Avatar m tn Thank you for the reply. I would have never thought prednisone withdrawal would be so difficult. I am hangin' in there and staying positive. Thank you very much Foggy2. It seems the fatigue is the hardest to deal with. I have never experienced fatigue in such an extreme fashion. I am concerned with the last month which will be 1mg every other day. So far it seems I am just one of those people that do better dropping .5mg at a time. Now that I think back I should have been dropping.
Avatar n tn Did the anxiety start while you were on the prednisone or after you stopped? Corticosteroids cause anxiety as one of the most common side effects, as they are basically a form of cortisol, the stress hormone. It's possible the problem is the cortisone itself, and not withdrawal from it, that is the problem, though I'm not sure about withdrawal from this drug.
Avatar m tn My 70 lb 12 year old golden retriever has a skin condition and was on Prednisone last year for about three weeks. She broke out with the same rash a few days ago, and (stupidly) instead of taking her to the vet, I gave her the same dosage of medicine that we had left over from the last time. I gave her 20mg in the morning, 20 in the evening, and then realized that I didn't have enough to complete the course for three weeks.
1842804 tn?1319756311 Please call your doctor if you are not feeling better today and ask for a prednisone taper. You didn't get an oral steroid taper medication after the infusions this time did you? I am in the hospital right now, rehab unit actually, contintuing to recover from the fact that my neuro doesn't believe in giving steroid tapers. He quoted case studies and medical literature that says its not necessary to give tapers after infusions.
Avatar m tn I quickly got off and wound up in withdrawal, I have to go up again and taper slowly. The pain no ever left after getting off and I'm afraid it's permanent. I read similar stories where the pain was permanent. Please help if you know anything about this. Thank you. 785584 tn?1273249232 Actually for 3 days, a taper isn't necessary. They normally taper your dose if you're on it for more than 5 days. I have an inflamnatory arthritis disease like RA. I've never done Pred because I'm diabetic, but I post on a website for spondylitis, and many others are treated with Pred for flare-ups.
Avatar m tn I was WRONGLY stopped abruptly from my daily dosage of 20/mg pred. daily by a doctor and went into crisis - could barely catch my breath for two days and was hospitalized. I don't know where that doctor's head was at! Always taper from prednisone and do so only under a responsible doctor's supervision.
Avatar f tn A friend suggested a 3 day detox but it is $400 a day and I have heard they just give you antiseizure meds, so I would be going through withdrawal anyway. I have tried for about a year now to taper and am finding it difficult. I am going to have my friend hold my pills and just motor through. Can it be done in a month? with such a lower dosage? I also was taking percocets vicodins norcos oxy muscle relaxants and probably almost overdosed a few times.
Avatar n tn What is the effect of sudden discontinuation of steroid pill prednisone 20 mg per day tablet after taking it for 4-5 months.
Avatar f tn May be you need to taper the dose of prednisone as this drug is never withdrawn instantly. Do consult doctor for side effects.
689327 tn?1240229164 ok, man i have asthma too well, i quit smoking a few yrs ago so now my lungs are good but prednisone made me nutz has your doctor given you other options such has zopenex or pulmicord these are mild steriods and if you use them in your nebulizer, and slowly taper off the prednisone your body will have a little help what dose do you take, how many a day?
Avatar m tn Hello Want2befree - That's a lot of oxy to be snoring every day. You're doing some damage for sure, and you need to stop. As for the timing, I know your GF's graduation is important, but this is your life we're talking about. Stop snorting immediately. you're way, way too young to be doing permanent damage to your lungs. As far as quitting, if you want to continue to function, as in go to school and work etc, then you will need to taper.
1716896 tn?1308880762 I was taking 20mg prednisone twice daily for 3 weeks, and my last dose was monday night. Today is Thursday, and I am developing an itchy rash over my whole body, do you think it is related? Also, my heart rate is also 104 at rest and I have a dull headache.
341655 tn?1240368839 ve been on 40+mg of prednisone for nearly 3 months and just quit cold turkey...I have a taper schedule but i hate the side effects of the steroids so much.
446896 tn?1237802742 Hello, I had an allergic reaction to an unknown substance two weeks ago, and was given a taper regime of Prednisone, after my visit to the ER. The first 5 days I took 60mg, the next 5 I took 40mg, and the last 5 days 20 mg. Tomorrow is my last day/pill. This is my first time taking Prednisone and I have had a TERRIBLE experience on this drug!
1024532 tn?1380058352 Definitely follow your doctor's advice, but don't be surprised if you find you need to taper off at a slower pace. Some people must taper off .5 or even .25 mg at a time. It might take a bit of trial and error to find the rate that works best for you.
Avatar m tn Like the title says I'm trying to taper off Clonazepam I've been taking it for I don't know how many months 6or 8 maybe a little less than 6 or more I can't distinctly remember.I'm down to around 3mg a day 3 seperate times and I've tried to go cold turkey but I made it a few days then started again.I have no access to Diazepam so I can't use that so I'm stuck with using Clonazepam.
Avatar f tn Some MS centers have stopped the two week oral taper after IV Pulse therapy. There is some evidence that the low does taper after high dose IV Steroids does very little.
Avatar m tn shakiness, vision issues, muscle spasming, weakness/tingling/numbness in left arm from shoulder down). I was put on a 12 day prednisone regimen and have been off of the drug for 6 days. While on the pred, I experienced insomnia, and slightly increased blood pressure, but my heart rate was around 60 and didn't change. since the 2nd day after weaning off of prednisone, my symptoms have returned (ms), but my heart rate has gone from 60 bpm to 80 bpm, and my BP has gone from 116/60 to 130/80.
Avatar m tn He seems so uncomfortable, is there anything that I can do to make him breathe better or feel better? Or do we just have to let him "suffer" till this taper ends and the Prednisone wears off?
Avatar f tn And how long does the immune system take to build back up to normal? And is this doctors taper schedule slow enough seeing as iv been on it for a month and a bit? Sorry about all the questions I'm just worried.
262527 tn?1285381659 t heard of an oral course of steroids for an exacerbation...only oral prednisone for a weaning dose to ease the symptoms of withdrawal from the IV form of steroid. Sorry no one got back to you but perhaps there is a reason for this such as the oral form not working fast enough to slow the exacerbation? Just a guess from me...hope things work out for you with the IV course though I know it is a pain to have to take 2-3 hours out of your day for it.
Avatar f tn im going to be having a fess surgery and my dr prescribed prednisone on july 1,08 4 pills a day for 4 days and then cut back by 1 pill a day,but it makes me so nervous because i have bad anxiety he said i could take a half a dose so i have been taking 2 tablets aday today is my 4 thr day im wondering how i will tapeer off that cant reach dr till monday my surgery is wed.
Avatar f tn t go away even with a long dose of prednisone. Including the taper i was on it for one month. When I came off the prednisone I had severe withdrawal symptoms (headache, muscle spasms, almost fainting, no energy, etc). Dr then put me back on with a very gradual taper (5 more weeks). I've just come off the prednisone now without incident. I'm still plagued with an uncontrollable cough that won't go away.
Avatar m tn I was having normal bowel movements and starting get build up the repertoire of foods I was able to eat. I started to taper, and made it down to 40mg prednisone over the next few days, but all of a sudden started having bloody bowel movements (but not pain) again. I have no bloating, and no apparent swelling, but am still bleeding. I made no drastic changes in my diet other than increase caloric intake. I also started to exercise again (light weight lifting).
