1146870 tn?1261519635 I am looking for some relief for nerve pain after a stroke. My right side is total pain all the time. It hinders my everyday life.
Avatar f tn What treatment, other than surgery, can help with ulnar nerve pain? Is acpuncture recommended?
Avatar n tn my daughter has had 2 surgeries for pituiatry tumour, radiotherapy, she still has remnant tumour, (Acromegaly) but also has facial ear and neck pain, which prof says is because tumour is pressing on trigeminal nerve, tried amytrplin, never worked, 3 weeks ago prof put her on Pregabalin, small dose then up to 300 a day, within a few days of upping the dose, she has been in more pain than ever, crying, agitated, and said she thought she had pain before, but now this is unbearable, they have told
Avatar m tn t hardly hurt when touched, the closer we got to the left eyebrow the more intense the pain got, when you move away from that area the pain is less. looking on the nerve regions the pain appears where the supratrochlear nerve appears; the pain is just above the corner of the eyebrow directly on the line where i had been rubbing. The pain is a dull aching, throbbing sensation. if you press the area it will swell.
Avatar f tn The laminectomy didn’t work and the steroid injections only give pain relief for a few weeks. The nerve pain seems to be chronic as I’ve had it for a number of years. It’s worse at night and primarily on the outside of my left quad, with most discomfort at night that keeps we awake most of the night unless I dose up on Pregabalin. Any advice? Has anyone found any different treatments that can help on a more permanent basis?
Avatar f tn I was told I had sprained tendons, cysts and now its nerve damage. I have done everything the Dr has told me to do with no sign of releif. The insurance company has denied surgey the first time. Then requested medical records. That was in July still nothing. There is nothing else to do but wait for the ok. I have pain and numbness in my fingers. Can you give me any ideas on what to do?
Avatar n tn They are both used to treat nerve pain (neuropathic pain), but gabapentin can be useful in treating other pain syndromes, like the pain of peripheral neuropathy, or the pain of fibromyalgia. The only way to know if this medication will help is to try it, but I repeat, it is not used to substitute for opiate treatment, so you will most likely continue your morphine and oxycodone while trying it. Pain management, like football, is a game of inches.
Avatar f tn I had nerve decompression surgery last Weds (lateral femoral cutaneous nerve) to try to stop left sided anterior thigh pain which is particularly bad at night. (I’ve also had conservative treatment, injections etc, but only had temporary relief) Since the surgery the leg pain seemed to have gone until last night so I was back on the pregabalin again. Has anyone else had this surgery. How long does it take before you know whether it’s worked or not?
Avatar m tn Most of us with significant pain take Neurontin (Gabapentin) or Lyrica (Pregabalin). These do work for nerve pain, though doses have to be titered up and down when we start or stop them. Hefty doses may be needed, and sometimes they need supplementation with a small dose of an antidepressant such as Cymbalta or Amiltryptiline--someone correct me please if I don't have these drugs right. But some antidepressants do have pain-relieving properties as well.
Avatar f tn It does help some individuals but for others it is simply not effective. Lyrica (Pregabalin) is generally effective in treating nerve pain. I assume with the reduced blood supply to your wrist it is effecting all the tissues and bones including your nerves. I also suggest that you see another orthopedic surgeon or specialist. If treatments is not providing you good pain relief than at the very least you deserve to be comfortable. There are more potent medications that can bring that comfort.
Avatar m tn The only help i find is through a pain killer called LYRICA (pregabalin) which works on nerve ending pain. I am taking a herbal tablet from Iceland called Sagapro ( the website is sagamedica) and found that it has helped a little. Have you been and got checked for all the possible std,s ? If not...do... If you have and they are all clear you are reading too much into it. try and put it out of your mind, because believe me the mind can invent pain!! I am talking from experience.
901222 tn?1399142874 I was in the same boat and I don't know if this will work for you but it did for me. I got on lyrica 100mg. It's non narcotic and helps withdrawal. I think it's actually for fibromyalgia or nerve pain not really sure but I got shot in the face and jumped a year later and they hit me in the jaw with a sledge hammer and it works good for me.
634733 tn?1316625992 Gabapentin and Lyrica are anti-seizure medications (this class of drugs also reduces neuropathic pain) that effect the voltage gating of calcium channels in the nervous system. Just about all of the anti-seizure medications "can" (but not always do) cause weight gain. These drugs decrease certain neurotransmitters and increase neuronal GABA levels.
Avatar n tn healing process of the surgical wound, I believe that the health professionals in your area can do more in terms of controlling the pain. We do have very good drugs in controlling pain and I think that the pain is still under treated. Possible causes that I can think of would be neuropathy from some form of nerve damage incurred during the operation, or sutures dissolving themselves causing some local irritation.
Avatar n tn What kind of back surgery? I have the same nerve pain you describe (down my legs and into my foot) as a result of stenosis (nerve compression) from spondylolisthesis. You should talk to your doctor about a medication like Lyrica or Neurontin.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin or (Neurontin) is a good medication for nerve pain. Also if this was neuropathy, you would probably have pain or discomfort even with sitting. I hope you feel better soon!
Avatar f tn I have had pain for way too long, feel a bit foggy like in a haze but nerve pain has eased some. I am also taking hydrocoapap 7.5-325. I no longer am able to work so the foggy feeling is better than more pain. What concerns me is long turn usage and if I am able to work up to four 300mg daily and still be able to function. I found out at pharmacy that I could get Lyrica for $3.20 a month..paid $1.10 for Gabapentin. I am covered by Medicare and Medicaid.
983008 tn?1329925830 The pregabalin is just a med for quieting nerve pain and paresthesias. Waiting for it to be more effective has nothing to do with telling the consultant that you are having a new wave of symptoms. Please urge your GP to try to hurry up the appointment.
1218873 tn?1300091216 HI Bob Both the eye pain and head pain that lasts for a few seconds is a much deeper pain, as opposed to pain around the right side of the head ear & eye which I have constantly for which I take pregabalin 400mg a day and also Cymbalta 60mg at night. I also have botoxilin injections for the atypical blespharospams which I have been told is to do with something disfunctioning in the basil ganglia.
Avatar m tn If a wrong vertebral fusion is causing the pain, then only corrective surgery will help relieve the pain. You need a MRI to look into the details of cord/nerve compression. Also, you appear to be having withdrawal symptoms. Please consult a doctor immediately. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar m tn Treatment will depend on the etiology (either nerve or bone). If nerve, neuropathic pain meds such as gabapentin or pregabalin may be useful. If bone pain, NSAIDs are typically the main treatment option. I would suggest you discuss your pain with your surgeon. You may need to have a referral to a neurologist. Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.
Avatar f tn Consult an endocrinologist for prescription of drugs like pregabalin, thiamine for the neuropathic pain relief. Hope this helps. Take care.
