the case) but this latest batch of opana seems to poop out & give me old sweats about 4 hours after taking it. I've been on Opana ER, 20 mg 2x/day for a couple of months. It's my 2nd experience with long-acting opioids (1st was Oxycontin MS, quit after 10 days due to gluten issues).
Avatar m tn My doctor told me that my last drug screening came up positive for Opana ER. I have never taken Opana. How in the world could this have happened? I know many people won't believe me, but it's the truth. I'm just trying to figure out how this could happen. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
712802 tn?1274645485 I was switched to 100mg Morphine 2x a day only after 2-3 months is not doing anything after 4 hours for now HE switched me to Opana er 40mg 2x a day the morphine worked while i was at work taking it 1 hour before going to work(Chef) but as soon as my 6 hour shift was ending The pain has become unbearable, now with the opana er I am feeling bad pain during work,I really am not sure what I am Asking, basically has anyone who has severe chronic pain who has to work like me ,I just need some wisdom t
541953 tn?1262586226 The Opana Er 20mg is goin to be a lower dose for you. Why didn't they give you 40mg or 30 mg. Seems like your goin to have to get them adjusted. I've been taking Opana er and Opana IR for 10+ years and it's the only medicine that helps me without the nasty side effects. Also ask about getting Koloanipin. That helps me with my nerve damage I have in both my legs, lower back, hips.
1264863 tn?1391118193 Anyone taken Opana ER? My doctor wants to switch me from Oxy to Opana ER and I am very nervous about it. Any advice is helpful.
Avatar m tn I am currently taking Opana ER 30mg /2 TID for long term spinal pain due to breaks and fusions. I am going to try replacing that for a short time with a Fentanyl Patch to see if I have any improvement in Pain Mgmt. I am just wondering what regimen I should use to safely do this. For example. Is it as easy as waiting 12 hrs. after my last Opana ER and then apply the patch (it's a 3 day patch) then take another ER once the 3 days has expired?
Avatar n tn Hi and welcome! I know from my own research on the condition, trigeminal neuralgia, that it is an extremely painful condition. I encourage you (if you haven't yet) to research the level of pain meds that Dr. Forest Tenant used for his patients with this condition that causes intractable pain. Just do a google search on "Forest Tenant". I have not heard of pain med injectables for home use.
Avatar n tn t know how many 5/325 mg Percocets you were taking a day before switching to the Opana ER 5 mg, but to have equivalent pain relief from the Opana ER, you had to have taken only 2 Percocets a day. If you were taking more than 2 Percocets a day then the switch to Opana ER 5 mg was a step down in terms of pain relieving strength.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Opana ER 30mg. 3 times a day for several months. My doctor has moved to Alaska and gave me 3 months of prescriptions while I find another doctor. When I dropped off the 2nd prescription the pharmacy told me they have ordered Opana several times over the last month and the order has not come. I called every pharmacy in my town and they said the same thing. Tapering is out of the question, so I guess its time for me to stop taking it, and it will have to be cold turkey.
571096 tn?1217008564 I have been on Opana for 2 months. I am now on 20mg twice a day and I still have to take Percocet for breakthrough pain. I am not really sure of the benefit of the Opana at this dose at my current pain level but I am going along with my nurse practitioners idea. I have not had headaches with it but it sure gives me a lot of heartburn. I hope that your doctor can find a combination that works for you. I am blessed to have a doctor and NP that are willing to change things if they are not working.
1331804 tn?1336867358 I was taking 60 mg of morphine sulfate ER plus 35 mg of percocet a day. He switched me to 30 mg of Opana ER every 12 hours with up to 25 mg of percocet a day for breakthrough pain. My old medications equaled 120 mg of morphine equivalent a day and my new medications equal 180 mg of morphine equivalent a day from just the Opana ER!!! That is a 60 mg increase!!! The Opana (oxymorphone) is a much stronger medication than morphine and percocet.
1331804 tn?1336867358 So later in the week last week, I called my doctor and told him all of this and stated that I was going back to the original dose of 30 mg in the morning AND at night. At this point, I was about to toss the Opana ER and go back to the Morphine ER BUT before I did that, I researched more about Opana ER and discovered that it takes 3-4 days to reach a steady state level in the bloodstream so I decided to stick with it awhile longer.
Avatar m tn You are taking Opana ER every 4-6 hours? Opana ER is meant to be taken every 12 hours, not every 4-6 hours. In fact, most insurance companies will not pay for extended release medications to be taken more than 2 times per day. I am very surprised that both your doctor and insurance are permitting the dosing schedule you stated. https://www.belbuca.
Avatar m tn A quick history: -Migraines that were unusually resistant to standard treatments until the age of 18 -At 18 my neurologist increases my Valporic Acid dose to 4000mg/day -ER neglected to perform any tests except for a spinal tap (no bacteria, just the worst headache of my life) -Spinal tap pain is supposed to subside, but I am discharged with constant head pain and simply don't feel right -I see a psychiatrist to address my mental status's acute change -It turns out I have a traumatic bra
Avatar f tn my dr just put me on opana ER 10mg 2x day and 2 lortab day for breakthru...before that was prescribed and taking 4 norco 10/325 daily and was not controlling the pain...i've been in this constant flar-up phase few weeks... i've only been on opana er for 2 days so i know it takes around 5 days to kick in and dr says this mg is a starting point for me and will move up some accordingly...i'm glad and surprised that my pain has subsided some...
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm having gastric bypass have been on Opana 30mg er 3 x a day for 2 years. Percocet 10/325 for break thru. Let's not forget I also have a spinal cord stimulator . I'm am trying the fentanyl patch 50 x72 hours. I started to get sick the first day, took off the patch went back to opana. I have to make this work, I'm told with gastric it will pass right thru .
Avatar m tn I agree with Geminigirl and Tuckamore's comments that medications affect everyone differently and what may work for someone may not work well for you. But given my recent medication change to Opana ER, I have found information all across the internet from other chronic pain patients that are being switched from Oxycontin to Opana ER due to their doctor's unwillingness to continue to prescribe the medication due to bad press and associated fear from DEA prosecution.
Avatar f tn You may not necessarily need a higher dose, sometimes a change in medication can do the trick and rotate every year or so, that can help keep your tolerance down a bit. As for Opana, it will either work great for you or not at all. It's bio-availability is only around 10-15% so it really just depends. But, like I said, some people respond really well to it and some don't. Its worth a shot if you have insurance, it is really expensive, even the new generic is expensive. Good luck to you!
Avatar n tn I have been taking Opana ER 20mg for pain. Pain is gone but NOT taking the Opana ER is giving me horrible effects like weakness all over, cold chills, hot and cold flashes, and nausea. Does anyone know how to effectively get off this stuff, I have tried to do it slowly. I'm completely off of the Opana 10mg for breakthrough pain. I have added an hour each time I take the Opana ER 20mg ( started every 12 hours then 13, 14, etc.
604815 tn?1220102163 I am not a fool and cant and wont do it cold turkey, been there done that, I have taken 40 mg of meth 2 days ago and have done roxis and had a fetynal patch on for 2 days, I have a presription for opana er and as I was reading it I noticed the scary for me word antoginist (sp?) I was looking forward to trying to get totally off the meth with the help of the opana and now that I read that I am wondering if it is like suboxome or subutex??
