Avatar f tn in the States, has unlabeled uses for GAD and SAD, (Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Social Anxiety Disorder) it is primarily prescribed here for fibromyalgia and neuropathic pain associated with peripheral neuropathy. Nowhere can I find that it is beneficial for sleep problems, although one of it's side effects IS "fatigue," I don't think that is the desired effect for a sleep aid.
Avatar m tn Pregabalin is known as Lyrica in the States and is prescribed primarily to relieve neuropathic pain if you have diabetes or in the area of your rash if you have had shingles. It is also used to treat fibromyalgia. Pregabalin is used with other medications to treat certain types of seizures in people with epilepsy. Pregabalin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. It works by decreasing the number of pain signals that are sent out by damaged nerves in the body.
Avatar n tn Hi, As, I know about this drug than this drug is taken for anxiety disorder and also, this drug has been taken to decrease the Hot Flashes, and I am not finding that this medicine is use for brest cancer as, there are several other medicines that are used for this as, this is also called Pregabalin and this is a production of Pfizer. Avatar n tn so the thumb twitching could be due to fibromyalgia or a tremor as a result of pregabalin. Consult a neurologist for detailed workup on the cause of this thumb symptom since it is also causing so much of anxiety. Take care.
Avatar f tn gabapentin often requires 1800mg / day to work (built up slowly over time), while pregabalin can be effective at 150mg TID. And the change of side effects build as the does is increased. If cost is an issue, since gabapentin can be effective for neuropathic pain (at high doses) I'd try the gabapentin first and see what happens. If it doesn't work, then i'd try the Lyrica.
Avatar n tn Thanks for advice,I saw rheumatologist last year,he x rayed my spine & did blood test,he said I had 6points out of the 18 for fibromyalgia,he put me on pregabalin & told me that my GP would increase it gradually, after my pain hadnt responded too much to the low dosage,my GP decided to change to gabapentin because he said pregabalin is expensive. I had a MRI 7 years ago on my neck as I have cervical spondylosis.

901222 tn?1399142874 I was in the same boat and I don't know if this will work for you but it did for me. I got on lyrica 100mg. It's non narcotic and helps withdrawal. I think it's actually for fibromyalgia or nerve pain not really sure but I got shot in the face and jumped a year later and they hit me in the jaw with a sledge hammer and it works good for me.

Besides taking medicine prescribed by your doctor, there are many things you can do to minimize the impact of fibromyalgia on your life. People with fibromyalgia also may benefit from: a combination of physical therapy and occupational therapy , learning pain management and coping techniques , properly balancing rest and activity .
2107676 tn?1388973859 I am back on Effexor (which was hell to taper off of), and pregabalin and fighting hard not to take too much pregabalin to ease the withdrawals. Luckily I have been sleeping quite a bit but I'm awake now and feeling like hell. It just seems like I have been through a year of fighting not to go through this hell and here I end up again.

1838963 tn?1318496884 Hi there, headaches and joint pains are suggestive of fibromyalgia. The defining symptoms of fibromyalgia are chronic, widespread pain, heightened pain in response to touch, tingling skin, prolonged muscle spasms, weak limbs, muscle twitching etc. other systemic problems are functional bowel disturbances, sleep disturbances, palpitations, etc. brain fog, short term and long term memory loss, depression etc are also seen. Treatment is only limited and directed to symptomatic relief.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your comments Slightly broken: I will take a copy of the side effects to the neurologist and see what he says! Sarah: I tried Gabapentin but it made me feel very sluggish which is why it was changed to Pregabalin (Lyrica) I am seeing my neurologist in Feb '11 so will ask him what he thinks and will post feedback, this cant go on its making me feel down and very self conscious.
