Depends if it's the 1 hour test or 3 hour test. The 3 hour test you are suppose to fast for but the 1 hour it doesn't matters. You can eat before the one hour test and drink whatever. But you can't eat or drink anything during the hour wait. Your doctor should have given you instructions on the to do.
Yes, I just had my 24 wk appointment and scheduled my glucose test for my next visit. My doctor also sent the drink home with me, with instructions on when to take it. They have to draw blood exactly 1 hour after you finish the drink. if you take it at the office you'll have to sit around and wait. If they send it with you, you won't have to stay as long and they can draw your blood as soon as you get there.
Tomorrow I'm supposed to take my 1 hour glucose test and it's my first time, it's early in the morning and I'm not really sure what is appropriate for me to eat for breakfast before I go in. I have a glucose test in 9 hours but I'm having bad back pain and a hot shower didn't help. I was wondering if I took 1 Tylenol if it would effect my test?
Typically you're not supposed to fast before the glucose test. I ate right up until I drank the glucose drink and my 1 hour BG result was 58. I had the early test and will have it again at 28 weeks cause they always think I am diabetic cause my babies are so big. It's a good idea to watch your sugar and carb intake anyway. I'm having some blood work done that will include a glucose test. The requisition form includes instructions to fast for 12 hours prior to the test, but does not mention anything about tobacco use, and I do unfortunately smoke.
Perhaps to be safe I should abstain from smoking as well as food prior to the test, as nicotine could affect my blood glucose levels. But on the other hand, doesn't *nicotine withdrawal* also affect blood glucose levels?

How do I prepare for my glucose test? My clinic does it as a walk in at the lab. They never gave me instructions for it. I was told I don't need to fast, but what should I eat before I go? I was toldby a friend to eat a lot of protein and all mt midwife told me was not to drink coffee or eat a camdy bar before the test.
Ask your doc if you have some options. The glucose drink made me sick during my last pregnancy so I asked my midwife if I could opt out of the test. She said I could but that she wouldn't suggest it, especially since my daughter was a very big newborn (just shy of nine pounds).
She did give me an alternative to the glucose drink. She sent home very specific instructions. I had to find a juice or soda or something that I'd be able to drink 50 grams of sugar within five minutes.
I am 20 weeks with twins and do the chances are greater for me to get gestational diabetes, so I have to go in on Monday for the 1 hour test. I had a negative 3 hour glucose test i am now 34 weeks and i now have to check my blood sugar 4 times a day and carefully watch what i eat about the last month, and everytime i check it's exactly where it needs to be!
So hopefully you pass it because taking blood is hard to remember although it's for the best!

you do not need to fast. I was told though not to eat any carbs or sugars (including fruit) before the test. My test was at 10am, so I had scrammbled eggs and 2 soy sausage patties for breakfast. But, of course... I would check with your doctor because they might have different instructions than what I was given.
