Prempro vs bioidentical

Common Questions and Answers about Prempro vs bioidentical

premarin

Avatar f tn I just started prempro 4 nights ago, and my hot flashes (and subsequent clod flashed) and night seats have gotten worse, not better. I'm only (almost) 46 and was taking DHEA and Pregnenolone....and they worked well up until a couple of months ago. I up'd the dosage, and it still won't work for me anymore. I really REALLY didn't/don't want to take synthetics, but it all just became too much...nauseous too....want to cry all the time.
Avatar f tn Three days ago I went to a new doctor to get the hormones adjusted and she said she does not prescribe bioidenticals and gave me a prescription for Prempro. I do not want to take this and I told her so. She said she does not believe bioidenticals are any safer than Prempro and if I needed to have an adjustment in my Rx due to break through symptoms of hot flashes and severe brain fog along with zero energy then I needed to try something different than what I had been doing.
Avatar n tn t need the progesterone and can take estrogen only (Premarin vs. Prempro or even the very economical generic estradiol tablets). I'm also 63 and have been on estradiol since having a hysterectomy at age 49. I worry about not being able to get a prescription as I get older.
Avatar f tn The next day, September 18, I abruptly stopped the Prempro and let my doctor know I felt I had been on the Prempro long enough and also due to the breast cysts. So for me it's only been a little over a month since I've stopped the Prempro. I was told I don't need to return for a year. That is amazing your screening showed no cysts after six months. this gives me hope.
Avatar f tn If you decide to see another dr. look for a specialist, bioidentical hormone or antiaging dr. They deal primarily with menopause issues. I developed SVT of heart , Why- ??? due to hormone issues, never had heart problem before in my life. As for anxiety, mood changes, insomnia, ect... yes, they were and are my most disturbing symptoms. BUT they are better since being on bioidentical hormones ( for me being on premarin made me MUCH worse- but thats ME only).
Avatar f tn However, other types of hormones and hormonal delivery symptoms (meaning patches, creams, etc. vs. a pill) have come a long way in the past ten years alone. And, more and more research has also been done regarding the types of hormonal replacement that are available. You just have to know where to look and whom you should trust... and that is where it all gets a bit tricky.
Avatar f tn Recently the doctor changed my Prempro dosage from .45/1.5 mg per day to double that amount. Do you think the change in Prempro could change my thyroid levels? Should I request new thyroid blood tests or wait for my annual testing which comes up in 6 months?
Avatar f tn Have been taking Prempro for 14 yrs. Hot flashes and osteopenia (pre-osteoporosis). Awaiting biopsy results for microcalcifications around or in ducts. Can prempro increase risk of BC, in particular, DCIS?
551683 tn?1220656108 Hi Karen, I wanted to copy and paste the information I gave Jonzbeach regarding Bioidentical Progesterone vs. Synthetic Progesterone ....In that case, Jonz was asking about Megace.... Now, I don't know much about how Progesterone is used in women NOT in Menopause since I only have studied it with regards to how helpful it is in Peri- and Post- menopausal women.
405824 tn?1201817954 I have almost 600 of them, but most are on surgical adhesions and bioidentical hormones. I think it is criminal that more women do not know about all the options that are there for them. But, then again, I have researched this stuff since 2001. I would encourage you to pick up Northrup's book "The Wisdom of Menopause." It literally saved my life. And, it helped me understand the work that hormones do for us. We really are our hormones. And the interplay they have with one another..
Avatar f tn I have been on bioidentical hormone therapy for several years: estrogel 0.06% 2 pumps once daily and prometrium 200 mg. daily. My main symptoms for seeking treatment were severe hot flashes, night sweats and insomnia. These symptoms have subsided since being on hormone replacement therapy. I do not have access to individual dosage evaluation and preparation of these hormones. I know that it is best to take the lowest dosage that gives me relief of my symptoms to decrease my risks of cancer.
Avatar f tn ****natural or bioidentical progesterone to treat uterine hyperplasia vs Megace**** Megace is not a Progesterone in the true sense of the word (which is one reason Progesterone itself ALWAYS gets a bad rap). It is a Progestin, a synthetic drug made to act like Progesterone, but is not identical to what the body would normally produce. I had not heard much about this until I saw your post so I was curious about it.
Avatar n tn i am 55 and i had been on birth control pills for 25 years to keep my periods regular now i went to a different Dr she told me i would not start menopause while i was taking the birth control pills so she put me on angeliq a hormone pill i started taking them and after 2 months my periods and after not having 1 for 6 months i started my period again which lasted almost a month i went back to Dr and she wants to put me on prempro i don't know if i should take the prempro or start taking my bi
Avatar n tn The second component in Prempro is called Provera stated progesterone - but its really not human progesterone or progesterone at all. Human estrogen is actually a blend of three different molecules. Estriol, estrone and estradiol. These are specific blends to each individual and they have got to be properly balance for the individual to maintain wellness and ward off disease and counter act with human progesterone and testosterone for balance.
Avatar f tn have one next month none that went on until may had a 7day period then in june it hit I started what was a 23 day period very heavy at times stoped for 5 days then started again. went back to my ob-gyn who told me it was menopause. hormone imbalance put me on prempro I am still bleeding not as heavy been taking it for almost a month he told me it could take up to 3 months to even out in the mean time I think im going crazy cry one minute ok the next along with other issues.
237053 tn?1258828426 I heartily requested I be able to go on Prempro to my GYN. He had me do the standard hormone therapy first, then allowed the Prempro. I was on it for over ten years and I felt it was very positive for my MS not to have periods! Then came the big Prempro crash and controversy. I stayed on it anyway for several more years without insidence then the pedulum swung back and some people have resumed its use again.
Avatar n tn The latest is the inability to have an orgasm. That made me go see my doctor who prescribed Prempro. My maternal grandmother died with breast cancer. I have a history of seizure disorder and on Dilantin. After 2 days of taking Prempro I decided not for me. I think I need Progesterone and would like to know if others use the cream and what brand. Or any advice appreciated. Thank- you.
Avatar f tn m not a depressed type, always happy, not moody. I had to go on Prempro, it took 2 weeks, I was better. I am having trouble with words, simple words, I forget how to spell them, or even say them. I am really frustrated with that. But I'm going to get a Natural one, Hormones and then ween myself of the prempro. That can cause Cancer . Hope that answer your ?
2121656 tn?1395674749 While searching for a good Endocrinologist, that will treat symptoms before levels. I came across a Dr. that performs a procedure called, implanting bioidentical hormonal - it's a simple procedure. Done with lidocaine in the office. In inserts pellets into the buttocks. Has anyone every heard of this procedure before? Also, if I could get some feedback on what my friends here think about such.
Avatar f tn I am 54 yrs. of age and have been period free for 8 yrs. Within the last year and a half I have been seeking treatment for horrible burning inside and out of the vaginal area. My doctor has done many tests and has said that I have vaginal atrophy (sp) and told me to use replens. She also recommended Prempro as I still have a uterus. I no longer have health insurance and can't afford the prempro and the replens DOESN"T work.
Avatar n tn It could be the prempro. Ask your doctor about going off of it for a few month and see if that helps. I heard that estrogen can cause congestion along with other medications. I too have non allergic rhinitis but mine is considered Vasomotor rhinitis.k I had this for 6 yrs. but I do not take any medication, just nasal steroid sprays and nasal rinses and it does not do anything. I even had sinus surgery - total ethmoidectomy, opening the ostia of the maxillary sinuses and partial turbinectomy.
