Premarin for hot flashes

Common Questions and Answers about Premarin for hot flashes

premarin

Avatar m tn I took the 1/2 pill with great caution as my mom took premarin for many years and ended up with breast cancer which eventually took her life 5 years ago). I have been tortured since stopping my premarin regime. I don't think I have had a full nights sleep since - in fact last evening the first wake up was at 3:38 and then I had 5 more flashes before I finally got out of bed and started my day with more flashes. My gen practioner has suggested prozac ... sorry but that seems a bit severe.
Avatar f tn Before Premarin I was having hot flashes, anxiety, and terrible insomnia. After the first few days of taking Premarin, I began to notice great improvement. My hot flashes went away and insomnia disappeared. I had a few bumps along the way but then everything balanced out. Now, the old symptoms have returned with a vengeance. My doctor increased it to the next higher dosage of 0.
Avatar n tn Hi Grandma 1964, I’m surprised that the estrogen has not helped you with the hot flashes after all this time. It seems that helping hot flashes is the one thing that almost everyone agrees estrogen does do well. What particular medication are you taking? I took Premarin for four months last year, and while it did help with the flashes and night sweats, it did little to help with my anxiety, stress and mood swings. If anything, it seemed to make things worse.
Avatar f tn After quitting the hormones I started using and herbal supplement called Wisdom Menopause Formula, and for me it has been wonderful. It worked better on the hot flashes than the Premarin did, but the best part is that it has made a huge difference in my emotions and anxiety levels. I've been taking it for just over a year now, and would recommend it to anyone, especially for the emotional benefits. Do talk to your doctor about using Premarin without progestins, Vonda.
Avatar f tn I think the patches specifically say on the box that they don't do anything for hot flashes, though they supposedly keep the vagina pretty lubricated. I don't like Premarin because it comes from mare's urine. Have you talked to your doctor about a light dose of oral estrogen and some compounded progesterone capsules that can be inserted vaginally? Of course, this would mean taking the estrogen as a pill, but it could knock down the hot flashes.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Premarin daily which I took for the next 15 year until the scare of it being direclty involved in the cause of some breast cancers. I stopped immediately. I have fought the battle of hot flashes for the past 6 years and they are starting to taper off. I am now 61 years old. But I have have an increasing problem with hair loss. I have been told it could be due to the anesthesia that I was given for several surgeries or the lack of Estrogen.
498959 tn?1209954808 but why would i not have them before now/ I dont really want to take a hormone like Premarin, I just want the hot flashes to go away.......any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I was placed on Premarin immediately after the surgery. I suffer from Hashimotos autoimmune disease for many years and was diagnosed last year with Lupus after suffering many years with leukopenia which was caused by the Lupus or the Premarin. I took myself off of Premarin in July 2016 and I feel so much better. My hair is now growing back after losing about 3/4 of it during a Lupus flare-up that lasted over 7 months. My muscle aches are gone and my blood counts are now registering normal.
Avatar f tn now ive been off them for 6 years now and feel and look like ****.hot flashes constantly..for the past year ive had acne on my chin that will not go away and ive been told its due to hormmonal imbalance..so im trying to find out some info on this..ill pass any info along that might balance our levels..im going to the health food store to find out.
Avatar f tn The pain got much worse and I was not feeling myself so I stopped taking the premerin and opted to try a product I found on line called Amberen, so far that isnt doinganything for the hot flashes and night sweats at all but since stopping the premarin my legs are not bothering. I am taking calcium pills for my bones but I am truly worried for my health and want to find the best options for me.
Avatar f tn I have been going through menopause for over 15 years... hot - Ican'tbreathe- flashes, night sweats, the works~ Does it EVER end? I haven't felt clean since it all started! As soon as I am out of the shower and all nice and clean BAM here comes a hot flash! I go to sleep and am woken up numerous times with hot flashes. It wouldn't be so bad to have them for a while, but geez! this is long enough!!!
Avatar f tn As for the anxiety, do yourself a favor and give Wisdom Menopause Formula a try. It has made a huge difference for me, and it took care of the hot flashes and night sweats as well. I know six or eight women who are taking it, and I've heard nothing but praise. Please let us know what your doctor says!
Avatar n tn I have very bad hot flashes, one doctor prescribed Premarin, another Yazmin, wich pill should I take???? I take 50 mg. of captopril for hight blood pressure, the rest of my health is good.
Avatar n tn t immediately go through any symptoms like hot flashes that kind of stuff. It was about a week before I started premarin because my dr wanted me to take it. I took it for several years and then took myself off. I am now 45. I have not had estrogen since 2015. Insomnia is bad, anxiety is higher, and depression has been around more. Nothing in my life has changed. I don't know why I all of a sudden I don't feel like my old self. I am going to see my old Gyn on Monday.
Avatar m tn I had a hysterectomy a few months ago in August. My GYN removed EVERYTHING except for a tiny portion of my cervix for a safety measure. He prescribed Premarin 1.25mg. for a month. Since, I haven't had hot flashes, mood swings, or vagina dryness. I was 47 at the time of surgery. The thing I've experienced is I get mild cramps during what would normally be my time of the month, however, with each passing month it is becoming less and less. I feel so much better now!!!!
Avatar f tn Hello sir, I received a full hysterectomy in 2004 and I have been in menopause every since. I have tried every over-the-counter remedy known. I also tried a very low dose of hormones and got sick with them. I am really trying to figure out a way for the " hot flashes", mood swings, and weight gain to taper off. I am 41and I am experiencing excessive facial hair, as well as body hair. This has been the worst experience for me. Do you have any suggestions for me?
882650 tn?1240589969 It worked as well or better than the HRT for night sweats and hot flashes, and has done wonders for my anxiety and emotional issues as well. It is a liquid, and contains Peruvian Peppertree, Fenugreek and several other herbs (no soy or black cohosh). I take one tablespoon first thing in the morning, and I'm happy to say that I am sleeping and feeling better in general than I have in years.
Avatar n tn I dont have my ovary's. I have been on Estrogen Premarin for 2 months now. Just trying to get the right balance I need since I've been up with bad night sweats and hot flashes. This pain was just one I never felt before. I never had any pain after having my kids. The only time is when I had endo and adneomyois this past year.
Avatar f tn my hysterectomy was in 2007. I have only had these recent symptoms for the last 2-3 years. I don't know where I am in menopause but one of the follicle tests showed that my levels were in the 60's when they were only supposed to be around 15. I can't take meds because it effects my burning mouth syndrome. My Hot flashes are insane.

