He also prescribed a course of Prednisone to start after I have the MRI's. Any of you who have been on this steroid, would you please give me some info about your outcome and side effects? Thanks!
I lost my job and my medical coverage and have been taking Prednisone, 15mg per day, as a stop gap. This is the only medication I have used which stops this condition and allows me to have a mostly normal resperatatory function with a loss of taste and smell and a mild congestion in my throat. I'm now starting to have side effects from this medication which includes: hot flashes, weight gain, hives, and some blurred vision.
With some meds with bad taste it helps to swallow it in a huge gump of applesauce instead of water. Prednisone leaves a bad taste for me for hours and when I use applesauce I dont notice it.
He is still very active, purring, shiney coat, eating, drinking....so we elected to try a course of Prednisone, although the third vet we went to was strongly pushing surgery and Chemo. After waiting a week and speaking to a variety of doctors we finally got a prescription for Pred. Starting out the first week with 2 pills every 12 hours and then wheening him off week by week slowly.
There seems to be lots ofswelling in my back, which I have had before but not this bad. I also have been experiencing a bitter taste in the back of my mouth after eating just about anything. Might be due to splenda? It comes and goes too. And about before the twitching started, I had about a month of dizziness, which I have had before & figured was stress too. I had a rash on my leg for over a year which the Dermatologist said was ringworm, but perhaps Lyme?
Oh, and it's very minor in the whole scheme of things, but high doses of prednisone also give me a kind of metallic taste in my mouth that makes everything I eat taste funny.
figure that if I am not possibly getting blood to my scalp, then hair loss makes sense), tinnitus, numb ears, numb face, lack of ability to taste most foods, photophobia is also an issue. I had cervical disc fusion in 10/2008, and wonder if there is a compressed nerve (Neurosurgeon refuses to follow up)..I had bone spurs also and stenosis. I went to my regular GP who ordered a brain mri to rule out MS. I did show "few non-specific hyperintensities on t2/flair".
During the IV's they gave me wintergreen lifesavers to suck on because of the metal taste, but within a few hours the metal taste was gone. I'm honestly just not really hungry. I'm eating like normal, just because I worry if i don't it'll make the tired and shakiness worse, but I could probably eat less and not miss it. Did your doctor give you anything to help you sleep or to help settle your tummy? I've had prilosec (sp?
While I was taking the prednisone, I lost all sense of taste and had a tight feeling on my skin and my skin became very dry. I completed the prednisone almost a week ago, BUT now my face has started to swell. Is this normal once your off the medication? I can understand it happening while taking it, but am not sure if it starts after your finished with it. It's really starting to scare me and I'm not sure what to do. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated......thank you!!!!
I did 3 days of IV steroids starting April 26th, and have been on the prednisone taper since. My doctor gave me all kinds of medicines to take along with the prednisone. Ok, only two, but for someone who hates to take medicine that's a lot LOL I've taken prilosec everyday to prevent tummy troubles. Also, I've been taking a sleeping pill each night. I can take one or two, and up till this past week I've pretty much taken 2. I also take gabapentin every night, usually 300 or 400mg.
After the surgery I started to develop what I thought was a cold. However after about a week I was unable to smell or taste anything at all. I called my allergist and he put me on an antibiotic and prednisone (steroid). It has been ten days and I have not recovered. I still cannot really smell very well or taste, and I have several swollen glands in my neck. Do you think this is a side effect of anesthia, and will it eventually go away?
He is considering reverting to Hydrocortisone (instead of Prednisone). Since prednisone stays in one's system for much longer than hydrocortisone, could he still have an ACTH Stim test? If so, how? Also, since he is feeling better (but not completely himself) he is considering hiking a mountain this week. Should I be concerned? He has not yet been given the tools or meds to give himself an injection. I am new to this forum.
I guess I would just like to know can there be a sweet/foul taste that alternates with this metallic taste. I take prednisone (5mgs), mobic, and lyrica and have for over two years. Could any of these be the cause? Does anyone know if this taste thing could just disappear just like it one day appeared. It's horrible. I eat to cover it up but nothing makes it go away. I brush constantly, some days I constantly keep hard candy in my mouth. Does anyone know if this will get worse?
Are you taking prednisone because of your loss of taste and smell, I wonder? If so, I would be a little concerned (actually, more than a little) that a powerful drug (which an oral steroid is) was being used to take aim at a symptom that it was might not be capable of hitting. It may be that your taste and smell problems, assuming that they can be reversed, will be taken care of as your thyroid problem is brought under control.
Yeah, the taste and all those symptoms are some of the side effects of prednisone. I had to take it for a week about a month ago because I had terrible bronchitis. I got really, really depressed. Just remember its the medication and when you are done with it, you will feel normal again. I hope you feel better soon.
