Avatar n tn I've noticed that after 3 months of daily prednisone that I have developed hair on my upper lip and jaw line. Has anyone else experienced side effects like this? I don't see how it will go away on it's own. How do you treat unwanted facial hair? This is quite upsetting to me. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I took a one time dose of 40 mg of prednisone along with albuterol this past weekend due to being in an asthma attack, and Iam still experiencing side effects from the prednisone. How long does a one time dose of prednisone stay in your system, and how long can the side effects last?
1580703 tn?1651904887 First, I will assume that all other asthma medication has failed and that is why you and your doctor have had to resort to prednisone, 10 mg/day. If that is not the case, then attempts to control your asthma with (first) medium-high doses of an inhaled steroid. Persons exhibit varying degrees of sensitivity to oral doses of prednisone, so that is very possible, maybe even likely, that you will experience the side effects you have listed below.
Avatar f tn Some of the uses of prednisone include treating autoimmune disorders, skin diseases, disorders of the endocrine system, exacerbations of multiple sclerosis, respiratory diseases (such as acute asthma exacerbation) and rheumatoid arthritis. Prednisone has many different side effects associated with its use.
Avatar f tn I told my doctor he was also surprised , and said if you feel better so you should try but this is nat medical treatment , this natural treatmants if you will nat feel better by salt so remember there is no side effects also , like prednisone and slow action steroid drugs have serious side effecte so you also can try these , you don't have to leave your medication and you don't have to change your medical inhaler to salt inhaler, but at the side you can practice this, it will give you b
1154802 tn?1266485720 Long-term use of prednisone or inhaled steroid does have serious side effects. It wrecks your adrenals, worsens your asthma, harms your eyes and, in my case, caused frightening choking. I don't use that junk anymore and take natural anti-inflammatories instead. No side effects to those. Check the new FDA warnings involving these poisons.
Avatar f tn m no doctor but when I started taking all this stuff for asthma and all those side effects were listed I look up the things that could cause them. You might have your daughter checked for Chung-Strauss Syndrome. You can look up the info. at http://vasculitis.med.jhu.edu/typesof/churgstrauss.html. I hope she feels better soon. My prayers are with her.
1125622 tn?1295420118 Using prednisone for under a month will not result in long term side effects. However being on multiple prednisone treatments through out the year is additive and you could experience more serious side effects. Ideally for asthma you shouldn't require more then 1 or 2 prednisone (14 -16 days) treatments per year for asthma exacerbations. If you require more it is an indicator that your asthma is out of control.
Avatar n tn s muzzle. Prednisone does work great, but the side effects can be very bad-diabetes and a suppressed immune system which will make kitty more vulnerable to infections. I personally use an INHALED steroid which are much less likely to cause those problems-I'm not sure if these are available to cats or not. I'd definitely ask the vet about that-it would control your kitty's symptoms and make him/her a much happier kitty!
Avatar f tn I took it for my asthma for only 3 days though.
Avatar m tn Magnesium supplements in particular will help. Use magnesium gluconate, which a very effective form, though a bit more expensive. Talk with your doctor about the short term use of prednisone. I am very against excessive use of prednisone, which has very serious side effects, however when the lungs get "twitchy" oral prednisone for several days, with a taper may the only thing to "settle them down". Ask your doctor about a few tablets for use in an emergency.
Avatar n tn Theophylline is used when inhaled steroids is not enough and the physician wants to avoid prescribing oral steroids (ex. Prednisone), which has terrible side effects over the long term. I can understand your doctor's hesitancy to prescribe this particular drug to you, when there are many better alternatives. Also with any drug there are initial side effects that do disappear over time with use.
Avatar m tn Obviously, you want to be on the prednisone for as short a time as possible to avoid long term side effects. However, NOT being on it is sometimes not an option. Everyone is different and can/will react to medications differently - and the side effects that one person experiences may not affect someone else with the same medication and dosage. So, unfortunately, it' simpossible for someone to tell you how long you can be on th eprednisone before side effects starting taking their toll.
1580703 tn?1651904887 what disease have you been diagnosed with that calls for the prednisone? Do you know the side effects of that medication? Side effects from prednisone can include increased thirst and urination, increased appetite and weight gain, dull, dry haircoat, increased panting, vomiting, diarrhea, elevated liver enzymes, pancreatitis, muscle wasting and behavior changes ( depression, lethargy). Source: www.cloudnet.com Prednisone mainly acts to speed up the aging process of the body.
Avatar f tn Doctors prescribe prednisone pretty freely without thought to its serious side effects. It caused me lots of problems that took years to rectify.
Avatar m tn Hmmm.. does your father see an asthma, or pulminary-lung doctor? Prednisone has awful side effects when youre on it for as long as he's been-bone loss, etc... as my father has taken prednisone in the past and he too is asthmatic, as I am also. Steroid inhalers work wonders (Advair, Symbicort just to name a couple),, and my father is 62 also, and he has been doing a breathing treatment daily for years and years..
608104 tn?1352587153 m coping with the side effects of the prednisone including agitation, mood swings, greater distractibility, disorganization, incredible appetite increases, and gastritis. Yesterday and today I decreased the prednisone to 5 mg but can feel slight fireworks lighting up my brain, as I carefully wean this old body away from the predisone. I see the clinical psychologist next week for disorganization and decluttering monitoring.
975514 tn?1324997938 I take prednisone for asthma at times..Also was on it for Bells Palsy, No i haven t had problems coming off it..I am Hashi/Hypothyroid..
Avatar m tn So could taking the Prednisone affect her FT4? And does anyone know if the side effects of the Prednisone are hot, increased appitite and insomnia? Which all just happen to correspond with being Hyper! My wife was "happy" with the lowering of the FT4 levels because the Dr only upped her T4 the last time kind of to satisfy my wife.
Avatar f tn I am also diabetic @ bood sugars are higher than usual is this a side effect of prednisone, have 3 more days on prednisone should I stop?
10947 tn?1281404252 In a word: Powerless! ...especially since I'd never had it before. The VERY productive cough makes me feel sickly and scared all the time. The inhaler doesn't really work all that well. The side effects mean I can't take Prednisone. The wheezing and gurgling in my chest is loud and embarrassing and keeps me awake at night listening to it. The only good thing is that I've never had an asthma attack.
874521 tn?1424116797 Prednisone in any form tends to precipitate aggressive verbal behavior. Your analysis of the situation is right-on-the-money. This is not a rare reaction at all. The reasons are complex. Way back when there were sabre-tooth tigers wandering around, an injured animal had little in the way of defending itself except "aggressive verbal vehavior".
Avatar n tn My son had a very hard time adjusting to a small amount of hydrocortisone, so it is probably the prednisone causing your symptoms. Prednisone definitely affects your adrenal and thyroid function. I have read of people having panic attacks for the first time after starting corticosteroids. Perhaps you should be started at a lower dose. Also, be aware that prednisone, and other steroids deplete your body of potassium, Vitamin C, B6, and zinc. You may need to supplement these things.