Avatar n tn 7 months ago I started having hot flashes which have become almost unbearable now. One of the hot flashes lasted in excess of 3 hours and left me completely drained of energy. For the past 5 months I have been on a tablet Angeliq and although the hot flashes are less, they still occur at the most inconvenient times. The doctor recently advised me to add a Premarin tablet (the green one, small dose) to the Angeliq and I now have one or two hot flashes every day.
378102 tn?1215571666 You may want to ask your doctor about Neurotin (gabapentin). It is supposed to be as effective as HRT for hot flashes, but is a very strong narcotic, so will need to consult your physician and oncologist about possible side effects etc. Good luck.
718868 tn?1230730029 Hello. I am new to this site but wanted to seek a support system on something I'm dealing with. I am 26 years old and after having my daughter in 2003, I had to have a hysterectomy due to complications from endometriosis after going into labor. I was left with 1 ovary which for sometime hasn't been working properly. I'm currently taking Premarin 1.25 mg for my hormonal issues but it isn't helping very much.
414018 tn?1268611672 The surgery kicked it in full swing. I was on premarin for awhile to try and help with hot flashes but as it did not seem to be doing much, I was taken off of it. If possible, can you explain your situation a little more?
880900 tn?1467270141 Conjugated estrogen is an estrogen replacement hormone used for the management of menopausal symptoms such as abnormal uterine bleeding (spotting), hot flashes, sweating, and chills. It is also used by women to prevent and treat osteoporosis, in cases where non-estrogen medications have already been considered. It is used to replace estrogen hormones in situations where the body can no longer produce estrogen.
Avatar f tn 00 watch what I was eating but no diet...
Avatar n tn Hi. My doctor told me that although I'm having a hysterectomy on Tuesday, they don't want to start on hormone therapy until I demonstrate signs that I need them. I am 46, and they say that although I was pre-menopausal prior, it is better to wait and see if I "need" the hormone therapy. If we experience uncomfortable hot flashes & other signs of trouble, then they start the therapy. The oncologist also told me something I had never heard before.
