Common Questions and Answers about Prednisone with ibuprofen

Avatar n tn Hi, I was diagnosed with AIHA, and it was due to high doses of ibuprofen (2400mg-3200mg daily). This was an idiosyncratic reaction to ibuprofen. Apparently even with the withdrawal of the drug the proteins remained being placed on the red blood cells, so I continued to have hemolysis even after withdrawal. I was on prednisone for almost a year, and Prednisone worked but as soon as I was tappered off this med, the hemolysis came back.
1182699 tn?1297574784 I think there is very little if any affect on blood pressure (ibuprofen). But, I know it is generally accepted that aspirin (ibuprofen too I assume) has some heart benefits. I think most or all of that comes from the affect aspirin has on the blood platelets, makes them more slippery ( I think) - thus less chance of a clot formation, maybe some lowering of blood pressure, but I still think very little affect on BP.
Avatar f tn I have been taking ibuprofen for years and have not had any problems. Within the past year I noticed that after taking Advil I started breaking out with hives under my eye. I have never had this problem then it started. I was wondering if anyone has ever had this happen to them and what if any were the causes identified. I am 30 years old and a smoker. Also, it doesn't happen all the time but only sometimes. I don't know what would cause this to happen and not consistently.
Avatar f tn Ibuprofen (motrin ) is NSAID, this helps me stopping my red rashes in the abdomen caused by stomach enzymes prostaglandin whenever i ate foods with fatty acids. You said ibuprofen is the cause of rashes, maybe not, some other foods maybe. Did your rashes coming back again? what is your new medicine?. Thanks for sharing.
Avatar f tn I was put on a 2 week coarse of Prednisone along with ibuprofen. By the end I had developed an issue swallowing pills. Even my small thyroid ones felt like they got stuck. Then it progressed to coughing up small hard bits of food, severe reflux, etc. After too much testing, the problem mostly resolved except for lingering occasional esophageal spasms and the thought that some was just hypersesivity.
Avatar n tn Many of the symptoms you describe are side effects of the medicine you have been on -- such as ibuprofen and prednisone. The question is whether something is underlying all of this? You have had testing but it is difficult to know what it means. it seems that your MRI would be important but I obviously cannot see it and therein lies the problem. I cannot tell what is atypical about it. Lyme was presumably tested in your spinal tap and this does sound like it.
Avatar n tn Now I am on my third dose of methotrexate along with prednisone. The Dr. is trying to overlap the prednisone until the methotrexate kicks in. Tachycardia persists and is relieved with Metoprolol 50mg 2 x day. I have palpitations and skipped beats. I'm very tired, fatigued. I have not been able to work since September of last year. CT Scan shows evidence that my pericardium is thickened but I am not constrictive at this point.
649758 tn?1229841488 If you are actively trying to get pregnant, you should really check with your doctor to see if you should be on it (if you are currently taking it). Also find out how long it has to be out of your system, ideally, before getting pregnant.
Avatar f tn My doctor gave me a prescription for oral prednisone to help with the side effects. I took 600 mg of ibuprofen at night, before my injection. Drink LOTS of water for 24 hours! Then I took 5-10 mg of oral prednisone, the morning after the injection. It really helped!! Like you, I couldn't tolerate the side effects, but this combination virtually removed the problem for me.
1125622 tn?1295420118 Was treated with a single dose (60 mg) of prednisone, as well as a breathing treatment and ibuprofen. I recently had the flu, and I was nervous going to the hospital, I dont want a recurance of infection, or to pick up a new infection! My question is this: How much impat would that one dose have on my immune system, also I thought with steroids you allways had to taper down doses? Thank you so much for any answer!
Avatar n tn anyway, 3 days ago she gave me prednisone to help with the swelling along with biaxin. The prednisone helped my swollen tonsils, but the glands in my neck keep getting worse. No ibuprofen helps the pain of it, which is causing me a lack of sleep. Is there anything else I have possibly overlooked? I'm not exhausted all the time at all. my entire neck is killing me and behind my ears and head, occasionaly my jaw and armpits too.
Avatar f tn Had a TURP four years ago and urologist say prostate has not enlarged again but this is driving me to distraction. Have been given, prednisone, cipro, gabapentin, ibuprofen, pyridium. Nothing is working; well, it works for a little while but then it's like taking nothing. Feels like if I could ejaculate it would ease it but can't seem to do that. Now, however, the burning pain has moved down to the perineum.
Avatar f tn The argument over use of oral prednisone is long-standing. The answer is yes, use of oral prednisone definitely predisposes a person to new infections, both viral and bacterial. That being said, once a given strain of flu is defeated natural antibodies prevent re-infection with that exact strain. It's like getting a vaccination. With oral prednisone the problem is risk vs. benefit. Prednisone affects different people in different ways.
Avatar m tn The Prednisone I took in combination with antibiotics finally eliminate my sinus infection (it was a side of the treatement and I have suffered a lot from that), since then I don't have any more the sinus problem and don't have anymore fever (only once in few days), so I am not using any more Paracetamol or other fever reducer.
Avatar f tn m reading your post and I sympathize with your pain. I used to be on 60mg of Prednisone alongside with Calcium pills and Percuset (not sure I spelled that right....a pain killer) from August to the middle of November. I was in constant pain; i would wake up in the middle of the night howling....my calves, feet, side, every muscle in my body (alongside the pain in my breast) would be on fire.
Avatar f tn I now have intense burning pain in the bottom left side of my neck/upper shoulder area. I told my doctor who put me on Prednisone for 5 days. He also took an x-ray and although a screw was not in straight, he said it looked fine. He told me that I irritated the nerves too early. Well, that was about a week and a half ago and I am still in a lot of pain. My pain pills, muscle relaxant, Lyrica, and Gabapentin don't even begin to touch the pain.
1386405 tn?1291587800 hi this i defo something no about with my last pregnancy i had severe headaches and i was taking ibuprofen i was taken them all the time but i finally went to the doctors because the pain wouldn't settle and the doctor said DO NOT take ibuprofen just take cocodomal i think thats how you spell it lol.
Avatar f tn Is it true you shouldn't take ibuprofen it can harm the baby? I just seen this today while doing research as to this is my first. i have been taking it before I found out I was thinking my period was coming and I've always had bad cramps so I know to start taking it before my period comes to help with the pain. Should I be worried that I've harmed the baby from taking it? I'm 5 weeks BTW.
Avatar f tn is it safe to take ibuprofen when pregnant? Just once? Ran out of tylenol.
Avatar f tn Is 3-6 200mg Ibuprofen a day for a 3-6 days a week bad for you over a long period of time?
