Yeah, the taste and all those symptoms are some of the side effects of prednisone. I had to take it for a week about a month ago because I had terrible bronchitis. I got really, really depressed. Just remember its the medication and when you are done with it, you will feel normal again. I hope you feel better soon.
I was put on Prednisone 40mg for 5 days for lingering breathing problems from a URI. I knew this med was bad the moment I popped in my mouth to swallow it and could taste how bad.
While on this med and being off it the past few days, it caused me to have bad reflux and caused me bad mental effects.
I have taken muscle relaxers, migraine meds, prednisone (6 days) and more and more Skelaxin. I started seeing a neurologist two weeks ago and he put me on the prednisone and skelaxin he also did a MRI (w/o contrast) that came back negative.
I take oral prednisone (not sure if its same as what you have) although mine come in 25mg and 5mg so I can taper the dose easily. I dont know how I would having to take that many in a day but I can tell you they are very bitter so only take as many as you can easily wash down with water... if they so much as touch your tongue its foul and takes ages to get rid of the taste.
I have been getting over a recent bout of bronchitis where I was prescribed Augmentin (I am on Day 6) and Prednisone short burst (finished 2 days ago) I am still coughing quite bad but the fever has broke... but as of yesterday the phlegm/mucus I am coughing up tastes extremely salty. I have not been using any type of saline spray, or gargling with salt water, so I know this is not the reason. Is it the antibiotics causing this? Or is there another reason?
My symptoms are dry mouth, coated tongue , inflamed taste buds , chemical taste in mouth, sporadic tight throat, and I taste blood and my whole mouth just feels awful. I doubt y'all will know what it is but any advice? I attached a picture below. I'm a 24 year old male with no known health issues and am on no meds.
Saw my family doctor yesterday and she prescribed Prednisone 40 mg. I still feel that I should have appt. with Neurologist who put me on Tegretol and saw me in the beginning. I feel I have been brushed off. Prednisone is a real battle when dealing with sugar levels.
He is still very active, purring, shiney coat, eating, drinking....so we elected to try a course of Prednisone, although the third vet we went to was strongly pushing surgery and Chemo. After waiting a week and speaking to a variety of doctors we finally got a prescription for Pred. Starting out the first week with 2 pills every 12 hours and then wheening him off week by week slowly.
I guess I would just like to know can there be a sweet/foul taste that alternates with this metallic taste. I take prednisone (5mgs), mobic, and lyrica and have for over two years. Could any of these be the cause? Does anyone know if this taste thing could just disappear just like it one day appeared. It's horrible. I eat to cover it up but nothing makes it go away. I brush constantly, some days I constantly keep hard candy in my mouth. Does anyone know if this will get worse?
I was wondering if taking prednisone was making you lose taste or smell?I was on Feb.2008 and havent been able2taste hardly or smell.I had a severe bronchial infection that was likely pneumonia but never diagnosed correctly.prednisone helped after day12 but only took half the recommended dose b/c docs tend2overmedicate us and i read that we should only try half recommended dose.it may work better.my symptoms got better and went away but i now have long term taste and smell loss.
thank goodness for spell checkers to spell solu-medro, i have a hard time even pronouncing it.
last week the right foot went numb and a few days later at a normal scheduled follow up appt, my neuro prescribed solu-medro. i did it in the hospital for 3 infusions. foot is still weak but the "dead numb" areas are not near as large. so either it is working or time is helping or both.
my question is does it make one a bit "wired" and a bit "spacey".
The bumps on my tongue are now midway toward the front of my tongue, they are red, and much larger (sort of flat looking) than taste buds. While I brushed my teeth and gently brushed my tongue I noticed lesions on my tongue when I spit, even with clear water, it has a hint of bright red (blood) in it. The lesions on my tongue, by this third day, are almost 1/2 deep as my tongue is thick.
Lortabs will have no effect on your condition as discussed here. If you are in pain, they will alleviate that, and they can help you rest. You can stop the Lortabs whenever you wish. The sooner the better and they can be adicting.
I will get numbness in my face and head that will travel in a matter of days all around the right side of my face and head in different places. This time it spread to my tongue which caused taste loss for a few days. Around the same time I get major vertigo which will not go away unless I take a high dose of prednisone. My vertigo has been the worst of all symptoms, but seems to come at its worst around spring time. It will last about a month and prevents pretty much any physical activity.
After a bad cold, I was left with some loss of and distorted sense of smell and taste, sort of like pungent sour milk. Mild sinus symptoms, right nostril mildly stuffed. ENT said it's a mild case & saw a bit of mucus, prescribed prednisone & antibiotics. However, I'm almost done with the course for both and NO CHANGE. What could this be, and is there hope that this will clear up if it hasn't already? Please help!

I had cervical disc fusion in 10/2008, and wonder if there is a compressed nerve (Neurosurgeon refuses to follow up)..I had bone spurs also and stenosis. I went to my regular GP who ordered a brain mri to rule out MS. I did show "few non-specific hyperintensities on t2/flair".
A feeling that my face was about to cave in, Vertigo that would keep me in bed for days. ringing in my ear. inner and outer ear infections. blood taste in my mouth. And very hard crystal looking discharging from my ear. Im sure there is more but anyways 7 Dr.s all said, there was nothing wrong. I demanded a cat scan, nothing wrong. Months later my 17 year old son son was reading the cat scan and said, go back and tell them to due another cat scan but check sinuses not a brain scan.
I have been prescribed prednisone for a hearing loss issue today. Ive been und since July 2011. I have not yet taken my post tx vl test although all my blood work looks good. I was wondering if anybody has any info on this. I looked on past posts and found it all to be old and not real specific. Thanks ahead of time!!
However, the prednisone accelerated the osteoarthritis in my knees and hips, and I am now trying to get off prednisone.
And this is the real problem of prednisone. For most people with osteoarthritis in addition to whatever else, prednisone reduces healing in tissues that are inflamed (by reducing inflammation which is part of healing). This is not true for every kind of osteoarthritis..
