1253197 tn?1331209110 I was on 1800mg a day and put on a stone over 4 months! I have now swapped to pregabalin and I am beginning to lose the weight. I changed drug because the Gabapentin was not controling my symptoms enough nothing to do with the weight gain, I am now on 400mg of Pregabalin and I am try to lose the weight I have gained so far I have lost half a stone in about three weeks. I know that there are many people who feel that Pregabalin also makes them put on weight.
210982 tn?1280983895 I was briefly diagnosed with RSD and was prescribed Lyrica for the severe nerve pain I was experiencing. I found that it did take away my nerve pain but at a great cost to me, it messed with my memory and I also gained 30lbs in 6 weeks while I was taking it. Im not totally positive that it alone caused the weight gain, but there wasnt really anything else it could have been.
1252153 tn?1269094321 can anyone tell me what Lyrica is and Savella, in england Lyrica is a company who make a drug called Pregabalin, thats what i am on now, been back to doc 2day and he has give me a larger dose of pregabalin.
Avatar m tn There are a few classes of medication you might suggest that are not based in opioids -- GABA analogues and TCAs. The GABA analogues include gabapentin (Neurontin) and pregabalin (Lyrica). In high enough doses they can relieve some neuropathic pain -- a class of pain that results from pressure on nerves. TCAs are old medicine -- tricylic antidepressants like amitriptyline and nortriptyline. These medications can reduce pain by boosting the neurotransmitter serotonin.
Avatar m tn Pregabalin is known as Lyrica in the States and is prescribed primarily to relieve neuropathic pain if you have diabetes or in the area of your rash if you have had shingles. It is also used to treat fibromyalgia. Pregabalin is used with other medications to treat certain types of seizures in people with epilepsy. Pregabalin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. It works by decreasing the number of pain signals that are sent out by damaged nerves in the body.
2107676 tn?1388973859 I am back on Effexor (which was hell to taper off of), and pregabalin and fighting hard not to take too much pregabalin to ease the withdrawals. Luckily I have been sleeping quite a bit but I'm awake now and feeling like hell. It just seems like I have been through a year of fighting not to go through this hell and here I end up again.
Avatar m tn So, after a year of vitamins and minerals and stopping for maybe 5 days at a time (I relapse due to a need to work without the discomfort, pleasure, and back pain). My question is this (and please do not answer unless you have information) - Question: If you are using opioids as well as the Amino Acid therapy, is the Amino Acid therapy working? Or is it working as effectively if you were not still using opioids?
983008 tn?1329925830 Seen my Dr yesterday and he wanted to get in touch with the neurologist to try and bump my appt up. I asked him to wait as I only started the pregabalin yesterday and my appt is first week in January anyway.
10354469 tn?1409533617 but it feels like i need to run them under cold water or i have to hold a cold water bottle and same thing with my feet. Is this part of fibromyalgia or is it something else? Any one else have this happen to them?
Avatar m tn I'm 21 and male. I was having arm pains which was caused by neck pain for bad posture on computer desk. So I went to the GP (general medicine) and he said the pain is for the neck, and it will go away and asked me to do some static neck exercise and swimming and prescribed 'Pregabalin m-75' to take for 1 month and stop.
Avatar f tn Thanks for that, Tuck. I've had a look through PubMed database to see if there have been scientific studies specifically on the question of tolerance, but without joy. As far as I can tell, the main assumption/claim is that because pregabalin is not known to be metabolically active (ie, the liver and body don't metabolise it into other molecules) the patient shouldn't develop tolerance. I am now a bit more sceptical of that claim.
1218873 tn?1300091216 Hi i wondered if anyone could explain there experience of Pregabalin (Lyrica?) i have been on Gabapentin for the last 3 months with only a little success (the twitches have reduced considerably) but no relief pain. Now the Dr is going to swap me to Pregabalin which has to be done slowly to switch from one to the other, so this will start as soon as I'm home from holiday. I wondered if anyone had done this and what there experience of the drugs are?

Avatar m tn that was present before using opioids, and that returned after opioids were discontinued. People sometimes discuss whether buprenorphine, the active part of Suboxone, fills the 'hole' or empty feeling that is part of borderline personality disorder. I encourage you to avoid 'euphoric recall' about the active using days. People often forget what it felt like to spend your last 80 bucks for a buzz that starts to wear off almost as soon as it starts.
901222 tn?1399142874 Lyrica (pregabalin) is a GABA analogue, similar to Neurontin (gabapentin). Even though pregabalin is approved for The results are still out on whether or not people suffer neurological dependance on this medication. People using high doses of pregabalin (> 1000 mg/day) report problems stopping this medication. My attitude about certain reported side-effects, like weight gain, is that I'll never know what they'll do to me until I try.
Avatar m tn I was put on Hydrocodone in 1991 after a bad accident. I was taking Norco's for many years. I am unfamiliar with the type of opioids you are now on. But, I finally quit after a short tapering. I am now 28 days without any opioids. My pain in my back will never go away either. But, the opioids cause you more pain than you would be in while taking the opioids. That is what I didn't understand until recently. The pain pills CAUSE YOU WAY WORSE PAIN! Opioid Induced Hyperalgesia.
3122908 tn?1342154651 I take its cousin, pregabalin, for nerve pain in my back, and occasionally I run low on them and you would not believe how many aches and pains a person really has until they quit a drug to help all that. It is a fairly mild drug, however, so it's not like you won't be able to function, you just won't be a happy camper.
983008 tn?1329925830 t spoken to my Dr yet as the surgery has been shut over Xmas and I did expect evrything to calm down since increasing the Pregabalin, am currently visiting my lovely stepdaughter for a few days (sitting with my feet up and playing with her laptop) I am seeing my neuro in a few weeks but am wondering if I should visit my Dr again as at this rate I doubt I will be back to work next week - the Hospital did mention putting me on a steroid drip and then changed their minds - is this the way forward?
Avatar f tn I have recently seen my Neurologist, who has confirmed I am suffering with Anxiety and has suggested I go on a drug called Pregabalin and he has said it will help my sleep problem. My question is has anyone had any experiences with this drug, if so comments very welcome.
415399 tn?1209504302 reduced respiration, euphoria, decreased pain. The more opioids ingested the more of an effect. The process of opioids binding to the opioid receptors can be thought of as a mechanical union, the better the fit the more the opioid effect. Buprenorphine is different. It too binds to the receptors, however, without a perfect fit. As a result the Buprenorphine tends to occupy the receptors without all of the opioid effects.
634733 tn?1316625992 Previous to speaking to the him I had been chatting with my MS nurse and we had decided that I would try Pregabalin as Gabapentin had not suited me particularly well in that I gained over a stone in a very short time, and believe me I can't afford to do that! She went off to talk to him and he came back in for a chat and that's when he told me that he thought that it was more likely a faint, although he could not explain the issues that I had following it.
Avatar m tn So my GP prescribed me static neck exercise, swimming and prescribed to take Pregabalin-M 75 (Pregabalin-Methylcobalamine tablets 75mg) For 1 month and then stop. I took 5 doses yet. But I'm having this following side-effects - dizziness, sleepiness whole day, lack of interest and and concentration, bad mood, sexually charged dreams, erection problem and lack of libido or interest in sexual desire. I have a high libido by default. But I'm not feeling it since I took the medicines.
