Avatar f tn I am also diabetic @ bood sugars are higher than usual is this a side effect of prednisone, have 3 more days on prednisone should I stop?
Avatar n tn Those sound like normal side effects of prednisone. Nasty drug but can save a dog's life. My golden has been taking 50mg daily for 2 months and the side effects are horrible.
Avatar m tn I recently cam down with moderately bad case of poison ivy. I went to my dermatologist who was not present and was seen by the physicains assistant. She prescribed a burst of prednisone (5 days 2x20mg, 5 days 1x10mg). I took my first dose immediately (2x20mg). The rash began to subside but I don't like the side effects (insomnia) and would rather sit out the poison ivy. I wish the p.a. had discussed the potential side effects before prescriing this highly potent drug.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Steroids can be life saving drugs indicated in various conditions but with associated multiple side effects. In the nervous system, it can cause depression and psychosis. Prednisolone can also aggravate pre-existing seizure disorder. Certain precautions that your physician would be taking care of are, using the lowest possible dose, for the shortest time, alternate day dosing can be followed if possible, and gradual withdrawal to limit the adrenal suppression.
975514 tn?1324997938 I have seen several people I know that were on high doses of prednisone for a life threatening illness. Weight gain, water retention, and moon face are the side effects. Hmmm, sounds just like hypo? 20 some years ago, I got kenalog (corticosteroid) shots for hay fever. I gained 30 stinking pounds in 60 days! My Dr. said he had never heard of this. Maybe I was just hungry? My little sis gets kenalog shots all the time and she is 99 lbs. It doesn't effect her weight at all.
Avatar f tn I have chronic osteoarthritis through my whole body including my spine, plus other bone abnormalities. I have had chronic pain since I was 12 (18 yrs ago). Doctors have never taken my pain seriously until recently when I was properly diagnosed. I am now on Endep, Lyrica and Gabapentin which together helps with all my nerve pain. But even strong pain killers didn't help with my joint and back inflammation.
Avatar n tn Did the anxiety start while you were on the prednisone or after you stopped? Corticosteroids cause anxiety as one of the most common side effects, as they are basically a form of cortisol, the stress hormone. It's possible the problem is the cortisone itself, and not withdrawal from it, that is the problem, though I'm not sure about withdrawal from this drug.
Avatar n tn I've noticed that after 3 months of daily prednisone that I have developed hair on my upper lip and jaw line. Has anyone else experienced side effects like this? I don't see how it will go away on it's own. How do you treat unwanted facial hair? This is quite upsetting to me. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Corticosteroid medications such as prednisone do have many possible side effects. Increased heart rate, sweating and nervousness are fairly common with these medications. Other common side effects include difficulty sleeping, vertigo, increased appetite, indigestion, and mood changes. The prednisone should be out of your system a couple of days after your last dose. You should consult your physician as soon as possible if you are still experiencing these symptoms.
446896 tn?1237802742 I usually have anxiety, but the last 14 days I have had unbelievable restlessness, panic, insomnia, severe heart palpitations/tachycardia, face swelling, etc. I have spoken to my nurse and two pharmacists who say that these are indeed side effects of prednisone, and that they should get better once I stop the medication. However, I have heard from others that these side effects sometimes persist after the medication is stopped.
Avatar f tn Did you taper off the vibryd or quit abruptly? You can't just switch from one medication to another even in the same class and avoid withdrawal -- these meds are not easy to stop taking and it must be done carefully. Unless you completely stop taking a medication before starting another it's impossible to tell if your symptoms are a sign you're suffering withdrawal and quit too quickly or are side effects of the new medication.
Avatar f tn It isn't necessary to taper after such a short period of usage. Tapering is only needed if you've been on prednisone for several weeks: https://www.verywellhealth.com/does-prednisone-tapering-minimize-withdrawal-190242 There are loads of meds on the market for psoriasis, for long-term management. If you start to see it return, consult your doc ASAP and get on a treatment intended for longer-term use.
Avatar f tn Prednisone is a very, very powerful drug, so good and bad side effects. It shuts down your own adrenal system at anything over 5-7 mg a day I believe it is, so a whole bunch of psychiatric side effects are possible. Myself I was revved up, lots of energy, very out of it though and then horrible anxiety when they tried to taper me off - really painful. So welcome to the loonie club and we can all support each other....
2048234 tn?1330814100 If you are on it for an extended period of time it can cause some withdrawal symptoms just like any other steroid. My wife was on it for over a month and she had no side effects when she stopped taking it. Take it for a week to treat the pneumonia. You'll be fine.
Avatar n tn There is no better, faster, easier way to withdrawal by replacing one drug that has side effects with another drug with side effects. I suggest that you thoroughly read everything there is to know about the steroid you're talking about, before talking to a doctor.
Avatar f tn was red and flushed only on head neck and face.....nowhere else......was told prednisone side effect....but being riddled with panic disorder I checked latuda site......rare but deadly side effect called nms...neuropaletic malignant syndrome.....symptoms are. Avatar m tn She told me that she had taken the steroid 3 different times for life or death situations and saved her life every time but left her with this crazy side effects. She told me every time she took it, the side effects left her within 32 days exactly but for me it didn't go away for months, and I sometimes still feel weird like the side effects but my aunt said this could just be stress or my mind playing tricks but either way I don't like it.
