Avatar f tn I have been taking Lyrica for over 15 years. It helped with chronic and diabetic nerve pain. I have gone from 500 a day down to 200 a day. I cannot sleep at night, gained weight and have severe itching and may have suicide ideology. If there is another drug you can take, take it.
Avatar m tn I'm 21 and male. I was having arm pains which was caused by neck pain for bad posture on computer desk. So I went to the GP (general medicine) and he said the pain is for the neck, and it will go away and asked me to do some static neck exercise and swimming and prescribed 'Pregabalin m-75' to take for 1 month and stop.
1218873 tn?1300091216 Anyway just before we went, I had an dr. appointment. In short he is changing the Gabapentin to Pregabalin which he is asking my GP to over see when I'd returned from holiday. Also did a blood test for sarcoid, as I have had eye problems, he felt this was unlikley but wanted the test done. If that is negative he is refering me to a specialist for botox which will help the TN pain. So I have returned to find a letter from my GP to go and see him as soon as I return from holiday.

Now the Dr is going to swap me to Pregabalin which has to be done slowly to switch from one to the other, so this will start as soon as I'm home from holiday. Is it used as a mood stabiliser? - I can't find it on the web site ILADVOCATE recomended me a long time ago, does this mean it's not a mood stabiliser or just a new brand?

901222 tn?1399142874 Lyrica (pregabalin) is a GABA analogue, similar to Neurontin (gabapentin). Even though pregabalin is approved for The results are still out on whether or not people suffer neurological dependance on this medication. People using high doses of pregabalin (> 1000 mg/day) report problems stopping this medication. My attitude about certain reported side-effects, like weight gain, is that I'll never know what they'll do to me until I try.
1218873 tn?1300091216 My consultant asked my GP to over see the swap over to Lyrica. So this is the plan. This means to begin with lowering the gabapentin dose by 300mg every 3 days (I'm on 1800mg at the moment) and then when I'm down to 600mg of gabapentin a day I start to add the pregabalin 75mg to begin with then upping it every 3 days till I reach 300mg a day at the same time still reducing the gabapentin to zero. Hope that makes sense.
Avatar n tn Amitriptyline/nortriptyline,gabapentin/pregabalin,minocycline, and dexamethathone. Seeing a neurologist or Orofacial pain specialist who is familiar with management of nerve injury is advised.

Avatar f tn I started this drug last month. My question is did you start at the full dose or buildup to the full dose in 3 days? I am really anxious for it to work but still waiting on a miracle.I too have some side effects but nothing bad enough to quit. This does work better than Lyrica.
Avatar n tn my daughter has had 2 surgeries for pituiatry tumour, radiotherapy, she still has remnant tumour, (Acromegaly) but also has facial ear and neck pain, which prof says is because tumour is pressing on trigeminal nerve, tried amytrplin, never worked, 3 weeks ago prof put her on Pregabalin, small dose then up to 300 a day, within a few days of upping the dose, she has been in more pain than ever, crying, agitated, and said she thought she had pain before, but now this is unbearable, they have told
Avatar f tn Xanax), are Buspar (buspirone) or another one that is fairly new is Lyrica (pregabalin). These do take time to work (several weeks) so they need to be taken on a regular basis. Maybe your doctor will feel more comfortable prescribing one of those. Increasing your dose of Savella will not help with anxiety. It is more for depression and fibromyalgia.
Avatar f tn Several years ago I developed severe itching, which over a few months spread. It started on the left side below my shoulder blade (notalgia paresthetica), then my scalp, then on the edges of my face, then on my left lower back. Scratching felt good but didn't relieve the itch and irritated my skin. Topical creams didn't help. My dermatologist said my (otherwise sensitive) skin looked healthy. He prescribed gabapentin, which I had to ease into to avoid side effects.
Avatar f tn lowdoses of pramipexole and ropinirole can be effective. For disturbed sleep, you may be give medicines like gabapentin, pregabalin, clonazepam. Iron supplements for iron deficiency and low dose narcotics can be tries. Take care.
Avatar f tn Last week I started adding 100 mg of tegretol to my other TN meds (pregabalin and gabapentin) at night. I noticed the next day I was exceptionally groggy. I was also having a lot of muscle pain and weakness (very pronounced at times), particularly in my legs. I also developed pretty pronounced dry mouth, and was also having a problem with slurring my words more. I initially was scared that it was an exacerbation but then realized the sx came on the morning after starting the drug.
Avatar f tn A combination of low dose amitriptyline (10 - 50 mg at night) plus gabapentin (300 - 1800 mg per day) or pregabalin (50 - 600 mg per day) produces the best pain relief with the lowest incidence of side effects. (taken from some site I don't remember) Tegretol, Neurontin, Lyrica, or Keppra are the most used medicines Antidepressants and anticonvulsants are also used Hope that helps, my father just had a severe stroke and we are still waiting for his recovery.
Avatar m tn The treatment for neuropathic pain (pain coming from nerves) includes gabapentin and pregabalin, and medications such as elavil (which is an antidepressant but has actually been found to be helpful with neuropathic pain as well). There are other medications, but these are typically the first line. It is important to keep in mind that the treatment of neuropathic pain takes time to get the doses of medications to an optimal dose.

1218873 tn?1300091216 It was explained to me that the highest dose that had an effect on neurological pain was 1800mg a day a higher dose may be used for epilesy but was not effective on neurological pain. Has anyone found pregabalin (which I believe is also known as Lyrica) to be more effective than Gabapentin?
