The Premarin helped quite a bit with the hot flashes, but my moods and anxiety levels seemed to get even worse. Plus it was causing physical side effects that were really scaring me, so I quit after only a few months. Thanks for responding. I have been on HRT, that's why I am seeking something alternative. HRT made me crazy..even on the lowest dosage. I foun d one bioidentical online that actually contained MSG as an ingredient and I am horribly sensitive to that, gives me migraines, which is also one of the lovely s/e of menopause. I'm sorry to hear about the migraines. Zoladex will suppress the periods as long as you take it, but when you stop taking it, they come back. It's also got a lot of side effects that sound very unpleasant, along with the risk of osteoporosis. You might look up Wikipedia's entry on Zoladex (it will link you to the generic name).

I am a 62 year old woman G3P3 . I had a total hysterectomy with BSO. I have been on estrogen replacement since my surgery in 1998. I still have moderate-severe hot flashes and they seem to be getting more intense with age. I switched from oral Premarin which covered me pretty well but I didn't want to be taking pills the rest of my life. Since then I have tried a variety of patches that are really not very effective on a regular basis and very expensive. At my age, what do you recommend.

I never seemed to do well on it years ago and I did better with premarin though I had lots of headaches. I had my hysterectomy uterus and ovaries removed in 2012. When they prescribed this medication to your baby, they should have informed you of the potential side effects. I would say that it is almost definitely expected that she was going to develop pubic hair as a result of this medication. And if she were older, maybe even 8 or so, I may have expected even more than that, like possibly development of breasts and such. I'm sorry that you are dealing with this. I wouldn't sweat it though.

Prior to my hysterectomy I was in medical menopause anyway so no hormones since age 15. I am fine I have side effects of menopause but I tolerate those better than the side effects of hormones. I don't see any reason why you have to take HRT I know many other women that don't take it either. For me I am much worse on HRT than without it.

m guessing by your use of Premarin Cream is because your trying to prevent vaginal dryness due to estrogen loss. According to their website, the most common side effects include headache, infection, abdominal pain, back pain, accidental injury, and vaginitis (yeast infection). So my guess is... there's your culprit...if this all started at the same time you started the Premarin and nothing else would fit. I would call your doctor and see if there is another med your could get on.

Well, that stinks. Sorry this is such a hard adjustment for you. Does your doctor have any supplementation ideas? You don't want cancer . . . so if the risk increases greatly, that is reason to get off the premarin but I'm sure your body is craving the hormone! Hope you are doing okay. Oh, and I have ringing and the sound issue in my ears from time to time. I have inner ear tube dysfunction. I've had it long before menopause and my hormonal issues.

Post surgical ovarian failure, whilst uncommon, is a real risk with these surgeries and I was never advised of this risk before my op so I am very upset. I now have to take birth control, and all because of a benign cyst. I get migraines from the pill and I shouldn't be taking it either. I wish I had just left the cyst there. I was told not to take any herbal agents, soy etc. The physician did say that premarin vaginal cream 3 x per week would be okay. I am concerned. I have been told allot of different things. Do I risk taking the cream? Is it absorbed just locally? What is your suggestion.

Yes that is a side effect for sure with the Lupron. Premarin I wasnt on it long enough as it was causing me yeast infections. I will have to do some research on the Medroxy one. Do you know if its a progesterone based drug?

I am scheduled to have a hysterectomy soon. The doctor wants to take my ovaries. My mom and both of her sisters have had hysterectomy's. My mother and 1 aunt had early onset of Alzheimers. both took premarin. I have read and studied that HRT's like premarin have a high risk of dementia and heart disease? since my dad had heart disease and most of his siblings and family have had heart problems I am worried. I have Endometrosis and also prolapsed Uteris.
