975514 tn?1324997938 Do people with thyroid or adrenal problems have exaggerated responses to prednisone? I am still waiting for all of my test results from the endo, but I am very curious to know about this one if any one has any input. Thanks in advance.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Prednisone is a bad medicine and can cause lots of bad side effects. You are on a relatively low dose. 1 month at 10 mg should not cause any major problems. You shouldn't have any issues with withdrawal when you go off that dose suddenly. I know people who are 5 mg every day for life. I do question the effectiveness of this dosage though. I think you would benefit fro an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) more than oral pred for long term use. Take care and feel better.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Hello dear and welcome to the medhelp forum. Steroids can be life saving drugs indicated in various conditions but with associated multiple side effects. In the nervous system, it can cause depression and psychosis. Prednisolone can also aggravate pre-existing seizure disorder.

Avatar f tn Has anyone used prednisone to lessen methadone or other opiate withdrawal symptoms?
Avatar n tn Did the anxiety start while you were on the prednisone or after you stopped? Corticosteroids cause anxiety as one of the most common side effects, as they are basically a form of cortisol, the stress hormone. It's possible the problem is the cortisone itself, and not withdrawal from it, that is the problem, though I'm not sure about withdrawal from this drug.
Avatar m tn Thank you for the reply. I would have never thought prednisone withdrawal would be so difficult. I am hangin' in there and staying positive. Thank you very much Foggy2. It seems the fatigue is the hardest to deal with. I have never experienced fatigue in such an extreme fashion. I am concerned with the last month which will be 1mg every other day. So far it seems I am just one of those people that do better dropping .5mg at a time. Now that I think back I should have been dropping.
Avatar m tn My 70 lb 12 year old golden retriever has a skin condition and was on Prednisone last year for about three weeks. She broke out with the same rash a few days ago, and (stupidly) instead of taking her to the vet, I gave her the same dosage of medicine that we had left over from the last time. I gave her 20mg in the morning, 20 in the evening, and then realized that I didn't have enough to complete the course for three weeks.
Avatar f tn I am ok during the winter months. I told my doctor and he said it was ok. I just worry about coming down from the Advair like I used to with Prednisone. Does anyone know about inhalers that can be used in between Advair usage when the asthma isn't bad?
Avatar m tn Can I stop taking the prednisone after one dose of 2 20mg pills or will I suffer sever withdrawal and potentially hazardous reactions? Is it safe to just stop taking prednisone after a single 40mg dose?
Avatar f tn I, too, have severe asthma (as well as lupus and severe arthritis) that has too many times to count put me on high doses of prednisone - at one point I was on 120 mg/day for over a year. I would have severe problems whenever my doctor and I tried to lessen my dose by even 10 mg. In fact, they ended up having to put me in the ICU at the hospital and wean me down VERY slowly through IV steroids.
6537586 tn?1382216791 it seems that when I taper down from the prednisone they joint pain, abdominal pain ,and vomiting comes back. I also get tiny little sores on my skin .
2048234 tn?1330814100 I was put on prednisone for my lungs. its a 7 day treatment but I am reading its very addictive. what do I do? I dont want to get addicted to anything else.
Avatar n tn I have heard that statement numerous times about being weaned off of Prednisone. Why were you taking Prednisone? I am trying to avoid the use of it if possible. I just went to the doctor very sick with congestion, fever, cough, nasal drip, sinus pressure. She told me she thought I might have COPD, and if things did not clear up she also gave me a prescription for Prednisone. I told her I do not want to take it, but she gave me the prescription anyhow in case I needed it.
1716896 tn?1308880762 I was taking 20mg prednisone twice daily for 3 weeks, and my last dose was monday night. Today is Thursday, and I am developing an itchy rash over my whole body, do you think it is related? Also, my heart rate is also 104 at rest and I have a dull headache.
Avatar f tn Has anyone taken it during pregnancy and had no problems with it? I'm 29 weeks pregnant tomorrow ill be 30 weeks and yesterday I had an asthma attack the doctor gave me prednisone to take for 5 days once he let me go home.

Avatar f tn Usually Prednisone raises glucose levels, not lower. One thing to note is if you have been on Prednisone for more than one month, it is important that you do not stop it "cold turkey." This can cause an acute withdrawal reaction that can lead to a crisis situation - you can mess up your adrenal gland where adrenal exhaustion can lead to hypoglycemia. You'll need to travel outside of your area for an evaluation by an Endo. Mine is 50+ miles away one-way.
Avatar m tn I had a bad bout with a virus this past January which ended me up in the hospital for a few days, one thing then led to another and I was on all types of different antibiotics and then finally prednisone for a sinus infection. I had no problems at all with anxiety until after I finished up the prednisone. I got the shakes then and a doctor told me it may be anxiety from being sick on and off for months, so they told me to take a Xanax every day for a few weeks.
