Avatar m tn My 70 lb 12 year old golden retriever has a skin condition and was on Prednisone last year for about three weeks. She broke out with the same rash a few days ago, and (stupidly) instead of taking her to the vet, I gave her the same dosage of medicine that we had left over from the last time. I gave her 20mg in the morning, 20 in the evening, and then realized that I didn't have enough to complete the course for three weeks.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Prednisone is a bad medicine and can cause lots of bad side effects. You are on a relatively low dose. 1 month at 10 mg should not cause any major problems. You shouldn't have any issues with withdrawal when you go off that dose suddenly. I know people who are 5 mg every day for life. I do question the effectiveness of this dosage though. I think you would benefit fro an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) more than oral pred for long term use. Take care and feel better.
Avatar m tn I just took 10mg of prednisone for my asthma Now i have bad pain in my legs and weakness above the knee and my feet are burning anyone else have this happen?
Avatar n tn I have heard that statement numerous times about being weaned off of Prednisone. Why were you taking Prednisone? I am trying to avoid the use of it if possible. I just went to the doctor very sick with congestion, fever, cough, nasal drip, sinus pressure. She told me she thought I might have COPD, and if things did not clear up she also gave me a prescription for Prednisone. I told her I do not want to take it, but she gave me the prescription anyhow in case I needed it.
Avatar n tn She was given steroid and antibiotic injections. Also given Baytril and Prednisone to take home and give daily. She gets Prednisone 20mg 3 times a day. She began heavy breathing on day 2 of the med and also seems to have belly bloating. Is this normal? I called my Vets office and all they said was to bring her in to get seen. But, we have already spent $1300 in one week alone on vet bills. Help!

Avatar n tn My dog is eleven, he weights 13lbs and has been diagnosed with MCTs Grade 3. The Vet prescribed Previcox 57mg, Prednisone 5mg and Benedryl 12.5mg . Last night after giving him the Previcox and Benedryl he started breathing so heavily it was awful. I read online that Previcox and Prednisone should not be taken together. I haven't given him any medication this morning and his breathing is normal and he seems more alert.
Avatar f tn Has anyone used prednisone to lessen methadone or other opiate withdrawal symptoms?
Avatar n tn I was given 3 50mg, pills of prednisone to be taken within 12 hours. As a preventative for an allergic reaction to iodine for a ct scan. After the last pill my breathing is tight, more coughing than usual and wheezing. Could this be caused from the prednisone? How long before it's out of my system?
Avatar m tn Thank you for the reply. I would have never thought prednisone withdrawal would be so difficult. I am hangin' in there and staying positive. Thank you very much Foggy2. It seems the fatigue is the hardest to deal with. I have never experienced fatigue in such an extreme fashion. I am concerned with the last month which will be 1mg every other day. So far it seems I am just one of those people that do better dropping .5mg at a time. Now that I think back I should have been dropping.
1580703 tn?1651904887 what disease have you been diagnosed with that calls for the prednisone? Do you know the side effects of that medication? Side effects from prednisone can include increased thirst and urination, increased appetite and weight gain, dull, dry haircoat, increased panting, vomiting, diarrhea, elevated liver enzymes, pancreatitis, muscle wasting and behavior changes ( depression, lethargy). Source: www.cloudnet.com Prednisone mainly acts to speed up the aging process of the body.
322064 tn?1233257028 NOW, I was told to go to hospital 2 days ago, I have had a very hard time breathing, white blood cell count was 21,000 (10,000 is highest normal) but I was on prednisone, which can increase your wbc count. 4 days after finishing the prednisone I had a repeat blood work and get results today. I've also have a temp of 99.3, night sweats, and since 11/3/08 my pulse has been over a 100 up to 109 and pressure has been normal to low for me.