Within 6 hours of my first dose, I started to notice that I was burping (not audibly) and I noticed a distinct sulphur or egg taste. Is this a side effect of taking Prednisone or merely a coincidence? It is very distressing. I have tried antacids and they do not help.
My doc prescribed some prednisone. I started taking 8 tablets and i'm supposed to reduce 1 dose every day which is what i'm doing. But i did a bit of research about prednisones online and there are so many side effects including swelling! I had an allergic reaction and my face swelled up a little and my lips was swollen, but by taking this medicine, will i swell up again? Isn't it supposed to help get rid of everything related to allergy?
pain is temporarly got relief. four months back i loss my taste(i can't taste coffeee, sweets, salt). i called my neurologist. he told me to stop all medicine, i consulted my family physicial he told me to take second chance. so i went to some other neurologist. he did bloof test again he said the it seems to be lupus. he recommended to go to rhemotolosts.
I have had a loss of taste&smell since Feb.2008 and I cannot seem2do anything2get it back.I seem2taste simple things like corn products, tea or gatorade but everything else i have a complete loss of taste.I think it may be related to sinuses or allergy.Iwas on prednisone zpac for 2 wks for a bronchial infection that may have been pneumonia.shortly after that i lost my taste and sense of smell gradually over time.can anyone help? i hear zinc and B12 supplements may help.
I'm not sure how it came back but I can taste food but mildly. And in the last week, most foods I can not eat, they taste like they are rancid. (All meat, pizza, french fries, kentucky fried are the worst) Has anyone experienced this and know what causes it or how to cure.

I also get thursty If I dont drink water. I start to get a dry throat and mouth... If i drink anything else that is not water my breath gets worse.. please help!
headaches If I take a steroid like prednisone, my taste and smell return to some degree and the congestion abates.....but my hearing does not improve.......what can i do? This all started about two years after intense chemotherapy .......Is it possible to have a food allergy? What can I do? or am I going to have this problem for my life...... I currently have no insurance and future insurance looks bleak. This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/284725'>polyps?
He numbed the nose even. Apparently my left nostril is inflammed so he gave he prednisone and I have to take it for two weeks before seeing him. After the appointment I went and ate breakfast which I could easily taste. Now its the evening and I have no taste nor smell. Is the inflammation causing this? Help!
The RAI sometimes will stir-up thyroid proteins, increasing the immune system attack in Graves patients and less commonly in patients treated for nodular thyroid. The taste buds can be off for a few weeks - this will recover -- sour candies may help stimulate salivation/taste. The hives will improve as the thyroid becomes ablated by the RAI -- prednisone may be necesary for a short-term.
This isn't a big deal, but just wondering...can copaxone cause a bad taste in your mouth and make your food taste yucky? I'm not "concerned", but just curious. Maybe it will help me not to eat from nerves...
I have had an upper respiratory (bronchial) infection and have been taking albuterol and prednisone inhalers for 1 week. My sputum has suddely turned very salty. This has happened in the past respiratory infections too. I have a history of bronchial asthma with flus and colds and have had pneumonia in the past. Does the change to extremely salty taste in my sputum indicate any medical information?
I have been getting over a recent bout of bronchitis where I was prescribed Augmentin (I am on Day 6) and Prednisone short burst (finished 2 days ago) I am still coughing quite bad but the fever has broke... but as of yesterday the phlegm/mucus I am coughing up tastes extremely salty. I have not been using any type of saline spray, or gargling with salt water, so I know this is not the reason. Is it the antibiotics causing this? Or is there another reason?
My symptoms are dry mouth, coated tongue , inflamed taste buds , chemical taste in mouth, sporadic tight throat, and I taste blood and my whole mouth just feels awful. I doubt y'all will know what it is but any advice? I attached a picture below. I'm a 24 year old male with no known health issues and am on no meds.
That is one thing about Prednisone. It intensified my sense of taste. Follow-up with my surgeon is on Tuesday the 29th. I thinks she plans to pass me off to a Rheumatologist at that point, although they are available to aspirate as needed. I am OK with this. I hope to go to a Health food store and get some of the clay Amy suggested to help with pain. I really do not want to continue with the drugs if I can avaoid it. We will see. Diet, exercise, sleep....and clay. I will keep you all posted.
After 5 days on Prednisone recommended by a non smell specialist, a neurologist, I started to feel a strange metallic industrial taste which seems to be whatnothers call parosmia. First thought: I'm smelling! Second thought: parosmia :( Mi. Couldn't find indications online that parosmia might be due to recovery start or so... Oh well. I am feeling better on 5 days of lexapro, but incredibly sad for anosmia. No words can describe it.
