Pregabalin for radiculopathy

Common Questions and Answers about Pregabalin for radiculopathy

lyrica

Avatar m tn This is true of gabapentin and pregabalin which were originally invented for seizures. Pregabalin is similar to gabapentin but has less side effects and often people who can not tolerate gabapentin benefit from pregabalin. However it is more expensive. The same is true for medications such as amitryptiline, which was originally used for depression but is now a mainstay of treatment for neuropathic pain. However, it has several side effects and may not be used in patients with heart problems.
Avatar n tn Currently, the 2 most effective medications for peripheral neuropathy that we have available are gabapentin (Neurontin) and pregabalin (Lyrica). The latter is a newer drug and is more expensive than the first. I generally tend to start with gabapentin and will switch to pregabalin if the gabapentin isn't doing the trick. The mediactions may not take away all of your symptoms, although ideally, they will dampen them considerably.
634733 tn?1316625992 I have heard that Lyrica actually worse that Gabapentin for the weight gain. I have gained a bit on the gabapentin too, but my mother was on Lyric and gained 30 lbs. in a VERY short time. you might want to reconsider it. I donèt know if it is a body type and condition that causes the weight gain, but I have heard it alot from people on Lyrica. Just check it out Pat, and see what your Dr.
Avatar f tn I just wanted to post some additional info for anyone who has read my question. I recently saw a neurologist who ordered an EMG. For a diagnosis, the wrote neuropathy vs radiculopathy. I didnt get the written report of the results. But from what the doctor who performed the emg said. I have axonal neuropathy in my feet. He found radiculopathy in my arms which he knew would be there since I had the neck surgery. He also found radiculopathy in the lumbar area.
1039200 tn?1314912008 Has anyone heard of Pregabalin (lyrica) for bipolar or anxiety? - my doctor wants me to try, but I have not heard about it before and would like to know if anyone here has tried it or knows anyone who has. Is it used as a mood stabiliser? - I can't find it on the web site ILADVOCATE recomended me a long time ago, does this mean it's not a mood stabiliser or just a new brand?
Avatar m tn I have recently started taking pregabalin for GAD and I can honestly tell that it is a miracle drug for me. It has been a week now since I have started taking 50mg pragabalin after meal. All of my GAD symptoms have gone. I don't feel severe anxiety, constant restlessness (akathesia), social anxiety, muscle tension, depression, panic attack e.t.c. Before that I was taking Zoloft, Paxil, Wellbutrin for sexual side effects, Inderrall for heart palpitation and muscle relaxants everyday.
Avatar m tn Also my problem is mainly GAD and mild depression has come with it. Currenlty, I am taking pregabalin for GAD. Wonder drug for me. I am little concerned with it side effects such as infertility and birth defects. Apart from that I am very happy with this med.
Avatar m tn Other drugs like gabapentin, pregabalin, amitryptline, carbamazepine are also effective and are relatively safe as compared to nortryptline. For more information visit http://www.drugs.com/nortriptyline.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nortriptyline http://www.patient.co.
Avatar n tn Regimen for traumatic trigeminal nerve injury: Nutritional supplements: VitaminB1,B6,B12, folic acid, and omega3 fatty acid.you can take more than recommended dose. Medications: Amitriptyline/nortriptyline,gabapentin/pregabalin,minocycline, and dexamethathone. Avatar f tn Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, and because of the potential for tumorigenicity shown for pregabalin in animal studies, decide whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother. Pediatric Use The safety and efficacy of pregabalin in pediatric patients have not been established.
Avatar f tn i've had Keinbocks Disease for over 10 years now, have had 4 operations each one worse than the last but nothing seems to be working. I've been taking TRAMADOL and PREGABALIN for about 4 years now but the pain is getting worse and meds aren't controlling it.Does anyone know of a medication or procedure for this disease that actually works!
Avatar m tn For about a week I've had slight tingling and numbness in my right thumb and right arm after about 2 days of mild pain in my right shoulder blade. Throughout this time I've also had mild pain in my neck. Also when my arm hangs straight down that's when the tingling and numbness is most present in my arm and thumb. I still have full control of my arm and hand but the tingling numbness is both annoying and troubling.

Avatar m tn The only anti anxiety medication iv been on is pregabalin, was on it for over a year but it didnt really agree with me.im currently taking fluxoteine 20mg x 2 a day and cinerazine.Im looking for a anti anxiety drug to help stop this dizziness that iv had for over 2 years,im not looking for a "fix" but something to help me while i battle this anxiety and agoraphobia.Have you ever been on buspar?
983008 tn?1329925830 This is exactly what the neurologist is waiting for and he should see you when the symptoms are most active. The pregabalin is just a med for quieting nerve pain and paresthesias. Waiting for it to be more effective has nothing to do with telling the consultant that you are having a new wave of symptoms. Please urge your GP to try to hurry up the appointment.
Avatar m tn I have been in pain management for 7 years and the pain is persistent and I have radiculopathy and spondylitheisis, a doctor put cadaver bones in the anterior portion of my spine when I had a work related fracture of the body of L3, the anterior portion is just hanging in there all a big scarred mess. There is no fixing I have been told.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Lyrica for over 15 years. It helped with chronic and diabetic nerve pain. I have gone from 500 a day down to 200 a day. I cannot sleep at night, gained weight and have severe itching and may have suicide ideology. If there is another drug you can take, take it.
Avatar f tn Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with a doctor. Without the ability to examine you and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of the symptoms is. However I will try to provide you with some useful information. Your symptoms could be muscular, but given the electric sensations, a nerve problem is a possibility as well. One possibility that comes to mind is a radiculopathy.
1664023 tn?1302961166 I have recently started taking Lyrica for Diabetic Neuropathy, I am on 300mg/day. I am wondering if anyone else that takes this experiences stiff joints or achy muscles??
1818795 tn?1317161112 I have chronic pain due to what my DR says is Radiculopathy (which he said is a fancy term for pinched nerve). I have this in my neck and the pain radiates down my arm, making my arm/hand tingly sometimes. The pain is pretty bad right now, in fact I can barely turn my neck right now and it sorta feels like I have a knot in my neck. I have low back pain as well that comes and goes. I am scheduled for an MRI on Thur to see if possibly I need surgery.
Avatar m tn I suffered a discetomy/laminectomy 20 years ago for a severe L5-S1 herniation. A rather successful operation until now as I've been suffering for leg pain for several months. With the aid of a MRI and an electromiography my neurosurgeon considers it a case of late post-op lumbar fibrosis with a severe radiculopathy from the S1 nerve root. I'm on conservative treatment. (Lyrica150mg/day, Ibuprofen 1200mg/day).