793908 tn?1294705109 But now, if you have a pancreatitis dog, my understanding is if they are on long-term prednisone, it must be stopped, becuz it can be the culprit in causing it. Prednisone, it is generally believed, if used long-term will shorten a dog's life, among other drugs given to dogs. Now, the pancreas breaks down fat, is all I know about that organ. I do not know what Cushings does to the balance of fat or anything else.
Avatar m tn This helped the muscle aches and shoulder pains which are now gone 1 month after starting prednisone. However breathing difficulty remains. Doc is reducing prednisone now as it has had no effect on breathing difficulty. Went for a lung function test a few days ago no results yet. Doc is going down the road of lung/respiratory problem. Lungs operating at 70%. Is this likely to be Restrictive Lung Disease?? From what I can find out on the net it seems this fits.
Avatar f tn However, the prednisone accelerated the osteoarthritis in my knees and hips, and I am now trying to get off prednisone. And this is the real problem of prednisone. For most people with osteoarthritis in addition to whatever else, prednisone reduces healing in tissues that are inflamed (by reducing inflammation which is part of healing). This is not true for every kind of osteoarthritis..
Avatar f tn My dog was put on prednisone a week ago for low platelet count. She was diagnosed with thrombocyclopenia. They put her on two tablets of 20mg each, twice a day, and she ways 83 pounds. Today they decided to put her on another tablet so now we're up to 60mg twice a day. Her breathing seems more shallow, she's not panting, but not normal either. I am worried this is too much for her system to take. Does this seem right??
975514 tn?1324997938 I was talking with my husband about prednisone. He has taken it off and on throughout his life for various joint inflammation. He has never had trouble coming off of it whether he was tapered off or not. I have had trouble each and every time I have been on it (for asthma related issues mostly). I always thought I was having "withdrawal" symptoms- horribly aching joints, pain, anxiety, sweats, something that sounds a lot like opiate withdrawal if you ask me.
Avatar f tn In this regard it would be helpful to know what are your son’s peak flow measurements, when he is severely short of breath, and if there is a component of difficulty breathing in as well as the expected (with asthma) difficulty breathing out and to know if his doctor’s PFT’s included measurements of inspiratory air flow rates.
Avatar n tn Felt exhausted after serious bout of bronchitis and long term use of Prednisone. Tested positive for hypothyroid and put on Synthroid 50 mcg daily. OK for two days. A little sick on the third day. Thought I would die on the fourth day. My stomach was so upset with a burning sensation. I was nauseous and I developed a bad headache with horrible dizziness. Do you think that I have been mis-diagnosed?
446896 tn?1237802742 the swollen bronchial tubes and tight chest which makes each breath seem like a job, or no problems breathing while on Prednisone but have to suffer anxiety attacks that simulate not being able to breath? They gave me Flovent and said that while it has Prednisone in there, that I wouldn't suffer from the anxiety... but I did. Washing mouth out just not enough, I still feel the anxiety from the inhaler just as much as the pill.
Avatar n tn t know if it was a virus intially--it felt that way--scratchy throat, tender glands, ears plugged. That all persists, after two courses of antibiotics and prednisone. I am also nebulizing with albuterol every 4-6 hours. The bronchitis seems to have resolved, but when I venture outside my home even briefly, I get horrible attacks of coughing & nasal mucous. I feel trapped!
Avatar n tn The fact that his breathing problem disappears while he is on prednisone, is because the prednisone turns off his immune system, and his body loses the ability to REACT negatively to the toxic mold that he is breathing in (I'm not a doctor, but am speaking from my first hand experience with toxic mold reactions.) Just remember, that a 2 week vacation in Disneyworld is a far less invasive procedure than a using a scalpel.
Avatar f tn I had the breathing trouble, but not the prednisone or the abnormal bloodwork.. Except that I am now anemic. It probably has nothing to do with the asthma medicine though. I hope everything turns out well. Good luck!
2048234 tn?1330814100 I was put on prednisone for my lungs. its a 7 day treatment but I am reading its very addictive. what do I do? I dont want to get addicted to anything else.
