Avatar f tn Hi, as far the present symptoms are concerend, probably they are due to prednisone only. Verapamil is the drug given in prophylaxis of migraine but it can not abort the attack once it get started. May be you need to taper the dose of prednisone as this drug is never withdrawn instantly. Do consult doctor for side effects.
Avatar m tn I checked with my Nephrologist and she states that it will take a little while for my body to adjust to the medicine. Is anyone else having these side effects, and if so, how long did it take for your body to adjust to the medicine?
1523893 tn?1301579774 Actually, 25 tablets of 50mg Prednisone = 1250mg total per day That is the equivalent of one and a quarter grams per day since 1000mg=1 Gm We don't usually see the docs using pills rather than an IV for short term, large dose steroid treatment of MS exacerbations but it does happen. Many people here have mentioned feeling worse before they get symptom improvement with steroid treatment. Sumana is right that Prednisone will cause fluid retention.
Avatar f tn I am also diabetic @ bood sugars are higher than usual is this a side effect of prednisone, have 3 more days on prednisone should I stop?
Avatar f tn Hi, had it been only facial sweeling, one could have thought of prednisone but swelling associated with pain and tingling is rightly suggestive of verapamil side effects. Your symptoms will phase down in 5-6 days by itself as drug will at least take this much time to wash out of your body. You won't achieve much visiting ER, best is to wait for 5-6 days.
Avatar f tn I agree with you - I also hate prednisone!! It does work wonders for many things, but it sure does have a lot of nasty side effects too. I've been on it many, many times in my lifetime and quite often at very high doses - my highest being 120 mg daily (yes, I did say 120!!). I hope the decrease you made was under the guidance of your doctor.
Avatar n tn Those sound like normal side effects of prednisone. Nasty drug but can save a dog's life. My golden has been taking 50mg daily for 2 months and the side effects are horrible.
Avatar f tn But i did a bit of research about prednisones online and there are so many side effects including swelling! I had an allergic reaction and my face swelled up a little and my lips was swollen, but by taking this medicine, will i swell up again? Isn't it supposed to help get rid of everything related to allergy? I'm better now but my face is sooo dry after i had that allergic reaction and nothing's helping. Not my Aqueous cream, lora-tabs or prednisone.
Avatar m tn Also, is taking 10 mg of the prednisone for 7 weeks considered taking it long term and high dosage and could it cause permanent side effects like the ones I have? Or are these related to the hypothyroid? I thought all the symptoms would go away with time but it doesn't get any better. Could these be a symptoms of the cushing syndrom? Look forward to hearing from you.
Avatar f tn Prednisone can have serious long-lasting, or even permanent, side effects, Normally the first line of defense is a simple anti-histamine which has no lasting side effects. Ultimately you can get ride of your allergies.
Avatar n tn I've noticed that after 3 months of daily prednisone that I have developed hair on my upper lip and jaw line. Has anyone else experienced side effects like this? I don't see how it will go away on it's own. How do you treat unwanted facial hair? This is quite upsetting to me. Thanks!
Avatar m tn Please check the side effects of prednisone, which can be very serious. For me they were dreadful.
Avatar m tn If you have been using the medications for sometime and these are the only side effects, the possibility of other side effects is hot high; though the possibility cannot be excluded. Hope this information helps. Take care!
699217 tn?1323438700 For me prednisone was both a lifesaver and the devil drug. I have Crohn's disease and if it were't for the pred I probably would have lost a good portion of my colon. Then I became prednisone dependant and every time I would try to wean down I got so sick-once my adrenals crashed and I ended up in the hospital for 2 weeks. I was never on a very high dose-maybe 40 to begin with and then tapered down.
446896 tn?1237802742 I usually have anxiety, but the last 14 days I have had unbelievable restlessness, panic, insomnia, severe heart palpitations/tachycardia, face swelling, etc. I have spoken to my nurse and two pharmacists who say that these are indeed side effects of prednisone, and that they should get better once I stop the medication. However, I have heard from others that these side effects sometimes persist after the medication is stopped.
Avatar m tn I have tried elidel, protopic, tons of steroid creams, oitments, doxycycline, PUVA, epicream, prednisone and steroid injections. The only things that work are the injections and prednisone, but the immidiate side effects of prednisone are too much (face swelling ect...). Is there anything else I can do?!!?!?
Avatar f tn Prednisone is a very, very powerful drug, so good and bad side effects. It shuts down your own adrenal system at anything over 5-7 mg a day I believe it is, so a whole bunch of psychiatric side effects are possible. Myself I was revved up, lots of energy, very out of it though and then horrible anxiety when they tried to taper me off - really painful. So welcome to the loonie club and we can all support each other....
