Pregabalin for peripheral neuropathy

Common Questions and Answers about Pregabalin for peripheral neuropathy

lyrica

Avatar m tn Elavil has often been used for chronic pain although it's become an outdated treatment modality. NEURONTIN and gabapentin are the same thing. Lyrica is a similar drug (pregabalin) used for neuropathy and is a seizure med as well. Hotleo: Give the doctor's recommendation a try and not just one time. Then discuss other options if the side effects don't settle down. Are these meds helping you manage your pain at all?
Avatar n tn Currently, the 2 most effective medications for peripheral neuropathy that we have available are gabapentin (Neurontin) and pregabalin (Lyrica). The latter is a newer drug and is more expensive than the first. I generally tend to start with gabapentin and will switch to pregabalin if the gabapentin isn't doing the trick. The mediactions may not take away all of your symptoms, although ideally, they will dampen them considerably.
Avatar f tn in the States, has unlabeled uses for GAD and SAD, (Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Social Anxiety Disorder) it is primarily prescribed here for fibromyalgia and neuropathic pain associated with peripheral neuropathy. Nowhere can I find that it is beneficial for sleep problems, although one of it's side effects IS "fatigue," I don't think that is the desired effect for a sleep aid.
Avatar f tn Consult an endocrinologist for prescription of drugs like pregabalin, thiamine for the neuropathic pain relief. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn About 6 months ago, I started getting severe lower back pain along with leg and foot pain/tingles/numbness. Doctors first thoughts was a herniated disc along with bilateral sciatica, but and a MRI ruled that out. As time has gone on, I now have arm and hand pain/tingles/numbeness. Every so often I have memory troubles and problems with speech.
1664023 tn?1302961166 I have recently started taking Lyrica for Diabetic Neuropathy, I am on 300mg/day. I am wondering if anyone else that takes this experiences stiff joints or achy muscles??
1658667 tn?1310091382 If you mean you have paresthesias, and sensory symptoms, that is not the same as peripheral neuropathy. Peripheral neuropathy is damage to the peripheral nerves and it is normally diagnosed by EMG/NCS or nerve biopsy. Your feet turning purple seems to be more an indication of a vascular issue than a neurological issue. Raynaud's or PAD maybe.
Avatar m tn My initial diagnosis was sensory peripheral neuropathy but that is coming into doubt because my case is so atypical. My hope is that someone may have seen something that evolved like this and may point me and my doctors to a possible diagnosis. Thank you all in advance.
Avatar m tn I have chemo-induced neuropathy in my feet, resulting in the same peripheral neuropathy just like you, and I have your same indescribable symptoms. I used to have it in both my hands and feet, and talk about a burning pain, hurt SO much to use my hands or walk on my feet, and they were swollen, discolored, and kind of numbish.
381249 tn?1203542924 I know that peripheral neuropathy is a symptom, not a disease. I am diagnosed with secondary progressive MS but I had some signs of peripheral neuropathy too. So I was tested for many many different things. My EMG was fine so were most of my tests as I have already written. Things are getting worse and worse. My legs freeze increasing my spasticity. I cannot stand even minor enviropmental changes. As you understand I am not treated for anything, apart from MS, as we don't know what it is.
Avatar m tn I have severe peripheral neuropathy (PN) in both feet as a result of cancer (Waldenstrom). The cancer has been successfully treated but the PN is steadily getting worse. I tested negative on NCV and EMG. I take Lyrica and Amitriptyline. I'm on my feet for an hour a day wearing Crocs and can't wear shoes. It helps to sit with my feet up (level with my bottom) otherwise they get more painful, swollen and purple. Q: My PN seem different from how most descibe it.
757137 tn?1347196453 Further to "Peripheral Neuropathy," is benfotiamine helpful? I found it on the net, but know nothing about it.
329994 tn?1301663248 My neurologist did an EMG test which showed that I have peripheral neuropathy, but he only did my legs. I have been having pain in my upper shoulders and neck with a burning sensation. I did tell him that prior to my appt. Due to a positive ANA test, he sent me to a rheumatologist. The rheumatologist has run blood work for all kinds of muscle and autoiummune disorders, which isn't back yet and he is sending me for a full body bone scan.
Avatar n tn My surgeon just told me that leg pain is unusual for chiari? I have read people having peripheral neuropathy. Confused help?
Avatar m tn There are many conditions and diseases that can cause nerve damage. For example diabetes is one cause of peripheral neuropathy but there are many other conditions as well. It is best to talked to your doctor to get a diagnosis for what could be the cause of your neuropathy. Your doctor should perform NAFLD Fibrosis Score, Enhanced Liver Fibrosis (ELF) panel and transient elastograph test such as a Fibroscan or a liver biopsy if they suspect you have advanced fibrosis or cirrhosis.
Avatar n tn The latest problems relate to peripheral neuropathy in his hands (and, less so, his feet). They are either burning very painfully or numb and he gets very upset about this, not to mention the fact that it reduces his everyday quality of life. We live in the UK and he has been given tablets which are supposed to take the pain away.
412873 tn?1329174455 To assess whether pegylated interferon alpha (PEG-IFNalpha) may induce peripheral neuropathy or antibodies to peripheral nerve antigens in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. METHODS: We studied 52 patients with HCV (38 men, 14 women; mean age 44.6 +/- 10.6 years) treated with IFNalpha. Before therapy (T(0)), patients underwent quantitative viral RNA determination, HCV genotype analysis, and neurologic and electrophysiologic evaluation.
