Unfortunately, there's no way to completely avoid weight gain or moon face as a side effect from prednisone. They are both known, common side effects and many people who have to take prednisone get them. I know about them first hand - I've had to be on prednisone quite often and often at VERY high doses, and I always get the moon face and weight gain with it, even if my eating/exercise habits don't change a bit.

I have vasculitis and was in the hospital on 150 mg IV Solumedrol for 1 week and have been on 80mg a day since Oct. 6th. I have the abd bloating, moon face and hump neck and shoulders. I know it is the side effects but was wondering if anyone has any ideas for relief of it. My back hurts as well I do use a heating pad on it and sometimes it helps but the neck, shoulders, and stomach are so uncomfortable. Does anyone do anything that helps with this?

I agree with you - I also hate prednisone!! It does work wonders for many things, but it sure does have a lot of nasty side effects too. I've been on it many, many times in my lifetime and quite often at very high doses - my highest being 120 mg daily (yes, I did say 120!!). I hope the decrease you made was under the guidance of your doctor.

I suggest you read up on the side effects really good. Not everyone has the same effects. I did not gain weight but it caused me a lot of anxiety which made me think something was wrong with me. The prednisone made me feel great, took away the pain, started to shrink my mass. I was on it for about 6 weeks all together but as soon as I started tapering off, abscesses started again.

I had taken it wayyyy back when i was having surgery on my left elbow, but it was a way stronger dose and it made me have the moon face, swollen ankles and i hated it. I cannot even tell im taking this now. I just want to hear some stories about this drug.

Systemic steroids like prednisone work in the same way as natural cortisol and as a side effect can cause a moon face. Redistribution of body fat results in moon face. But, once you are tapered of steroids, this symptom should resolve. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Ive now been put up to 60mg for 2 weeks and my face as already started to go moon face ! It is making me so down ! I've always been bothered by my weight and now I look like someone else ! Ive been reading posts and didn't relise that moon face could come on that quick ! I'm also worrierd by the amount of peolple that have said that onve they start to lower the does their flare ups come back !

moon face, high blood pressure, profuse sweating, irratibility, inability to deal with stress, and that is not including the side effects I get to look forward to in the next 10-15 years. I hate it so much that I have started weaning myself off of it with out my Dr's guidance. I just can't take it anymore! The imuran was working really well but they had to suspend it for a while because of adverse effects.

Ive taken it before for asthma issues when I was young but dont recall any side effects either. I believe its a steroid and have heard it should be avoided for long term use. I would suggest talking to your doctor... It may be the benefit outweighs the side effects. Best of luck and hang in there..

m taking 10mg two times per day for two days then one time per day for two days. Will I have moon face or other side effects when taking this drug short term? I am nervous, I started tonight. I just want to feel better and like myself again.

My guess is that what you're experiencing IS from teh prednisone and should dissipate in a few days. I've been on prednisone quite often in my life and I also experience the same thing sometimes - my face will get beet red, feel hot to the touch (but I'm not running a fever) and will feel tight and dry.

I have seen several people I know that were on high doses of prednisone for a life threatening illness. Weight gain, water retention, and moon face are the side effects. Hmmm, sounds just like hypo? 20 some years ago, I got kenalog (corticosteroid) shots for hay fever. I gained 30 stinking pounds in 60 days! My Dr. said he had never heard of this. Maybe I was just hungry? My little sis gets kenalog shots all the time and she is 99 lbs. It doesn't effect her weight at all.

was red and flushed only on head neck and face.....nowhere else......was told prednisone side effect....but being riddled with panic disorder I checked latuda site......rare but deadly side effect called nms...neuropaletic malignant syndrome.....symptoms are. Had to have a hip replacement due to avascular necrosis caused by steroidal treatment. Also side effects like becoming hypomanic, moon face, osteoporosis, etc. I basically have a love-hate relationship with steroids. Love because it works; hate because the side effects suck.

The symptoms you are experiencing I believe totally are related to the prednisone and its side effects. Some of them are secondary side effects, i.e., increased blood glucose will cause increased thirst and urination, as well as vision changes. Everything I know about prednisone is that at about 5mg IS where your own adrenals SHOULD kick in and take over, however, I think we both know that what they SHOULD do and what they actually do are two very different things.

I am also diabetic @ bood sugars are higher than usual is this a side effect of prednisone,have 3 more days on prednisone should I stop?
