341655 tn?1240368839 ve been on 40+mg of prednisone for nearly 3 months and just quit cold turkey...I have a taper schedule but i hate the side effects of the steroids so much.
1024532 tn?1380058352 Definitely follow your doctor's advice, but don't be surprised if you find you need to taper off at a slower pace. Some people must taper off .5 or even .25 mg at a time. It might take a bit of trial and error to find the rate that works best for you.
Avatar f tn Some MS centers have stopped the two week oral taper after IV Pulse therapy. There is some evidence that the low does taper after high dose IV Steroids does very little.
Avatar m tn He seems so uncomfortable, is there anything that I can do to make him breathe better or feel better? Or do we just have to let him "suffer" till this taper ends and the Prednisone wears off?
Avatar m tn I was having normal bowel movements and starting get build up the repertoire of foods I was able to eat. I started to taper, and made it down to 40mg prednisone over the next few days, but all of a sudden started having bloody bowel movements (but not pain) again. I have no bloating, and no apparent swelling, but am still bleeding. I made no drastic changes in my diet other than increase caloric intake. I also started to exercise again (light weight lifting).
Avatar m tn My 70 lb 12 year old golden retriever has a skin condition and was on Prednisone last year for about three weeks. She broke out with the same rash a few days ago, and (stupidly) instead of taking her to the vet, I gave her the same dosage of medicine that we had left over from the last time. I gave her 20mg in the morning, 20 in the evening, and then realized that I didn't have enough to complete the course for three weeks.
Avatar n tn Yes, I had been on prednisone AND prednisolone drugs, and each time, I was tapered. My doctors warned me not to decide on my own to just stop the slow taper. The taper went on for weeks and I was seen weekly pr bi-weekly at the time. I was on glucocorticosteroids for months. Also, have been around folks with terrible asthma and other bad illnesses who required prednisone and prednisolone for a spell.
1125622 tn?1295420118 As a matter of fact you need to be on it longer then a week before a taper is even considered. Using prednisone for under a month will not result in long term side effects. However being on multiple prednisone treatments through out the year is additive and you could experience more serious side effects. Ideally for asthma you shouldn't require more then 1 or 2 prednisone (14 -16 days) treatments per year for asthma exacerbations.
Avatar f tn I am currently on 80mg of prednisone, for probably Lupus that is imflamming my brain an causing severe nerve pain, confusion and weakness. Hard to diffrentiate that from withdrawals, but keep trying to blame it on the drugs as I am so scared. I felt psycotic this am- but the dose of narcs didn't help, so probably not withdrawals but who knows. The meds aren't helping with the nerve pain, THough I cut down today 1/2 tab of each dosage of the NOrco's.
1207048 tn?1282174304 When I saw my neuro the other day he mentioned something about rebound symptoms when I'm off the prednisone taper. I did the first round of IV steroids/prednisone for vertigo and it did not come back after (though I will get a bit if I'm overtired, just for a minute or two then it stops). This round of steroids is because of burning/stinging in my feet which moved up my right leg, causing tingling and sometimes electric shock feelings. After the 3 days of IV this was pretty much gone.
3244521 tn?1346861134 Roughly, 6 months ago I had a severe asthma attack, went to the hospital and they put me on a 2 week taper of Prednisone. The longest and highest dosed taper I have ever taken. by the 4th day I started experiencing problems: Blurred Vision; the need to urinate often, constant dry mouth. overall uneasy feeling. Went to the Dr., he decided to get a AC1 test. which returned 422. I asked if it could be the high dosage of Prednisone he said no, that I was T2 diabetic.
Avatar f tn I am new to this forum, so not exactly sure how this works. I have had MS for 30 years, been on Copaxone for 8 years and haven't had problems until this Spring. I had a horrible cold, sinus drainage, etc. that would not go away. Dr. gave me antibiotics, didn't help. Then he gave another antibiotic, felt a little better, but still not well. Had a fever for over a month too. Finally I saw a different Dr. and she sent me for a CAT scan that day, I had TOTAL opacification in my sinus.
Avatar n tn My guess is that what you're experiencing IS from teh prednisone and should dissipate in a few days. I've been on prednisone quite often in my life and I also experience the same thing sometimes - my face will get beet red, feel hot to the touch (but I'm not running a fever) and will feel tight and dry.
Avatar n tn Tomorrow is my last Prednisone in a taper. I am diabetic and my blod sugars have been high. Yesterday as high as 382. Walked and drank lots of water and got it down to 193 with my medication Metformin. Today it is 247 and I have eaten hardly any carbs. Is it okay to not take the last Prednisone?
1207048 tn?1282174304 I remember during the last prednisone taper my joints were achy for a few days. This started up again this time around. Except yesterday it was beyond achy. I hurt from my shoulders/upper back through my arms. My upper arm muscles feel like I've been lifting heavy weights for hours. My elbows and wrists, especially, but also my hands, sting.
Avatar f tn My cardio Dr. does not want to treat me any longer for the prednisone taper, now he says after over a year that he is not qualified to do so. My Endo Dr. does not want to do it, says its a cardio problem. I almost died and now this. I am currently on only 7.5 mg of prednisone a day, but I can't seem to get past that number. Does anyone have a problem like this ? I doubt it. I have so many regrets that I had this done. I feel the Dr.
Avatar m tn After taking much medicine(IMMURAN, PLAQUENIL AND PREDNISONE)FOR 5 MONTHS MY RHEUMATOLOGIST AGREED I COULD TAPER OFF PREDNISONE WHICH I DID ON MAY 23,2012. ON JUNE 11,2012 I WENT TO THE DENTIST FOR MY SEMIANNUAL DENTAL CLEANING. THE STORY ENDS WHEN .ON JUNE 25,2012 I STARTED C/O OF JOINT PAIN, FEVER,HAIR LOSS AND FATIGUE. I AM FLARING AND BACK ON PREDNISONE. I AM 67Y/O AND HAVE RA AS WELL. I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH LUPUS 4 YEARS AGO.
Avatar n tn My doctor, an internist, seem to think that I could taper down from 20 prednisone (upped in case it was a crisis) to possibly 0, within 6 months, although I've been on long term prednisone... Is this common?
785584 tn?1273249232 Actually for 3 days, a taper isn't necessary. They normally taper your dose if you're on it for more than 5 days. I have an inflamnatory arthritis disease like RA. I've never done Pred because I'm diabetic, but I post on a website for spondylitis, and many others are treated with Pred for flare-ups.
Avatar f tn I’ve been prescribed 40g of prednisone a day for 7 days due to 2 months of what feels like hell from my facial and neck skin condition. After seeing horror stories of skin conditions coming back even more extreme after stopping this kind of drug to quickly, I’m very nervous that ive been told to just stop taking them instead of lowering the dose gradually. Please can you help with advice on how you would recommend this course to be taken.
Avatar f tn Hi I am on day 4 of a prednisone taper for sudden low frequency hearing loss and tinnitus. I am concerned about side hearing loss, and side effects of medication. I thought prednisone increased energy, I am exhausted. My tinnitus keeps changing ears and volumes. Has anyone else experienced this and what other side effects have you experienced after 3 weeks on this stuff?
Avatar f tn They already taper my prednisone to 20mg everyday and my doctor gave me a new meds.which is Imuran and im taking it every night and when I woke up I'm having a headache I don't know if it's with the medicine or because I'm having a fever. The doctor don't have a final diagnosis of what it is. Before I undergo thoracoscopy the anesthesiologist spoke to me and she read my chart and she was surprise and said my case was interesting because all my test was negative.
